Chapter 134
"Maan, dadima must be awake by now" Geet climbed out of bed grabbing his shirt and slipping into it, she glanced over her shoulder, he was on his stomach with his eyes closed seemingly asleep. "Maan" she called knowing full well he wasn’t sleeping. "Maan" she grabbed his jeans and chucked in his direction.
"What the…" Maan groaned sitting up, the belt had struck his shoulder.
"Did it hurt?" she asked.
"Why do you think I got up?" he answered shaking his head.
"Good, abhi chalo" she huffed hurrying into their bathroom and stepped into the shower.
"You want me to join you? Won't that make you late?" he called out teasingly.
"Maan, go and check on dadima. We've not checked on dadima yet" she responded loudly.
"I'll be quick" he told her stepping into the shower. Geet shook her head and slapped his hand away as he reached over for her and warned him.
Maan chuckled slid his arm around her waist and pulled his wife to him, he cupped her chin and lowered his head kissing her adamantly.
"We*kiss*need to check*kiss*on dadima*kiss*" she murmured in between his soft gentle kisses. "Two minutes…" he answered and kissed her deeply pressing her back against the tiled walls, he pulled away pecking her lips then had a quick shower stepping out towelling himself dry. Maan then slipped on his jeans, snagging a clean t-shirt and walked out of his bedroom to go check on dadima as he promised Geet.
"Dadima" he knocked on her bedroom door and pushed open the door when she didn’t respond. He walked over towards her noting she was sat on the chair, Maan walked around crouching in front of dadima as she stared out ahead.
"Dadima…" he touched her knee.
Dadima snapped out of her thoughts, looking down at her grandson. She reached out cradling his cheek, and pulled him close, Maan pushed forward hugging her around her middle.
"I'm okay" Maan assured after a while, he pulled back pressing a kiss to her forehead.
"Yeh aurat…" Dadima sighed, "Never had I imagined she enter our lives again".
"She hasn’t entered our lives and we're not going to let that happen" Maan responded, "Dadima, please don’t stress. I'm okay" he held onto her hands and squeezed.
"Have you spoken to Geet?" she questioned.
"She knows a little, I'm going to tell her. I've asked for some time" he replied.
Dadima nodded still looking concerned, she was afraid of her grandson pulling away from everyone and burying himself into his work.
"Dadima, we're going to live our life. She isn't going to affect us anymore, you're not going to let her and I won't as well" he stated. "She's taken years of my life, I'm not going to let her affect my life anymore".
Dadima nodded agreeing with him, Gayatri had ruined many years of their lives, they weren’t going to give her any more of their time.
"Geet, kahan hai?" dadima questioned.
"She's…" before he could answer, Geet appeared sliding her arms around dadima from behind.
"I'm right here" Geet pressed a kiss to dadima's cheek. "Dadima, I'm hungry – can we all go and eat something?" she looked at her husband then looked at dadima.
Dadima chuckled, "Teek hai bete" she stood with Maan's assistance and walked out together.
"Bete, why is your hair wet? Did you have another shower?" dadima questioned Geet as they entered the kitchen.
"Uh…"
"Yes, Geet why is it wet for?" Maan intervened looking as curiously as dadima.
"Maan" Geet gaped at him and scowled.
"Arre kya hua?" dadima smiled. "Aap Maan pe kyun gussa ho rahe hai?"
"I know, Geet"
"Maan, why don’t you tell dadima why your hair is looking a little damp?" Geet snapped.
Dadima glanced over and noticed her grandson's hair seemed a little damp as well, she looked between the two and laughed. "Samajh gayi main…3 years and you're still in the honeymooning stage".
"It only took Geet a year to take notice of me" Maan winked.
"Dekh rahe hai, dadima?" Geet pointed, "You ignored me for a year".
"I didn’t" Maan shook his head, "I remember those cartoon clothes you used to wear, now had I been ignoring you, would I have remembered that?" he asked.
"Urgh! I hate you" Geet scowled. "Dadima, aapko yaad haina – Maan didn’t want me to work with him".
"You refused when I asked" Maan responded.
"Geet sahi keh rahi hai, I asked so many times" Dadima agreed chuckling.
"Geet avoided me at all costs" Maan stated, "Do you remember wanting to see if I had any marks after going skiing, she ran away" he pointed.
"I… I don’t gawp at stranger's bodies" Geet cut in.
"Dekha dadima, she considered me a stranger. I'm sure it was well over 9 months of being married" he responded. "I told you, it took her over a year to take notice of me".
"I was looking for Shah Rukh Khan's Raj, Rahul in your face, but I didn’t find it, so I settled for Maan Khurana, that’s why it took me over a year to take notice".
Before Maan could reply, dadima cut in.
"Bas, bas… Let's have dinner peacefully" she told them.
Maan heated the curries, whilst Geet rolled out fresh chapattis and made them in the flattened pan, dadima placed the plates and glasses of water on the table.
"Do you want vegetables?" Maan pulled out a steamed bag and tossed it into the microwave.
"I'll share with you" she answered, "I wouldn’t be able to finish it".
"Dadima?" Maan held out a steamed bag.
"Nahi bete" dadima shook her head and cut up some fruit for afters.
"Where are you lost?" Amelia asked Meera, they were sat in the waiting area to be called inside by the doctor. Karan was stood by the wall unable to sit calmly, today they were meeting up with a specialised oncologist who was one of the best. He feared of what the oncologist may have to say after running the number of tests.
He feared of the challenges ahead of them, he had never been afraid of what may be lying ahead in his path however today, he was scared.
He was silently praying for some sort of silver lining in the dark clouds that had darkened up their lives.
"Meers" Amelia nudged her when she didn’t answer.
"I…I…" Meera had pondered over what Anisha had told her last time, her bump was visible – not so much but it was visible. She wouldn’t be able to hide it for more than a couple of weeks, one of them would catch on and notice it and they'd be really upset.
"Amelia" the doctor walked out of the room calling her name.
"That's us" Karan walked over, his arms instantly going around her waist helping her up off her chair.
"I'll tell you after" Meera promised seeing Amelia about to protest, Amelia nodded and entered the doctor's room with Karan and Meera besides her. She silently hoped that he give her some hope, she didn’t want to die.
Dadima had settled on the sofa after dinner, whilst Maan and Geet cleared up.
"Maan… do you think dadima should stay here?" Geet asked softly, their open plan apartment had one disadvantage, the living area was only a couple of metres away. The sofa thankfully on the other side.
"What do you mean?" he turned his head after putting the glasses away.
"Maan… Dadima is stressing and worrying" Geet murmured and glanced over to where dadima was sat, she wasn’t focused on anything in particular once again. She seemed lost in her own thoughts.
"We've… Since…" Geet swallowed thickly, "It's been something or the other, all this stress isn't going to be good for dadima especially when she's got a few heart problems".
Maan agreed, and glanced over to where dadima was sitting. "That woman not only affected me and Vikrant, she hurt my dadima a lot as well" he murmured.
"Seeing her here is hurting dadima" Geet stated softly.
"Would you be okay?" he asked, Geet knew what he was asking.
"You're here" she responded.
"Always, always Geet" he promised reaching for her hand and squeezed. Geet smiled and looked over where dadima was sat, her smile faltered seeing dadima overthinking and allowing the woman affect her. She hated seeing her hurting, she wanted to push out of the hurt out of dadima's life, she didn’t want anything hurting the woman who'd loved her like a mother for the last couple of years. Maybe her suggestion would be a distraction for dadima and allow her mind to be focused on something else other than Gayatri.
