But that's the thing...changes to the side characters and stories don't really affect the main story. They should bring something new to the main story, add something special to set it apart from the original. But then again, if they might just end up spoiling it considering what they have come up until so far. It would take some gentle maneuvering and careful planning to introduce a change that they can carry forward in a convincing manner. It might be a big gamble that they would not like to take.
