Chapter 132

"You did what?" Meera turned around, her eyes narrowed and furious.

"I... well not kissed" Vikrant murmured as he watched his wife climb down the steps and come towards him.

"What do you mean by YOU KISSED-NOT KISSED Jennifer? You either kissed her or you didn’t. Which is it?" Her fingers tightened around the water jug.

"I didn’t kiss... her... but it might seem like it did" Vikrant mumbled as he tried to make sense of what he was saying.

Unable to hold back her rage within, Meera flung the jug, the cold water splashing fiercely on Vikrant’s face.

"MEERA" Vikrant hissed rubbing his face.

"Sit down and tell me what the hell you’re talking about, I’ve had enough of these secrets, enough of you lying and being silent. Tell me the truth, Vikrant. You either kissed another woman or you didn’t, despite being married to me" her voice trailed off, anger, hurt evident in her tone.

Vikrant sighed heavily brushing his hand through his now wet hair.

"Jennifer and I were shooting, a sequence of us kissing, well pretending to kiss" he started slowly. "This was supposed to be a surprise for our fans, it was under wraps. Only crew members knew about it, the day we were shooting for it someone snapped us from an angle where it seems we were kissing. I didn’t even know until I received an envelope with the pictures inside, it was edited in a way that it seemed we were without clothes as well".

Meera listened without interrupting him, his words sinking in.

"This… b*stard who snapped us started blackmailing me, each interview I've mentioned you and he knew you were my weakness, if I told you I know you'd stress over it because the images would leak out, he was going to send them you if I didn’t pay up. I didn’t want to hurt you with the media frenzy that would have followed, I didn’t want to add onto the stress".

His confession was like a soothing balm over her sinking heart, she had assumed the worst when he'd uttered those words, thought it had relieved her it didn’t stop the hurt or anger she felt towards her husband.

"How couldn’t you have told me?" she questioned.

"I didn’t want to stress or hurt you with this, Meers. I was closing in on the b*stard who's been blackmailing me" he answered.

"That doesn’t excuse the silence, I wished you trusted me enough to tell me" she murmured. "Haven't we gone through enough to trust each other blindly?" she questioned.

"I'm so sorry, Meers" he stepped forward taking her hand into his and squeezed.

Meera freed her hands from his and turned climbing up the stairs, she paused hearing footsteps behind her, "Don’t follow me, you're not sleeping next to me" she stated without a single glance over her shoulder. If she had looked over, she would’ve seen Vikrant's pained face as he realised that he had hurt his wife even more.

"I just wish you'd have told me" she murmured and walked towards their bedroom.

Geet watched her husband moving around their bedroom, it was only nearing 7am and despite sleeping late, he was up and ready for work. Recently, he hadn’t started until 9am. "Maan" she called sitting up and leaning against the headboard.

"Hey" Maan approached her side settling on the edge and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Sleep for some more time, dadima isn’t going to be waking up anytime soon" he told her.

"You’re going to work?" she asked concerned.

"Yes, I’m not going to let that woman affect me" he informed, he had woken up determined. He allowed himself to be vulnerable due to the sudden shock of seeing her, however that was now behind him. He wasn’t going to let the woman have an affect on his life, she didn’t exist for him.

Geet cradled his cheek, "Then stay, have breakfast as we have been doing altogether then go to work" she replied.

"I’ve got things at the office that I..."

"I don’t want to hear anything" Geet cut him off shaking her head, "You’re going to stay and eat breakfast, then you’re going to give me my kiss - after that you’re going to work" she stated.

Maan smiled softly closing his eyes when Geet leaned forward and pressed a kiss to his nose.

"Go and sit watching the news or something, I’m going to brush my teeth and then prepare something" she gestured.

He managed to smile properly, leaning forward he kissed his wife slowly and gently. He couldn’t have thanked her for her support, she was pulling him back before he allowed the woman affect him anymore. He hoped to disappear and immerse himself into his work and forget that the woman he hated most was a couple of feet away.

"Meera?" Anisha looked pleasantly surprised seeing her walk in. Meera greeted her with a hug exchanging pleasantries with one another.

"Did you finish work just now?" she asked.

"Just a little bit ago, woh Amelia text me saying she’ll be staying here for a while" Meera responded.

"Haan, woh upar hai" Anisha pointed, "Why don’t you go up and see her? I’ll bring some tea and snacks for you both".

"Please don’t trouble yourself, I won’t be staying for long" she informed, "I’m just going to check up on her" she excused herself and headed upstairs. Amelia was sat leaning against the headboard of the room switching channels on the tv.

"Knock, knock" Meera knocked on the door.

Amelia smiled faintly climbing out of bed, Meera was beside her in an instant, both of them enveloping one another tightly. Both girls had missed one another the last couple of days, they had been each other’s support whenever they needed.

"How are you?" Meera pulled away slowly brushing Amelia’s hair away from her face.

"Still alive" Amelia shrugged.

"Don’t joke like that" Meera scowled cradling both her cheeks, "I don’t want to even think of losing another friend. I’ve lost one already" she murmured. Amelia sighed climbing back into bed and pulling the blanket over herself.

"Have you spoken to Geet?" Meera sat down on the edge of the bed.

Amelia shook her head, "I... I won’t tell her about me and neither will you mention anything" she stated firmly.

Meera couldn’t counter her decision because Amelia wasn’t the only one hiding, they were all hiding something. When had secrets come between them all? They’d once laid out their lives bare in front of their friends and family yet here they all are hiding one thing or the other.

"How have you been? How is Karan?" Meera questioned.

"He’s been supportive, but I hear him speaking to Anisha aunty. He’s scared" Amelia said, despite Karan seemingly trying to be strong he was afraid of what the future held for them.

"Everyone is" Meera agreed reaching for Amelia’s hand and squeezed.

"Are you okay? How is my boyfriend?" Amelia asked trying her utmost best to be cheerful and teasing.

"Your boyfriend is in the dog house right now and isn’t coming out so easily" Meera huffed.

"Uh oh, what did he do now?"

"You don’t even want to know" Meera shook her head.

"Try me, it’d give me something to focus on something else other than..." Amelia trailed off.

Meera then explained everything keeping out the fact that she’s been immensely hurt and insecure due to his silence and the closeness that was highlighted in every damn article.

"My boyfriend is stupid" Amelia shook her head, "you’d think he’d know better".

"Why am I stupid?" Karan walked in looking curiously between both friends. "I’ve not done anything" he added.

"We’re talking about Vikrant" Meera informed, "your cousin is an asshat and I wish I’d not been dumb enough to fall for his cheesy pick up lines" she muttered.

Karan chuckled, "I’m sure whatever he’s done, he’s regretting it".

"He’s got a lot of making up to do" Meera informed nodding her head then looked at Amelia. "Have you chosen a treatment? Or doctor?"

"We’re meeting a couple of them over the next few days" Amelia answered.

"Okay, if you want me to join let me know. I’d like to be there" Meera responded.

Amelia nodded, Karan was very supportive right now however Amelia could do with her friend as well during the difficult time. She would have loved it even more having Geet here holding her hand as well.

"I’d appreciate that" Amelia answered. "Karan is making me meet around 4 doctors in one day" she pouted mockingly.

"Yes, only so we could weed out the best one" Karan shifted stretching on the bed settling besides her, "I want to hear who’s got the best treatment and who’s sensitive" he added.

"I agree" Meera nodded, "you don’t want a doctor who just thinks you’re a new challenge for him as some doctors do, they don’t consider that you are a life".

"Okay, I’ll listen to what you’ve got to say" Amelia held her hands up in mock surrender.

"Good" Meera smiled, she leaned forward pressing a kiss to Amelia’s cheek. "I’ve got to get home, text me".

"See you later" both Amelia and Karan bid bye to her as she walked out.

"Meera" Anisha called noting that she was climbing down the stairs. "Going already?" she questioned curiously.

"Yes, I’ve got to get home. I’ve got some work to do and prepare something to eat tonight" she explained.

"I’ve got some containers packed, take these with you" she told her walking to the table where she had already packed a bag of homemade food. "Eat with Vikrant and take care of your eating, you’re eating for two" she added surprising Meera who stared taken aback.

"H...how did... How did you know?" Meera asked softly.

"I was pregnant, not once but twice" Anisha smiled, "Why have you not told anyone? This is happy news, Meera".

"What happened with... I’m worried and I don’t want to hurt Geet".

Anisha smiled gently, caressing Meera’s cheek she said "Do you think Geet would be hurting to know her best friend is pregnant? She’s going to be happy for you, yes she might remember her daughter but she’ll be happy for you. She wouldn’t be unhappy with this news".

Meera thought over her words carefully.

"Don’t take too long to tell everyone" Anisha added, "And take care of yourself properly, if you ever want anything don’t hesitate to come for me" she patted her cheek. Meera smiled and gave Anisha a hug and headed back towards the mansion. It didn’t surprise her to see that their mansion is silent once again.

Geet had just bid bye to Maan and was closing the door when a hand reached out stopping her. She frowned confused and opened the door. "Taz, Sanjana, what are you two doing here?"

"We’ve come to talk" Sanjana replied.

"Not now please" Geet shook her head, Maan might not be here but dadima was and she was sat on the sofa waiting.

"Is Maan, Gayatri aunty’s son?" Sanjana asked slowly. Before Geet could answer, dadima had intervened having heard them.

"That woman isn’t related to any of us in any way" dadima walked over.

Sanjana shared a look with Taz pondering over the hatred filled look that lingered in dadima’s eyes and the tone of her voice.

"It’s best if we keep some distance for a little while" Geet suggested. Taz and Sanjana agreed nodding their heads and returned to their apartment.

"Something isn’t right" Sanjana stated, "the woman looks beyond pissed off" she commented.

"You sure Cruella isn’t lying?" Taz questioned unlocking her door and entering inside followed by Sanjana.

"I’m sure she’s hiding something, why would a mother disown her own child?" she questioned.

"And Geet’s spoken highly of her" Taz reminded. "The woman is old, and doesn’t seem like she’s got a malicious bone in her body" she added.

"Cruella is either lying or hiding something" Sanjana declared.

"Cruella isn’t going to spill the beans to us, she’s got her flawless image to keep up for Aditya and her husband" Taz informed, "And, you heard what Geet said they want space - so how will we find out what she’s hiding?"

Maan sat on his desk staring ahead blankly, he’d closed the blinds and locked the door informing his assistant that he didn’t want to be disturbed, he had even called the clients to reschedule their appointment.

There wasn’t a time he had come to the office and simply stared at his surroundings, even when he’d first moved to Manchester he allowed himself work to distract his mind wanting to keep himself occupied and not overthink in trying to understand as to why his daughter had not made it into his arms long enough.

This situation, however was proving difficult. He pinched the bridge of his nose sighing heavily in frustration, he saw Gayatri each time he closed his eyes, which was quickly followed with the memory of Geet cradling their daughter. They had their daughter for a couple of minutes in their arms, lifeless yet the powerful pull of love tugged at their hearts, so how hadn’t the woman who’d given birth, who had raised them for a little while leave them due to the greed for money? How could she have left them so cruelly? They had just lost their father, she hadn’t allowed them to cry because she had already found out the husband she’d bagged in the hopes of becoming rich was in fact losing all his money and the little money that had remained was put under his and Vikrant’s name.

If she once had told him to bring her the moon, he’d had worked day and night to give that if it meant that she remain and raise them with her love. He would have worked his damned hardest for that woman and she had ruined him within a few minutes.
