Precap: Who is the Fifth suhagan in Chavan niwas?

So with the "Next day" ceremonies of the marriage, taking place, the Tond Dhune and Vyahi Bhet is over.

They showed Tond dhune a bit differently due to the circumstances. It is actually the bride mother who gives a sari and pearl jewellery to the groom's mother along with a tea-set and the groom's mother gives the saree and jewellery to the bride.

They also did the 'Vyahi bhet', where traditionally it is the bride's father, who gives a gift made of silver to the groom's father. With Aaba not around and Virat's father non existent in the ceremonies, Usha maushi giving the silver coin to Virat on behalf of Aaba is symbolic (I couldn't help notice the red nail paint on the hand handing over the coin to Virat 😄) they didn't explain it much but just thought I could share the connection.

Coming to the Precap. It is an indication that the next ceremony will be Halad Utaravane: the untying of the turmeric root thread that both Sai and Virat are wearing since the wedding. It is done by five suvasinis, in the same way as halad chadhavane (haldi lagana) but in the reverse order. This ceremony basically signifies that now the newlyweds can be on their own and even step out of the house. So the groom's mother, in this case Ashwini will untie the kankan - halkund from their wrists after 5 married women relatives perform the halad utaravane.

Since the family is Maratha, the reception will be a dinner called 'Tikhati Mejwani', where the non-vegetarian feast is organised for close relatives as per traditions.

My question is: who is the fifth suhagan/suvasini??

I counted Ashwini, Sonali, Karishma and PP. Who's the fifth married woman in Chavan household - Shivani is divorced?! Or is she only estranged from her husband? Or is it Devyani? Or Usha? Very curious.

I think it will be Usha mavashi. She does wear a Magalsutra but we do not know her backstory (whereabouts of her husband)

In SBS segment @3:10, there is another women, may be some relative.

I have a feeling that it might be Usha maushi. Let's see.

I don't think the 5th suhagan is Devyani because in today's episode she said her marriage was about to happen but the groom disappeared on the wedding day so she isn't married yet?

But can Usha maushi be a part of the ritual because she is from the bride's side? I think post wedding rituals are done by married women on groom's side.

I have no idea about Shivani. Is she single or divorced?

Yes that's what I also thought...

But can Usha maushi be a part of the ritual because she is from the bride's side? I think post wedding rituals are done by married women on groom's side.

Since they are anyway just doing namesake rasam, i guess it will be Usha... although some Maharashtrian widows do wear mangalsutras. But she also wears the few green glass bangles, which widows don't wear.

Waise, i think eventually Sai will get taunted for not cooking the family's dishes if they want to delve into the veg non veg thing (Although i highly doubt). I just hope she doesnt force herself to cook non veg for them. The only other way that she could be a non-veg marathi brahmin is if she is a CKP brahmin. But then Joshis are not CKPs. We are discussing this very important question of eating habits but I don't think the writers are delving much into it. If you think, food forms a very important part of adjustment though, especially in marriages. And with the caste factor such a big issue in the Chavan household, i hope they show this as well.

May be Devyani got secretly married to her boy friend but was forced into marrying another guy by Bhavani. The wedding party might have left after knowing the truth.

I somehow feel the 5th suhagan thing has something to do with Bhavani or her close relation (here daughter) because it was she who pointed it out. 😆
