She agreed to marry Sam in order to stay close to Virat, but why? Why did she want to stay close to Virat as a married woman who has feelings ror him???? Only to be friends with him? Logical answer would be EMA, but then when Virat got married to Sai, she was taken aback and she did maintain a certain distance from Sai and Virat. She wasn't taunting and all directly from the beginning infact she even told Sai that both of them would be a normal couple in the future, she was even 'helping' Sai. I'm not too sure what to make out of that behaviour. She may somewhat have accepted the truth here that she could have never been Virat's or maybe it was just plain jealousy speaking and to be in the good books of Virat.
Then suddenly she started taunting Sai, and I belief that it's partly Virat's mistake as he gave her too much leeway to interfere in his and Sai's relationship (out of guilt for Didi). Some hope in her may have been rekindled(or it was already there but that hope grew stronger) but at the same time she grew jealous because she may have interpreted Virat's behaviour as in that's he's still stuck in past (whereas he was only feeling extremely guilty for her) but at the same time she'd see his contradicting behaviour with Sai, how he looks at her, cares for her and she's grown blind in jealousy. Isn't it at times that when we want something and we don't get it, we want it harder? I think that might be Didi's situation.
Another reason for her being so jealous with Sai might be that because of her she lost all bachi kuchi umeed of having a relation of' friendship' with Virat. Virat fell in love with Sai, and she lost all chances. If Virat hadn't been so 'soft' with her, situations might be different but that's his character arc after all.
One other thing I'm not too sure of, is she really a 'susheel bahu' at heart or is all that drama to be in good books of the elders? I've always thought that it was fake, but continuing such a drama for 1 year, idk that feels so surreal. How can an ambitious, happy-go-lucky, azaad, independent, educated girl be so indifferent, so accepting of her situation. Is it because she was too broken because she didn't get Virat? But they barely knew each other for a few hours, she had spent more time with Samrat already that she had with Virat at her wedding. I've never been in love (yet) , so I don't know how it works but you can't be so devastated for a man you barely knew that you're willing to ruin your whole life. I think she's just wanted to be in Chavan's good book, Samrat's missing was sone pe suhaaga for her. She'd probably leave after 5 years or she'd be separated from Veeru and then she'd have all the liberty. Yes according to me she's wanted an EMA all along.
She was supposed to be a layered, complex character like Sai and Virat. Such roles are extremely difficult to pull off, but when the actor is not convincing enough it comes out as clownery and irrational stupid behavior and especially when the character isn't well written. Kuddos to Neilsha to not only nail a complex, layered character but also elevate a shoddily written screenplay.
I'm not a Didi fan, infact I've never hated, despised a character more than hers, but I definitely tried sympathising with her in the beginning, which I was able to do, but not for too long.
