CHAPTER 19
ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Any MEDICAL PROCEDURES, MEDICAL TERMS, RELIGIOUS TERMS, Punjabi terms, architectural terms, IT terms & programs, hospital/office hierachy, wedding rituals, etc. are from my imagination hence THEY ARE NOT TRUE.
ALL THE PHOTOGRAPHS DOWNLOADED DO NOT BELONG TO ME BUT BELONG TO THE ORIGINAL UPLOADER. I HAVE JUST USED THEM AS THEY GO WITH MY STORY!
NEXT DAY (Golf Links bunglow, New Delhi)
Anjali woke up to hear her Chote Papa talking to someone. “Tu chinta naa kar yaar! Guddo, jaise hi jaagti hai mai uss se leip banwaa deta hoon. Bass usmei se badbu thodi aati hai jo tere beta ko sehani padegi.”(You don’t worry! Guddo is still asleep as soon as she wakes up I’ll get her to make the Ayurvedic remedy. The only snag is that the remedy/ointment stinks a little which your son will have to bear.) Ram happen to see Anjali passing by so he said, “Guddo, utth gayi hai mai do ghante mein leip bhejta hoon.” (Guddo has woken up so I’ll send the Ayurvedic remedy in two hours.) Then Ram became quite as if he was listening to the other person on phone. After sometime Ram scolded the person on phone in jest, “Ranjeete, aaj tu ne “Thank you” keh kar paintees saal (35years) ki dosti todh di. Theek hai.....theek hai.....Acha abb mai phone rakhta hoon.” (Ranjit by saying “Thank you” you have ruined our friendship of 35years. Alright......alright.....I’ll now call off.)

Looking at Anjali showered but in home clothes Ram said, “Beta, kal tere hospital mein mujhe barson purana yaar mila. College mein hum teen close friends the - Lakshmi, Ranjeete aur mai. Humne apna Architecture ki padhai aur MBA bhi ikhate kiya. Hum teeno classmates ke saath room mates bhi the. Khair........Beta kya tum woh leip banna sakti ho jo tum moch mein lagane ke liye bannati theen?” (Yesterday afternoon I found a long lost friend of mine. In college we were three very good friends — Lakshmi, Ranjeete and me. We three had done our Architecture and MBA degrees together from same college. Along with being classmates we were also room mates. Anyway......My dear can you please make the Ayurvedic remedy which you use to apply on your sprained leg?)
“Zarur Papa, magar kisse chote lagi hai?” (Definitely Papa but whose is hurt?)
“Ranjeete ke bete ko.” (Ranjeete’s son.)
“Theek hai aap address batta dijiye hum Sitaramji ko keh kar leip bhijwa denge.” (Alright you give me the address I’ll sent the Ayurvedic remedy with Sitaramji (driver).)
“Nahi beta mai de aaonga. Saath-saath apni college ki purani yaadein bhi taza kar loonga.” (Don’t bother beta. I’ll go and give it. That way I can reminisce with Ranjeete my good old college days.)
“Jaisa aap theek samjhein, Papa. Hum nashta banna ne jaa rahe hain.” (Alright as you think is right. I’m going to prepare breakfast.) A weak Anjali said and started walking towards her kitchen.

“Beta, tumhari tabiyat theek nahi lag rahi hai, kyun naa aaj chutti le lo?” (You are not looking well my child, why don’t you take off today?)
“Nahi Papa, Dr. Vijayalakshmi Chandrashekhar, humari Head of Gynaecology bhi chutti par hain aur baaki yaa toh student doctors hain yaa interns. Iss liye humara jaana zaruri hai. Aur hummein sirf thakan hi toh ho rahi hai. Waise bhi humne resign kar diya hai iss liye inn teen mahino mein hum jitni kam chutti lein utna behtar hoga. Aap chinta matt kariye, agar humari tabiyat zyada karab hogayi toh hum jaldi ghar aa jaayenge.” (No Papa, our Head of Gynaecology, Dr. Vijayalakshmi Chandrashekhar is on leave. Rest of doctors are either medical students or interns. Hence, its important for me to go. Anyway, I’m only feeling a little weak. Besides I’ve already given my resignation papers, therefore according to protocol the least holidays I take, the better. You don’t worry Papa, if I start feeling more weak and uncomfortable during the day I’ll return home at once.)
“Theek hai beta magar jaise hi tumhein lage ki tumhari tabiyat aur kharab ho rahi hai, tum mujhe phone kar dena mai ek dam se aa jaaonga.” (Alright. But as soon as you feel that your health is getting worse, call me and I’ll be there at once.)
After two hours, both father and daughter left for Khurana Hospitals. Anjali for Gyanecological ward and Ram for the Presidential Suite. There was a room attached to the patients ‘s private room in the Presidential Suite where Ranjit and Ram were sitting. Whereas Savitri Devi and Meera were sitting inside with Maan.
“Abb batta Ram, Lakshmi ko kya hua?” (Now tell me Ram what exactly happened to Lakshmi?)

“Ranjeete, yeh bahut lambi kahaani hai. Kuch tujhe bhi maloom hogi aur kuch nahi. Lakshmi..........” (This is a very long story. Some of which you would may know and some not. Lakshmi.......... )
(ALL NAMES ARE FICTITIOUS)
Ram started narrating. “Lakshmi had come to US for doing his Architecture and MBA from a US University, where we met. While studying he fell in love with a girl in our college much junior to him, who was a US citizen and of Indian origin, Mahalakshmi Garg. As his parents (India) were not happy with his relationship with Mahalakshmi because she belonged to a different cast than Lakshmi, they wanted him to return to India. Hence, Lakshmi decided to get married to Mahalakshmi and live in US for good as he was deeply in love with Mahalakshmi (Maha). Both Lakshmi and Maha were very happy and were soon blessed with twin daughters, Geetanjali and Kavyanjali.”
“Kya Khurana Hospitals ki Dr. Kavyanjali Mishra. Lakshmi ki beti hai?” (Is Dr. Kavyanjali Mishra who is working in Khurana Hospitals, Lakshmi’s daughter?)
“Haan.” (Yes.) Ram continued narrating. “As Lakshmi had refused to return to India as well as he married a US citizen, he was first given Green card and then US citizenship. As both Lakshmi and I were in US, we met as often as possible. Soon I also fell in love and got married to Priya. Like Lakshmi and I were best friends so were Mahalakshmi and Priya. Soon time started passing. After 19years, Lakshmi got news about his sick and dying parents. Unable to hold himself back any longer he rushed with his family to Muzaffarnagar (small town in state of Uttar Pradesh). Very soon after reaching Muzaffarnagar, Laksmi’s parents left for their heavenly abode in quick succession. Laksmi being the only child of his parents, their property was obviously left to Laksmi.
During next six months after Laksmi’s parents’ death, Lakshmi with his family was in Delhi. Geetanjali was doing a course from a college in Delhi as an Exchange Student. Mishras were very happy and Lakshmi was excited to show his wife and daughters his home and his country.Unfortunately fate intervened. Lakshmi’s first cousin (bua’s son), Surendra Sharma wanted Laksmi’s parents’ property by hook or crook. Hence with help of gangsters they tried to kill Lakshmi. Fearing for Lakshmi’s life, his wife, Mahalakshmi pressurised Lakshmi to return home (US) immediately! She also called me to come as soon as possible as Lakshmi’s life is in danger. The day we all were leaving for IGI Airport in New Delhi from Muzaffarnagar a disaster struck Lakshmi and his family. Lakshmi’s and Maha were in one car driven by a driver; and I with twins were in the other car. Lakshmi’s car was ahead of us with our luggage and our car behind. Suddenly we lost the sight of Lakshmi’s car for few seconds, next when we saw Lakshmi’s car, it was enveloped in a huge orange ball of fire. Thereby making me loose one of my closest friends and resulting in Geetanjali and Kavyanjali becoming orphans! Although it was never proven but we all were sure that it was not a normal car accident but a murder planned by Lakshmi’s cousin, Surendra Sharma and his son, Kulbhushan Sharma.” Ram paused for breath when he got a call from an unknown number but he answered it, “WHAT? Yes, Yes I’ll be there immediately. Can you please tell me Dr..........Ok, Ok, I’ll be there in 15 minutes.”
“Ram, kya hua? Kiska phone thaa?” (Ram what happened? Whose phone was it?)
“Kissi Dr. Vijayalakshmi Chandrashekhar. Woh keh rahi theen ki Guddo ward mein behosh ho gayi hai. Maine Guddo se kaha thaa ki aaj kaam par nahi jaaye kyunki usse kamzori ho rahi thi magar aaj kal ke bacche..........” (Someone by name of Dr. Vijayalakshmi Chandrashekhar. She was saying that Guddo fainted in the ward. I had forewarned Guddo not to come to work as she was feeling weak and listless since morning but youngsters now a days..........)
“Beta, aap chinta matt kariye. Jaayiye aap Anjali ka dhyaan rakhiye. Jab se usne Khurana Hospitals join kiya hai tabh se usne koi chutti nahi li hai. Iss liye aap usse ghar le jaaiye aur uski acchi tehre dekh-bhaal kijiye. Usse aapki aur aapki patni ki zarurat hai.” (Don’t worry son. You go and take care of Anjali. Since Anjali has joined Khurana Hospitals, she has not even taken one day off. Now you go and look after her. She really needs your and your wife’s love and tender care.) Unknown to Ram and Ranjit, Savitri Devi had heard whole family story about Kavyanjali. Coming to know the truth about Anjali’s family tree and Mishras’ economic status as well seeing as Anjali’s physical and mental strength, made Savitri Devi more determined to make Anjali, Maan’s bride. She was willing to battle with all the hurdles coming her way. The main inflexible hurdle being her favourite grandson, Maan Singh Khurana.
