Chapter 118
Dadima smiled brightly as she listened to Geet talking about her new classes, it’d been nearly over a month since Geet and Maan had left for Manchester and hearing Geet and Maan daily on the phone soothed her lonely self. She knew she’d given the right suggestion as Geet had started making effort to call her.
“Bete, now I’m going have to taste those dishes” dadima laughed, “Accha bete, Meera has just come back from work. Do you want to speak to her?” she asked knowing that Geet hadn’t yet talked to anyone else but her.
Geet contemplated for a moment, “Ji” she agreed.
Meera hurried over throwing her bag onto the sofa and took the phone from dadima, “Geet”.
“Hi” Geet mumbled softly.
“A month! A whole month!” Meera exclaimed. “Do you know how worried we are here?”
“I’m sorry” Geet apologised looking down at her feet as she mindlessly drew circles on the laminated floor with her toes. “I… I just wanted some space”
“You’re forgiven” Meera sighed leaning back on the sofa. “How are you? How’s Manchester?”
“I’m doing better” Geet responded, “I’ve started my cooking classes and Meers, I’ve learned how to make some new stuff. We’ve got these two couples that live next door, they’re really funny. Tanisha Rayyan lives next door” Geet told her.
“What? Tanisha Rayyan? The dessert chef who’d won that…”
“Yeah, she lives next door to us” Geet answered. “Her friend Sanjana lives across and she’s a professional dancer, she won a big competition as well” she added.
“Wow Geet, you’re living with the rich” Meera joked.
Geet chuckled, “How is work? How’s Vikrant’s show?” she asked.
“He’s doing well, he’s got a lot of fans. Too many” Meera responded.
“Jealous?” Geet giggled.
“A little” Meera laughed.
“How’s Amelia?”
“You should call her up and speak to her” Meera answered, “She’s become so busy she barely comes down to see any of us” she rolled her eyes.
“I’ll call her” Geet replied and they continued to chat for a while updating each other of their respective work and lives. After speaking for nearly two hours they’d finally said their bye and Geet dialled Amelia’s number but she didn’t answer. Each time it went straight to voicemail which got her wondering where would Amelia be at this time as it was most probably nearly 10pm in Delhi.
She decided she’d try a little while later and went to search for her husband, she found him in his study staring blankly into space.
Maan turned around hearing footsteps and offered a small smile to Geet, silently watching as she stepped inside and settled on the sofa with her laptop.
Geet had started an online course in business so she'd be able to earn extra credits and it'd look great on her cv.
He'd supported it and encouraged her, however he felt they were stuck in the middle somewhere.
Returning from work, Geet was busying herself in her course or she's trying to make new dishes.
With the new location, he'd found himself in a chaotic situation as well but he tried to be home for dinner.
Geet was occupied, however he felt this unseen distance coming between them and he didn't know how to close the bridge of this gap.
He watched from where he sat as Geet tapped away at her laptop, coming to a pause to jot something down in her notebook then return to typing.
Maan loved his wife very much, he loved her with his every bone, every nerve and he didn't think he'd be able to ever stop loving her. He placed his laptop aside moving towards the sofa, how long had it been since they shared a kiss? He couldn't remember.
A week after they'd moved to Manchester, they threw themselves into working and keeping themselves busy. He'd even had to go in at weekends due to the new location and missed out on spending his time with his wife to her weekend classes.
She had become friends with their neighbours which he was glad about but he missed his wife. He missed the quiet evenings they had in their bedroom where they'd spend endless amount of time talking, teasing, flirting and loving one another.
Geet titled her head noting her husband approaching her, a frown marred her forehead as he halted and lowered his head cradling her cheeks.
Maan pressed his lips to his wife's, caressing her cheek gently with his fingers and she'd slowly responded, though very slowly seemingly confused.
"What was that?" she asked breathlessly as he broke away and settled besides her.
"I just wanted to kiss you" he smiled.
She responded with a smile of her own though a very small and faint smile. Geet turned to her laptop, very aware of her husband's arm at the back of the sofa and mulled over her thoughts inwardly.
She noticed the silence of the apartment whenever she'd returned home from one of her classes. She was reminded of the silence of the hospital night when the room was supposed to be filled with her baby's cries, instead it was her cry.
The silence pierced her insides reminding her of the memories she'd left behind.
Yet, despite the struggle inwardly she didn't speak to her husband. She didn't tell him that whenever she sees his lips she's reminded of their daughter, she didn't tell him his fingers that so gently caresses her reminds her of their daughter, she didn't tell him that whenever he steps out of the washroom brushing his fingers through his thick hair reminds her of their daughter. She didn't tell him anything.
It wasn't that she didn't want to, it was she didn't know how to.
And unknowingly or knowingly she was distancing herself further away.
She was distracted when her phone started ringing, reaching out she grabbed her phone thanking whoever was on the other line for the distraction.
"Hello"
"Hey it's Sanjana, we're going out for lunch, want to join us?"
"Who's we?" a smile came far too easily.
"Me and Topaz obviously, who else? There isn't anyone else out there worthy enough for eating with, plus who else can I tease so much?" Sanjana laughed.
"Where are you going?"
"There's this new grill food place that's opened, Taz wants to try that".
"Yeah, sure" Geet agreed, she figured she could spend some time with them seeing as she doesn't have anything planned and she wasn't looking too pleased about being home.
Maan had heard the conversation and was disappointed hearing it.
He had finally managed to stay home this weekend and hoped he'd spend it with his wife but it seems she's now made plans. Plans; he wasn't a part of.
Geet glanced over her shoulder pressing a gentle peck to his cheek as she informed him she'd be going out with Sanjana and Taz for lunch and disappeared towards their bedroom.
"What the" Amelia gasped when she noticed Karan leaning against her car outside of her work place.
She hadn't seen Karan out of work before he'd done his working hours, he had his arms crossed, sunglasses hid his eyes which were the most telling part of him.
She glanced around wondering whether it'd be good to dodge him but then her colleagues were walking out, she didn't want to create a scene that could potentially get her fired.
"What are you doing here?" she approached her car calmly unlocking the door, as she climbed in, he walked around and climbed in the passenger side.
"Why are you avoiding me?" Karan looked at her in the hopes she'd finally give an answer. "Ames, we were all affected by... but that doesn't mean we cut people we love off"
"Just don't" Amelia shook her head glancing away and staring ahead. How could she tell him? She wasn't any better than his ex-girlfriend. If he'd hated girls before his ex, then he's surely going to hate them even more once he finds out. She closed her eyes clenching the steering wheel willing and begging for strength.
"Karan, please get out"
"I'm not f*cking leaving without a damn answer" he yelled gripping her arms and shaking her. "Why are you doing this to me? To us?"
She snapped open her eyes narrowing them, "I played you, okay? I f*cking played you. You said you wouldn't fall for anyone and like I told you - Amelia doesn't do the chasing" she informed bitterly.
His fingers loosened and he stared at the women who'd screamed out she'd liked him immensely.
"You're lying" he shook his head refusing to believe her words.
"Am I?" she challenged.
Maan headed towards his bedroom unable to work any longer, Geet had headed out a while ago and he could no longer concentrate on his work.
He paced their bedroom for a while wondering how he could mend their relationship but questioned himself, was there anything actual wrong? They were talking to one another - but it felt as if they were talking to strangers.
They still shared small kisses, majority of the times he'd initiated it and Geet was slow to reciprocate and seemed hesitant.
They still held one another when they climbed into bed at night, however by the middle of the night Geet had turned away and slept.
As he thought of their relationship more and more, it seemed like he was living with someone else and not his wife.
He groaned brushing a hand through his hair harshly cursing himself, he shouldn't be thinking like that.
It was going to to take more than a couple of months for Geet to adjust, they'd lost their baby and they were trying to still deal with the loss. He can't expect normalcy but seeing her with their neighbours made him yearn for his Geet.
Maybe he wasn't sleeping enough and thinking ridiculously, he tugged the blanket and climbed in, his hand sliding instinctively towards his wife's side and his fingers touched something.
He pulled it out from beneath her pillow and felt his heart drop. It was the sonogram of their child, Geet went to bed with their baby every night. She was holding onto their baby.
He brushed his fingers over their baby's small body and felt his slowly healing wounds reopening.
"I'm sorry for not saving you" he whispered, tears pooled in his eyes as he stared. "I'm so sorry" he held the picture to his chest recalling the birth of his daughter, remembering how soft she'd felt when he held her, she'd been so small in his very large arms. He was reminded of the heartbreak of his wife, his family, his dadima's dream shattering.
"Hello" dadima answered her phone.
"Dadima" Maan whispered.
Like a mother knows her son, dadima knew instinctively that her grandson was crying and in pain.
"I failed" he murmured. "I'm not able to put a smile on Geet's face"
"Maan..." she felt her heart beating faster and ache as she wasn't able to offer him solace, she wanted to take him in her arms and hug him tightly soothing him with comforting words and she couldn't do that from here.

Nice update. Is some thing wrong Amelia and is that why she is saying that she played with Karan. Maan and geet are drifting apart and not sure how to talk about the baby and what they felt. Hope they try to talk as everyone is worried about them back in India.
Awesome but emotional part as poor there relation is getting effective hope they speak there heart and start getting normal in there life again update soon 👍
I always thought that this situation will bring Maaneet together but never thought that there would be so much distance between them.
Some times I feel Dadima should go to London and help them like how she helped them in the beginning but sometimes I feel they should find their way towards each other on their own. Fully confused. Waiting to see how you will take their story forward.
Actually waiting for Geet to open up to Maan. 😭
What's up with Amelia? Why there is problems in both their love stories?
I miss those days when everyone was so happy and together.
Nice update..... Amelia or Karan ka patchup kab hoga....why she is saying that she is playing with him....maaneet not able to forget their daughter memory...geet distance making maan feeling low....
He is making afford to come close to geet... finally maan sharing his pain with dadima...hope everything will be fine soon....
Lovely update, my heart really goes for maan. And I so hate Geet for being so selfish, immersed in her pain she is giving pain to everyone who loves her. Maan, Dadi no one deserves it. They are also going through the same pain. Maan left everything and came with geet just to get her away from all the memories and pain and to start fresh. But geet is not willling to let go of the past and move. If she lost her baby maan also lost the baby, still he is trying to be a support pillar for her, but what she is doing trying to break that pillar with her agony. I hope geet get a reality check. And I want the whole family unite soon. What is with Amelia?? I hope everything will be sorted out sooner
V emotional update, think its time geet started to open up n understand maan's agony as well, she should not relate the baby's features to maan n keep him at bay....he is also suffering......she's making it hard for him rather being a support n comforting eachother......n amelia a new problem...y can't they speak out the problems n sort out mutually rather than creating suspicions n deciding by herself even for the other partner, let them decide things when it involves 2 lives.....waiting for the next
