The Irony of Nanaad holding and reading a book that portrays 2 strong women who fought through so many adversities and hardships against a society that strongly adheres to male dominance. A book that tells the story of a man who died at the hands of his prey. The 2 female characters suffered domestic abuse from a man they both were married to due to their uncanny circumstances, but ultimately persevered as one woman sacrificed her freedom for the liberty of the other. Now that they referenced to this book, I can get a glimpse of Ashwini's backstory of how she might have been forced into this marriage with Ninaad. She is the girl portraying Mariam who endured years of pain and suffering from her ferocious husband who looked religious and righteous on the outside, but dark and vulgar on the inside. That girl only got her glimpse of hope and an unbroken bond of friendship when an orphan girl like Laila entered her life just like Sai did in Ashwini's life. She found a voice and a reason to fight for. She didn't want Laila to go through what she went through. Her love for Laila was so strong and powerful that she ultimately killed her predator to set Laila free.
I am so happy that they referenced this book because now I can see the dynamics of Ashwini, Ninaad, and Sai from a different perspective. I remember when I read this book is middle school, I shed so many tears for Mariam when she found a purpose in her life even though that meant she was gonna lose her own life to the Taliban. I was so happy the entire episode until I saw the book in Ninaad's hand. He is a mirror image of Rashid. I hope he gets the same end as Rashid ( not death, but like some kind of humiliation).
