Jiva Shiva connection

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the little off track topic as it has no connection to the ongoing track. But I have just started watching the show from the start and watching the earlier episode I got to know that Samrat and Virat call each other Shiva and Jiva. So being a Maharashtrian, these names instantly struck the historic event from the life of Shivaji Maharaj in my mind, and I wondered if there is something similar in the past of Virat and Samrat?

I am not sure if anyone here knows that famous historic event of Shivaji Maharaj here, so I will give a brief account of the story.

Basically, there was an Adilshahi Subedaar named Afzal khan who was sent to capture Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and break his control over the Maval region in Pune Maharashtra. So during his march towards Pratapgadh Pune, Afzal Khan destroyed many temples and idols. He intended to trigger Shivaji Maharaj by doing this and have an open war with him. But Shivaji Maharaj knew that Afzal Khan's army was more in number to his. Hence he sent Afzal Khan a message that he wants truce. They decided to meet at a place unarmed for the discussing the conditions of truce and that only 10 bodyguards were allowed who will be standing outside the Shamiana (big tent) during the meeting.

But Shivaji Maharaj knew that Afzal Khan was cunning and insidious and hence he had tactfully hidden tiger claws inside his clothes and wore armour under his clothes. When they met Afzal Khan called Maharaj for a hug and while he hugged Shivaji Maharaj he attacked him with a small katar (knife) but Shivaji Maharaj got saved because of his armor. Sensing his betrayal Shivaji Maharaj took out the tiger claws and attacked Afzal Khan in the stomach. After this Afzal Khan called his guards in and in response Shivaji Maharaj's guards also came inside to fight. Watching Afzal injured his guard Sayyad Banda attacked Shivaji from behind but Shivaji Maharaj's bodyguard Jivaji Mahala (Jiva Mahala) took the blow on himself to save Shivaji.

Well ultimately Shivaji Maharaj won the fight and killed Afzal Khan. But after this incident he said, and which became a very popular saying in Marathi "Hota Jiva mhanun vachla Shiva", which means Shiva survived because Jiva was there.

So watching these two call each other Jiva and Shiva I wonder if something like this happened in their past or in childhood where Samrat saved Virat from something fatal!?

And you're absolutely right- Samrat did save Virat when they were kids from falling from a height during a festival.

I have just started watching the earlier episodes and I am actually watching those in fast forward mode just to get a catch of the story and specifically the Sai and Sairat scenes... So I might have missed this info 😅

Whenever Samrat returns to the show, I hope they do focus on the relationship between the two brothers. I loveee a good bromance!!

I'm not indian and even I remembered that from a historical serial. I wonder if that's why makers gave virat the shiva pet name and called his female lead as sai?

Yeah and now remembering that shiva ji fave wife was sai makes the shiva name that samrat calls virat even more meaningful

But Please can anybody tell what was Jeeva's wife name ?
