Yes, whoever is holding the murti, their spouse/children washes their feet and applies tilak on their forehead. It is in the maharashtrian culture

Yeah, during navratri, maharashtrian(other culture as well) people here call young girls to their home and do their aarti and wash their feet, considering them to be devi.

I personally, didn't find anything wrong in Sai performing the ritual. It is nothing to be looked down upon😊

Yeah me too... They say for that moment the person carrying Bappa denotes Bappa...

Yes, I'm not a Maharashtrian by birth but I have lived in Mumbai all my life & have seen some of these rituals.

Some Maharashtrians also keep Gauri from the 5/7th day of Ganpati & they have some seperate rituals for people coming from various regions within Maharashtra.

And washing feet as far as I know is gender neutral, had Sai gotten the Ganpati/Gauri someone would have washed her feet as well. These things differ from family to family & custom to custom!

Since I have seen this around here I felt the scene was pretty normal pertaining to the culture they are trying to represent. I don't know what subsect of Maharashtrians the CN people are though but did not feel purposely inserted!

Exactly ...I am not sure how it suddenly became a patriarchy issue...on other SM sites.. In many cultures feet of the girls are washed by both men and women during Durga Puja..

I didn't find the scene forcefully inserted. I am not Maharashtrian but we get Ganpati at home every year. We don't wash the person's feet. We do welcome arti and distribute sweets. However I do believe some sections of Maharashtrian families may do so. Even the way Ganpati murti was brought was correct. It is always coveted with a nice cloth. I did not find Virat dancing as awkward at all. Yes, he is upset but that doesn't mean he will sit witj a long face especially when he is bringing Ganpati home. In Mumbai, Ganesh Chaturthi is an emotion. Bappa be it big or small is brought home with a lot of love, merriment and festive fervour. 😊
