Beyond dreams
Bollywood beckons Darshan Dave
The name Darshan Dave may not ring a bell, but his screen name Sujeet definitely will. Yes, the same Bihari son-in-law of Om Shankar in the serial Ghar… Ek Sapna on Sahara Television. With a tint of grey to his otherwise romantic character, Darshan has stolen many hearts. The latest feather in his cap is the Best Actor (Drama) Award at ITA award. Darshan is beaming at the very mention of it, "It's not even 10 months that the show is on air and I already have been nominated three times and even won an award. This despite not being the lead. It feels nice to know that people appreciate your work."
Reached there
And for someone who had initially refused that role, it is something to feel good about. "I was very clear that I wanted to do only lead roles. So when director Ajai Sinha, who is also a good friend, asked me to do this I refused as I didn't want to be sidelined. But he persisted that my role will be as important. Today, I am glad I accepted it, though at times I feel I haven't received my due," explains Darshan.
He may have become a household name with his debut serial, but television is not a new medium for Darshan, who has earlier acted in a tele-film as part of the Rishtey series on Zee TV and has also done several TV ads. "After coming to Mumbai from Jaipur to become an actor, I decided to do a course in film making as I wanted to know what goes behind the scenes. But that worked against me as people didn't give me work as an actor. So I took to film making instead. After sometime Ajai offered me a role in Rishtey – The Boss, after which there was again a dry spell till Ghar…" happened," says the music director and lyricist. "I even composed and arranged music for Rishtey. Coming from a music background, music has always been a part of me. But it is just a hobby. "
Now set to turn a hero with his first Bollywood venture, Kuch Khel Kuch Masti, Darshan plays a RJ from Punjab in this comedy film. "I play a complete fool in this film made by Raj Gandhi and Anand Rai," sums up the actor.
