PART 14

Yuvraj snuck downstairs so no one would see him. He came down the
stairs and turned to shut the door. He walked down the hallway towards
Saraswati's room and lightly tapped on the door. Yuvraj saw that the door
was locked from the ouside and unlocked it and went in. Saraswati was
lying on her bed with her face on the pillows. Yuvraj sat down beside her.
"Di, I am so sorry..sab mere vaja se hua hai." Saraswati sat up and wiped
her eyes.
"Nahin Yuvraj..mujhe kuch kehna nahin chaye tha. Or Laxmi bhi. Yuvraj I
just can't wait to leave all this. Main aapko bata bhi nahin sakti key
mujhe uss din ka kitna intezaar hain jab main yahan sey chali jaoongi."
"Kahan jaoogi?"
"Bhavishya key ghar...shaadi karke maine to vaheen jana hai...yeh sab
chorke."
"Kyun? Matlab vahan par itna acha kyun hoga?"
"Yuvraj ....wahan par mujhe pyaar milega...attention milega..khushiyan
milengi.I just want to escape!"
"Humain miss nahin karogi?"
"Of course Yuvraj aapko miss karoongi...par milne aaongi.Or aap bhi
mujhse nilne aana."
"Chalo Di aap sojao ..main Laxmi sey milkar aata hoon."
Yuvraj walked down the hall to Laxmi's room. He unlocked the door and
peeked in. Laxmi was fast asleep. Yuvraj walked in and saw that she had
tears on her face. He wiped them away and put a blanket on her. He got
up and tured off the light. As he walked to his room he saw the light in
the corner room on the main floor on. He quietly walked down the stairs
and saw Savitri come out wiping her eyes. She locked the door and
walked into the kitchen.
"Uss kamre mein kya hai..jo is waqt bari maa ko wahan par jaana para."
He turned and walked back up the stairs confused.

The next morning Saraswati heard a light tapping on the door that lead to
the balcony. She got up and went to see who it was.
"Bhavishya aap?!" She opened the door and threw herself at him. He
wrapped his arms around her and pulled her outside.
"Bhavishya itni subah subah yahan kya kareho?"
"Har subah main sab se pehle tumhara chehra dekhna chaata hoon."
"Toh mujhse shaadi kar lena." Before Bhavishya could answer someone
knocked at the door.
"Chup jao! OMG!!" Saraswati ran towards the door as Bhavishya hid
himself on the balcony. She opened it and Reetu walked in."
"Choti Sahiba...nashta ke liye nahin aaogi? Sab aapka intezaar kare hain."
"Haan main abhi aaye...aap jao."
Reetu shut the door and left . Saraswati walked back to Bhavishya. "Chalo
mujhe jaana hai...par aapke Papa aare hain shaam ko..toh unke saath
aana."
"Teak hai..bye." Bhavishya left.

Saraswati came and sat down at the table. She knew that no one would
mention what happened yesterday and it made her mad. That's how
things were in this house. Something bad would happen..and thier would
be a big fight..but the next day everyone would act as if it had never
happened.
Everyone was caught up in thier own world and no one payed any
attention to anyone else. So why exactly did they sit together everyday for
breakfast and dinner. Saraswati wanted just for one meal for everyone to
talk together and laugh. But it would never happen.
The phone rang and Menka signalled Reetu to get it.
"Hello...jee kaun?..Haan woh breakfast kaare hain...main unhe bulaati
hoon." Reetu put the phone on the table Reetu walked back to the table.
"Chote Sahib Tina Ma'am Ka phone hai." Yuvraj looked up.
"Tina ka..jao na beta baat karo!!!"
"Reetu unhe bolo key main busy hoon."
"Teak hai Sahib..."
"Nahin Reetu ..yeh na bolna...chal Yuvraj jao!!"
"Maa main khaana kaara hoon." Menka gave Yuvraj a harsh look and
signalled him to go.
he got up and picked up the phone. "Hello?"
"Hi. Yuvraj?"
"Gee."
"Yuvraj main Tina bolri hoon...aapke paas thora waqt hai mujhse baat
karne ka?"
"Nahin sorry main bhot busy hoon."
"Umm teak hain toh...shaam ko mile?"
"Shaam ko bhi busy hoon...sorry."
"Main bhi sorry hoon bye."
"Bye."
Yuvraj turned around to see his mom standing there angrily.
"YUVRAJ! Apne aisa kyun kiya..chal mere saath." Menka grabbed Yuvraj's
arm and took him to Suryakant.
"Dekha...Tina ne phone kiya or isse milna chaahri thi par yeh bhi na."
"Kyun beta? Tumhe Tina sey milna chaaye tha...end main ussi sey shaadi
karna hai na?"
"Nahin Papa main usse shaadi nahin karoonga!"
"Shaadi nahin karoge toh Tina key Papa hum se business deal kaise
karenge?"
"Papa marraige is not a business deal!"
"Yuvraj! Maine ore nahin suna!"

Yuvraj was furious. "Papa agar aapko lagta hai key main Tina sey shaadi
karoonga business deal ke liye...toh you must be kidding...isleeyay kabhi
nahin hoga." He turned around and left. Menka went after him but had
the door slammed in her face. She turned around slowly trying to gain
some dignity before someone said something. The girls realized that it
was time to go before the situation got stressful and got up. Laxmi took
Durga's hand and walked upstairs with Saraswati and Gauri following.
Saraswati smiled," Chalo hum sab saath hai toh kuch karte hain!"
"Haan di sey kehri ho."Laxmi nodded her head in agreement.
Gauri shook her head no and walked into her room. Laxmi and Saraswati
gave each other look. They were kind of relieved that Gauri wasnt coming
because then they could talk to Durga more openly.
"Park pey chale?"
"Haan di! Durga Di aap bhi jaogi naa?" Durga slowly nodded her head.
"Chalo great sab tyaar ho jao!Phir Papa sey poochte hain." The girls
walked into their rooms.

Gauri sat and looked out the window. She didnt even know why she
refused to hang out with her sisters. She didnt always hate hanging out
with them. There was a time that they all four would play together. Gauri
looked out onto the balcony of her room and saw that it was a beautiful
day.
"Andhar rehne ka tho koi fehda nahin hai...mujhe kahin jaana chaaye. Par
kahan?Hmmmm....woh naya shopping center kula hai wahan par jaati
hoon.Par Papa sey poochna parega."
All of the girls came out of their rooms at the same time and started to
walk down the stairs. Suryakant was sitting their business papers in hand.
The girls went and stood in front of him. Saraswati cleared her throat but
Suryakant didnt notice.
"Uhm Papa..." Suryakant looked up but barely.He was more focused on his
paperwork. "Kya main, Laxmi or Durga park par jaa sakte hain?"
"Haan driver key saath jaana." he said absentmindedly.
"Haan or Papa woh jo new shopping center kula hai main wahan jaana
chaati hoon."
"Haan teak hain."
"Gauri aap kaise jaogi..agar hum driver ke saath jare hain?"
"Koi baat nahin rickshaw dhoondloongi."
"RICKSHAW???? Chalo aapki marzi."

All of the girls left.
Gauri walked out onto the main street and looked at the rush.
"Oho main kya sochri thi...rickshaw toh maine zindagi mein kabhi nahin
liya!"
"Yeh toh problem hai na?" Gauri whirled around and saw a boy standing
there smiling at her.
"TUM!Tum toh wohi bench wale ladke ho!"
"You remember me?!Mujhe laga tha key tum mujhe bhool chuke hoti. Par
you remember me ...so sweet."
"Dekho...just leave me alone."
"Aapko help nahin chaaye...matlab main aapke liye rickshaw bulao."
"Nahin main khud kar sakti hoon." Gauri turned back to the busy street
and stuck out her hand at passing rickshaws.
The boy started to laugh, "Aisa nahin hota yaar!Rickshaw!" A rickshaw
came zooming up to them. Gauri looked down embarassed.
"Thank you."
"Vaise aap kahan jaa rahi ho?"
"Woh new shopping center."
"Main bhi waheen jaara hoon...chalo hum saath chalte hain!" The boy
pushed Gauri into the rickshaw and sat down beside her. "Bhai
ji...Shalimaar Shopping Center please."
Gauri was furious. How dare he sit wtih her. "Rukye Bhaiji..." Gauri started
to get out of the rickshaw but the boy stopped her.
"Ab kahan jaa rahi ho?"He grabbed her hand and she fell back in.
"Mera haath chodo!!"
"Par aap jaa kahan re ho?"
"Mera haath chodo varna main zor se cheekoongi!!!"
"Teak hai chor diya...par tum kahan jaa rahi ho?"
"Main aapke saath nahin jaana chaati..main doosra rickshaw loongi."
"Nahin tumhe jaane ki zaroorat nahin hai...main chala ja tha hoon."
Gauri felt bad...he hadn't said anything to her so why did she have a
problem with him sitting there? "Nahin chodo saath jaate hain." She sat
down quietly and looked the other way. The rickshaw driver started up
again and they drove off. After a while of driving Gauri looked over at
him. She saw that he was quite good-looking and attractive. He turned
and looked at her and she looked down.
"Kya dekhri thi?"
"Kuch nahin."
"Aap jaise ladkiyon pey jhoot acha nahin lagta."
Gauri looked down embarassed. The driver turned around.
"Behenji...yeh raasta kaafi busy hai ...main ek ore raasta jaanta hoon par
kaafi bumpy hai."
"Koi baat nahin ..hum bumpy raasta pey jayenge..shopping ke baad ghar
bhi ponchna hai..or woh bhi shaam se pehle."
"Teak hai behenji."
The driver turned the rickshaw around and headed off in the opposite
direction. The road was so bumpy and Gauri was not used to it at all. She
was used to travelling in her luxurious car and nothing like this at all. She
was swaying back and forth and trying to keep her balance. The rickshaw
flew over another bump and she was not able to hold herself, she flew
onto the boy. Her head landed on his chest and she stay frozen. She
looked up into his eyes and it seemed as if time froze.

PART 16
Evening that day:
Everyone was getting ready for the party that night. All the girls in the
house were wearing beautiful saris and jewelery. And the guys were all in
suits and ties. The party was to celebrate Bhavishya's homecoming after
successful graduation. He was going to get an executive position in
Suryakant's business where his dad was already vice-president. Saraswati
was so happy for him..it was all that she had expected of him and even
more. Her dream was always to marry a high-class, businessman where
there could walk side by side and go to high society parties.And it
seemed as if her dream was closer with Bhavishya getting this job.
Everyone came downstairs and got the area they were expected to
oversee.
Suryakant called out to everyone." Savitri aap Durga ko leke hall mein
table setting check karo. Menka... Gauri ko leke decorations check karna,
hmmm.... Yuvraj baar check karna agar watchmen sare set hain..or
parking bhi. Laxmi aap music or stereo system check karlo. Only soft
songs. Or kya hai???? Oh haan Saraswati kitchen mein jaake caterers ka
dyaan rakhna. " Everyone left to oversee their areas.

Menka and Gauri were walking around calling out to the decoraters.
"Gauri, Yuvaj ko naa batana par Tina aare hai."
"Oh wow that's good par Yuvraj usse dekhe khush nahin hoga."
"Haan isleeyay main sabko bataongi ke unhe saath betaana or unhe akele
mein baat bhi karne dena."
"Sabko bataake kya hoga? Yuvraj toh nahin maanega."
Menka was worried. If tonight didnt go well it would ruin their future
plans. "Chalo main sochti hoon."

Saraswati entered the kitchen and saw craziness. Nothing was
ready..dishes, cooking utensils and people were everywhere. Saraswati
was horrified. "OMG..yahan par kya hora hai?!"
Everyone in the kitchen turned to look at her.
"Yahan par in charge kaun hai?"
"Woh Madam, Sahibjee abhi nahin aaye."
"WHAT? Tumhare sahibjee ka toh main....!!!!"
Someone entered the kitchen," Sahibjee aa gaye hain."
"Kahan par hain?Main unhse milna chaati hoon."
She turned around when the kitchen door was once again opened and
was surpised to see Shitij.
"Shitij???? Aap yahan par kya kareho?"
"Oho Saraswati aapne humein hire kiya or yeh bhi nahin pata." He pointed
to a box that said KUMAR CATERING.
"Oh... toh aap yahan ka in charge hain? Ab mujhe samaj aaye key yahan
par kyun kuch sey nahin chalra."
"Saraswati aap fikar na karna...gave me half adn hour...sab kuch ready
hoga."
"Ok teah hain par everything has to be perfect. Yeh party Bhavishya ke
leeyay hai." Saraswati turned and left the kitchen with Shitij staring afer
her.

Yuvraj was standing outside when Durga came out.
"Durga Di...yahan par kya kare ho?Aapko andhar rehna chaaye."
Durga looked up and saw Yuvraj looking at her concerned. "Yuvraj."she
said slowly. "Woh aaj kaun aara hai?"
"Oh Durga Di saare business executives?"
"Main kissi ko jaanti hoon?"
"Haan Bhavishya Bhaiyya aare hain..saare office ke log...or aap fikar na
karna bored hojao toh hum sab hain na?"
'Nahin isleeyay Saraswati Di or Laxmi toh Bhabishya key saath honge...or
aapko toh pata hai Gauri ki aadat."
"Toh aap Bhavishya Bhaiyya sey baat nahin karna chaati." She shook her
head no."Well main toh hoon na? Mujhse baat kar lena."
"Nahin Yuvraj ...Choti Maa ne bola key aapko or woh Tina ko akela
chorna."
"TINA KO? Woh bhi aare hain..oh no!"

PART 17

Exactly half an hour later Saraswati went into the kitchen. She was
amazed..everything looked absolutely delicious. She turned to find a
smiling Shitij behind her.
"Wow Shitij I am impressed!"
"Maine bola tha give me half an hour sab kuch ready hoga...or main kabhi
jhoot nahin bolta."
"Main kuch try karsakte hoon?"
"Haan of course..ye kaake batao kaisa hai." He handed her a spoon with
some kheer on it.
"Wow amazing!!! Chalo main chalti hoon." Saraswati turned to leave when
Shitij grabbed her hand.
"Ek minute." He pulled Saraswati back and turned her around so that they
were face to face. Saraswati looked worried but Shitij started to laugh.He
grabbed a napkin and wiped the corner of her mouth.
"Mujhe nahin lagta key high-society parties main kheer moon pey lagake
jaate hain."
"O thanks." Saraswati turned and left.

The doorbell rang and one of the workers went to open it. It was
Bhavishya and his dad. Suryakant went and greeted them both giving
Bhavishya a warm hug. Bhavishya bent down and touched Suryakants feet
and then Savitris and Menkas while the girls and Yuvraj did that to his
dad. When it was time for Bhavishya to greet the girls he acted as if he
hadnt met them since his return. As he said hi to all of them he winked at
Saraswati who blushed and looked down.
Everyone went and sat down on the couches waiting for the rest of the
guests to come. Bhavishya now being a "businessman" had to talk with
Suryakant and his father but kept looking at Saraswati whenever he had a
chance. She looked beautiful in her blue and light pink sari. He just
couldnt wait for more guests to come so he was free to move around but
for right now he was the center of attention.
Shitij looked out from the kitchen and couldnt help but admore how
beautiful Saraswati looked. He also noticed how Bhavishya kept looking at
her and it made him queasy...or maybe.... possibly... jealous.
More guests had arrived but not the person Menka was waiting for -Tina.
It seemed as if hours had passed before the doorbell finally rang again.
Menka shot out of her seat but the doorman had already gotten it.
Entered Siddanth Mahlotra, his wife Rimi and of course Tina. Suryakant,
Savitri, Menka and the girls all got up to greet them while Yuvraj stayed
put and acted as if he didnt know the door had opened.
"Siddanth itni dher lagaai tumne." Suryakant said hugging him.
"Oho Suryakant yeh Rimi or Tina key vaja sey hai...aapko tho pata hai key
inhe kitni dher lagti hai tyaar hone main."
Savitri hugged Rimi," Rimi aap toh bhot achi lagri ho sari main." Rimi
laughed and hugged her back," Savitri aap bhi bhot achi lagri hain..or yeh
sari toh meri favorite." Rimi and Savitri had grown up together being the
daughters of respectable businessmen. It wasnt a surprise that their
husbands grew up together too. Menka on the other hand had come from
a high class family but not as high as anyone else's. Menka not liking how
Saraswati and Rimi talked cut in.
"Oho Rimi behen aap bhi na...Savitri ke sari itni achi bhi nahin hai....inke
maayka sey aaya hoga."
"Nahina jee..yeh sari main Savitri ko diya tha." Rimi was not happy to hear
Menka's comments adn didnt even greet her after that.
Tina stood quietly behind her parents. Saraswati and Laxmi nudged each
other and walked up to her.
"Hi Tina? Right?"
"Haan or aap Saraswati or Laxmi hain na?"
"Haan aapko kaise pata hai?"
"Aap logon key baare mein itna kuch suna hai..its crazy." Saraswati and
Laxmi smiled at her. Menka saw that Tina was being held up at the door
and would never have a chance to meet Yuvraj. She walked over there and
stood in fornt of Tina.
"TINA BETI..andhar aao na!!" She shoved Saraswati and Laxmi to the side
and smiled at Tina.
"Auntyjee main toh Saraswati or Laxmi sey batein kari thi..agar aap mind
nahin karti." Tina, like her mom, didnt take an instant liking to Menka.
"Inke saath toh baad mey bhi baate karsakte ho...aao main aapko Yuvraj
sey milwaate hoon." Menka grabbed her hand and took off. Tina looked
back at the girls and rolled her eyes. "Save me."she mouthed.

Bhavishya finally found a chance to talk to Saraswati. When Siddanth had
hugged him..Bhavishya offered him his spot...which was right in the
center. Bhavishya walked up to Laxmi and Saraswati.
"Excuse me...Saali jee...agar aap mind nahin karte toh main apni hone-
waali biwi sey akele mey baat karsakta hoon?" Saraswati blushed.
"Nahin Jeeju... be my guest..main jaake Tina ko bacha thi hoon."
"Bhavishya sab humein dekhenge...paanch minute mein mujhe oopar
milena." Saraswati walked off.
