Part 3 - ‘Raas na aaya rehna door. Kya keeje?’
A frantic call is made to Dr. Barve. Aniket, Sai run to Virat’s room.
Aai - “Bagha na Doctor. Virat ne aankhe kholi thi thodi der pehle”
Dr. Barve - “That's a good sign. He may be drifting in and out of it but something has worked. Nurse, keep a tab on him and Dr. Aniket, keep checking up on him. This can be a good learning experience for you.”
Sai who had dreaded the worst when the call first came in is relieved to say the least. She is intently watching Virat unaware that for the first time since he came here in this state, she has smiled.
“Dekha, you are still in that category.”
“What category?”
“The loved ones category… vo tera hi dupatta hai na?”
“Hmm…”
“And you still think you shouldn't talk to him? Remember, what Dr. Barve has told us… the patient is the priority. Kya soch rahi hai?”
“Yahi.. ki Pakhi didi ko kya hua? Unhone aisa kaise kiya?”
“Jo bhi socha ho… farak to pada na?”
Aai (smiling and crying) talks to Aniket - “Pata hai Doctor, ye Virat ki Biwi ka dupatta hai. Divorce ho gaya to vo ise chod ke chali gai. Bichara mera bacchha chupsa ho gaya hai. Bahar se normal hone ka bahot dikhawa karta hai lekin raat bhar uski yaad main rota hai. Bahot pyar karta hai usse. Vo bhi bahot pyar karti hai isse. Lekin kabhi bol hi nai paaye ek dusre ko. Aaj dekhiye bina kahe, bina mile usne phir se apna kamal dikha diya. Mera Godu ab thik ho jayega. Mujhe pura bharosa hai.”
In a few days, Virat is slowly showing signs of improvement with frequent eye movement. He is responding to the visitors and questions from the Doctors.
On one of the rounds,
Dr. Barve - “How are you feeling today Mr. Chavan? We need to check your motor movements? Can you wiggle your toes and fingers?”
Virat does so.
Dr. Barve, happy with the result, gestures to Sai - “Doctor, this is your area of interest right? Come on up. We need to bend and check the legs and hands.”
Sai is shocked to say the least. She was trying hard to stay away but couldnt and now she has to touch him in front of everyone. And to top it all, Mohit and Shivani bua are here today.
Sai moves towards the far end of the bed, sees Virat intently looking at her.
After a moment of hesitation, she gingerly touches his leg and very softly tries to bend it at the knees. Glad that she is wearing gloves, otherwise her clammy hands would give her away.
Virat winces as soon as she touches him.
What no one realises is that the pain is more emotional rather than physical. It's her. It's his Sai.
"Sai" .. a barely perceptible whisper escapes his mouth.
She knows that he knows!!!!
Dr. Barve notices his pain and motions her to put his leg down gently.
Dr. Barve - “I understand Mr. Chavan that this might be painful at first. But since you are showing improvement, we can keep on progressing. One day at a time. Take care.”
Virat nods at Dr. Barve and continues looking towards Sai, who has moved to the back quietly, to avoid his piercing gaze.
As the Doctors move away, Mohit is quick to move out of the room and gently holds Sai’s arm and pulls her away from her group.
Mohit - “Ye aap hi hai na Sai Vahini?”
Sai with her back towards Mohit is fighting hard to control her emotions and keeps looking down at her feet.
Mohit moves and stands in front of her.
“Main samajh gaya tha, Dada ko vapas laane main aapka hi koi role hai”
Sai, still looking at her feet and avoiding Mohit’s gaze, is shaking.
“Kya Vahini, chota bhai mana tha na mujhe? Mujhse bhi nai baat karengi?”
Sai still looking down and avoiding eye contact
"Nahi Mohit. Aap jao yaha se. Main nai mil sakti aap sabse."
"Lekin kyun Vahini?"
"Aap jaante nai kya Mohit? Main aur tumhare Dada... we are… we are Divorced."
“Aur unhe bilkul nai pata chalna chahiye ki main yaha hun, please, for his sake”
