Yes I don't think that such drama over the 5th suhagan would be for nothing. Either it will be exteme insult for Usha ( but it has already happened) or it could be connected to Devyani because Sai even asked about her today. May be they want to bring in Mitali Nag finally.

Also, I think it is while removing this kankan that Ashwini will see Sai's slashed wrist, which is otherwise hidden under the bangles

They showed Tond dhune a bit differently due to the circumstances. It is actually the bride mother who gives a sari and pearl jewellery to the groom's mother along with a tea-set and the groom's mother gives the saree and jewellery to the bride.

They also did the 'Vyahi bhet', where traditionally it is the bride's father, who gives a gift made of silver to the groom's father. With Aaba not around and Virat's father non existent in the ceremonies, Usha maushi giving the silver coin to Virat on behalf of Aaba is symbolic (I couldn't help notice the red nail paint on the hand handing over the coin to Virat 😄) they didn't explain it much but just thought I could share the connection.

Coming to the Precap. It is an indication that the next ceremony will be Halad Utaravane: the untying of the turmeric root thread that both Sai and Virat are wearing since the wedding. It is done by five suvasinis, in the same way as halad chadhavane (haldi lagana) but in the reverse order. This ceremony basically signifies that now the newlyweds can be on their own and even step out of the house. So the groom's mother, in this case Ashwini will untie the kankan - halkund from their wrists after 5 married women relatives perform the halad utaravane.

Since the family is Maratha, the reception will be a dinner called 'Tikhati Mejwani', where the non-vegetarian feast is organised for close relatives as per traditions.

My question is: who is the fifth suhagan/suvasini??

I counted Ashwini, Sonali, Karishma and PP. Who's the fifth married woman in Chavan household - Shivani is divorced?! Or is she only estranged from her husband? Or is it Devyani? Or Usha? Very curious.

Waise, i think eventually Sai will get taunted for not cooking the family's dishes if they want to delve into the veg non veg thing (Although i highly doubt). I just hope she doesnt force herself to cook non veg for them. The only other way that she could be a non-veg marathi brahmin is if she is a CKP brahmin. But then Joshis are not CKPs. We are discussing this very important question of eating habits but I don't think the writers are delving much into it. If you think, food forms a very important part of adjustment though, especially in marriages. And with the caste factor such a big issue in the Chavan household, i hope they show this as well.

CKP stands for Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu. Just like the 96 Shahannav Kuli Maratha is a warrior clan of the Kshatriyas, Prabhu communities are the intellectual Brahmins. There are four sub-castes under the Prabhu clan of Marathi caste system (all are at par) and CKP is one of them. CKP Brahmins are generally coastal inhabitants of Konkan and Western Maharashtra. So they are non vegetarians and seafood eaters. There are ckp food festivals held in many places in India because they are known for their non vegetarian cuisine. It's the only brahmin clan in Marathis that has non-vegetarian food habit. 😊 But Sai is a Joshi as per the show and she cannot be a CKP as Joshi is not a CKP surname.

So the 5th suhagan is neighborhood Savitri aunty. Nice thing they brought in a non-family member to complete ritual. Now Kaku gang will be very careful because Virat's marriage thing has crossed the boundaries out of that house.
