GES lost its Bihar,Balika Vadhu retained its Rajasthan
Ghar ek sapna has possibly done everything that has taken away its first impression and initial visual impact,sometimes I just want to go back and watch the initial 50 episodes when Samman in Bihar was the central story,all that followed was a predictable copy of a regular daily show,so why should i watch GES ?
GES IS BIHAR,GES has the first impact and LOGO of Bihar that made it different,now the logo family is hardly remaining and the story shifts to Mumbai for producer's convinience.
Samman went to Bihar and the story started there,we saw a Bihari family and their aura,their performance,the raw gloss...the first family and characters we saw on screen just clicked, it was a very clever presentation to kickstart a show and viewers instantly got glued to the show,GES got its first stars in Sujit,Omshanker Kakul and Trisha,rest characters from Amarnath's family were woven around their aura and existence,Omshanker didnt come to Mumbai when story started so,it was the main family shown,now the main establishing Bihari family has been broken,Trisha died,Sujit who was Omshanker's son in law has been made Amarnath's son inlaw,etc and Amarnath's family's regular not so different story is just weakly hammering since so many months,Imagine what difference GES would have made without this mindblowing Bihar opening,and it seems those initial episodes of Bihar were just like a trailor to run the show but after that ,memories remain....Bihar Bihar and just Bihar was something that gave GES instant recognition,that aura,those personas and that different culture,which is nowhere now in the show.
Balika vadhu has again tried that different culture formula and has become successful but it is working and will work because they are determined to continue with the colour and feel that has clicked with the masses,I hope these producers will never shift their focus from the kick start vernacular setup to an urban story for their convinience....the challenge is to catch hold of that colour and shade that creates an impact and then sustain the show with the same colours and not change it else there is a risk of losing show's identity and the very incentive of watching the show among hundreds of shows like GES.
Humlog,Malgudi days,Vikram aur Betal,Nukkad,Circus,Shriman Shrimati,Office Office,Rajni,CID,Karamchand,and all popular characters in them,are brilliant examples of the fact that if you start liking certain actors,characters,location,situation or setup you can watch it for years and years without wanting any change....
GES will have to encash their Bihari formula to comeback to their initial response,else nobody can remember a show without an original identity of their own....and GES has to be Bihar again,and not Mumbai as we already have hundreds of Mumbais in hundreds of shows on hundreds of channels.....
