Important encounters are planned by souls long before the bodies see each other - Paulo Ceolho
"Oh nooo Tara...you ok??", Geet was worried. Her brows knitted with worry and her eyes bulged with fear almost welled up seeing her friend's predicament. They were chit-chatting and having a native Raj Kachauri when suddenly Nain Tara started sneezing. She was becoming a bit dizzy and itchy. They even brushed it off and continued eating when her eyes reddened. That was the moment when Geet panicked. Gone was the calm and composed neurosurgen, when she saw her dear friend suffering. She fanned her with her hands and made her drink water. However in between her sneezes NT managed to calm Geet down, "It's nothing Geet. Al...aaahhchii...Allergy..aahchii..tablet..in my"
As she got into another fit of sneezes Geet got the medicine from NT's purse and made her swallow it. It was then the lioness in her woke up. This MK's place is so dead! She marched to the reception and took the menu card and skimmed through it. There it is. "Raj Kachouri".
She was still studying the description of Rajasthan's native Raj Kachouri with boiled chick peas, potatoes, mashed dahi bhalla, freshly boiled peas, onions all stuffed in a yummy ball.
Something in this dish was wrong and Geet Handa knew that! She racked her brain to find out the things her friend was allergic to. She was allergic to two things, eggs and WHITE PEPPER!!
Geet tasted the wretched kachoris intricately feeling and devouring every bite. There is white pepper in here! Who puts white pepper in Raj Kachori? And if so shouldn't they mention it in their menu card. Oh this place is so going down.
"Who is in charge here?", she barked at the hostess.
A well rounded lady in a neat red dress came towards her. She had thick eyebrows and plump lips which were adorned with red lipstick making her look elegant yet somehow professional at the same time.
"Yes ma'm, Sasha, I am the executive chef here. How can I help you?", she inquired with a customer friendly smile.
"Help me? You people better help yourself!! You added an ingredient that is not part of a dish and don't even mention it in the menu"
And then Geet went on to prove her point. Sasha's calm demeanor now started melting. People were staring at that table. Word was getting out and if MK came to know of this he would probably fire her. He was a zero error man and they all made sure of that when it came to work and this woman here, was talking nonsense about the things that she had no idea about. Of course they don't add unnecessary ingredients. MK was the one who made the recipes and he strictly ordered them to stick to that. He trained them personally especially executive chefs like herself who imparted the knowledge to the new trainees and there was zero margin for mishaps like this.
Sasha replied in a cold voice, "I am sorry ma'm but we didn't add any other ingredients. You must be mistaken. Isn't it possible she ate something else somewhere this evening."
Geet stood there wide-eyed looking at the audacity of this woman. She was not letting this go. NT who was now somewhat calm but too weak to speak anything just rested her head on the table.
Geet took the plate, "Let's check this sample then. We can decide afterwards!"
Sasha was really losing it now, "You can't do that mam. We cannot allow you take this food out without proper authority. What if you add white pepper later on."
Geet was agitated by these baseless remarks by Sasha, "What do you think I am? Some attention seeking gossip monger? My friend got sick because of your food! You guys are going to pay for this!"
The other staff had informed Aditya. By the time Geet and Sasha got into a heated arguement and she was shouting for the manager he was there as if out of nowhere.
"Ma'm, please calm down. We can sort this issue peacefully!"
"Peacefully! Your chef here threatened to jail me for false accusation" she pointed at Sasha who was now so furious that her cheeks were the same red as her dress.
Adi looked at Sasha questioningly, "Did you?"
"Her accusations are false!" Sasha shouted.
Geet now poked Adi with her finger, "Note down my name in your memory. Geet Handa! Dr. Geet Handa! First thing tomorrow morning I will go to food corporation and file complaint against your hotel and then to consumer court! And then when they seal this place you keep telling yourself that you should not have messed with Dr. Geet Handa!!"
It was then Adi realised that things had gone way out of hand and decided to call the boss.
"Maan sir, save us. Thi..thi this woman..says she will shut our restaurant...he he he sirrr", he somehow managed to speak to Maan.
"Adi! What's going on?" The firm voice of his boss stopped Adi's nervous laughter.
"Sorry sir but this woman is really threatening us", Adi replied in a rather composed tone.
"Who..which woman?"he inquired confining all his rage to his eyes in front of his dadima.
"A Geet Handa sir.Dr. Geet Handa" Adi replied nervously realising the anger at the other end of the line. Maan quickly moved out of the room well distant from dadima's reach and yelled "Adi, you know I cannot leave dadi. Can't you handle an angry customer?", Maan was impatient now. What was he paying them for?
"No sir, actually by the time I got here from Aeon things had gone out of hand. Sasha and this woman had a very bad fight it seems and now she is threatening to complain to the food corporation and sealing Convoy"
If fury were a person it would look like Maan Khurana now, "Sealing MY place! How dare she! What does this woman think of herself? Adi, what the hell went down there?"
And then Adi explained how the whole Raj Kachori debacle happened.
Maan listened carefully. He figured the woman spoke partly out of her worry for her friend. As much a man of principles he was, Maan Singh Khurana was a shrewd business man. He knew that if he played the front foot with his emotions right now, the matter would blow out of proportion but that doesn't mean some Dr. Geet Handa can walk in and talk rubbish about HIS recipe! He never added anything foreign to his Kachori especially in Convoy which focused on states and this was his very own native place, Rajasthan!
"Pass the phone to that woman Adi", he commanded. "Dr. Geet, please talk to our boss. HE runs this place,"Adi gave the phone thinking "ye to gayi."
"Listen Miss, I am really sorry about your friend"
The first sentence itself calmed Geet. There was something about the voice of this man, she thought that she believed him. He meant what he said. Geet listened as he continued, "These kind of mistakes never happen in my restaurants. I will look into it first thing in the morning and get back to you. And if you are not convinced, you can take that sample with you for further tests."
Geet twisted her lips unsure of what to say. She never felt this way. The voice on the other end was commanding and yet polite. If only this Sasha was half as polite as this man thought Geet, "No need for that Mr. MK. I will leave my number with your manager. You can contact me when you have this checked. It is not about the ingredient, all I want is a simple apology for the mishap. "
She didn't wait for the reply and handed over the phone to Adi and left with her friend. Maan fumed at her last words. "Mishap!" How judgmental!
He was being polite only because she was a customer and he didn't want this issue to be a mess while his next restaurant was going through approvals and tests by the government officials. Once he went to the restaurant and ensured that there was no mistake on his part, then he would show this Geet Handa who she messed up with!

Geet dropped NT to her home and helped her to sleep. By the time they were done and Geet reached her home, The Handa's it was half past twelve. It was a three storeyed house big enough situated in one of the posh residential societies of Preet Vihar G block. Geet somehow managed to open the back door by calling out one of their servants and tip toed through the living room to the stairs which led to her bedroom. She was about to get away when she heard her brother call her in a soft voice, "Geeet..."
Geet bit her lip. Her dadho was awake probably waiting for her. She walked slowly towards the direction of the voice and saw Rana working on his laptop sitting on the couch.
"Did you eat dinner?", he asked lovingly.
"ji dhadho. Did you?", Geet inquired worriedly.
Rana smiled at her concern. He gestured her to sit next to her. "How big have my little girl grown. You take so much care of everyone."
Geet blushed not knowing how to take the praise and rested her head on her brother's left arm which he kept spread on the neck of the couch.
"Soon you will go away from us and will have new people to take care of. And I know you will make us proud." Rana said more to himself still working on his laptop. Geet raised her head and frowned, "Why would you say that now, eh dhadho? I don't want to go!"
Rana shook his head and kept the laptop away. He looked at his baby sister and wondered how she shifted from a caring adult to a petulant kid next moment, "Hey kiddo, don't be upset. It is a fact and I am trying to convince myself with that. And if you need to blame anyone, blame Arjun. He was the one who started this topic tonight!"
Geet narrowed her brows. Ofcourse poor Arjun bhai was going to get his due in the morning.
"Why, has he had enough of me?", Geet complained.
Rana laughed, "You should have seen his face, how shocked he was today when someone came up with a proposal for you. The guy got lucky that he didn't get beaten up. And when he came home and told this to your bhabhi she was the one who made him understand that it was about time!"
"grrhhh..Anika bhabhi!! She is supposed to take my side!"
Rana petted her head lovingly, "She is. Which is why she told us the thing that your mother would have told us, he na..Anika too left her home to be our family."
Geet looked at Rana's peaceful face. He rarely talked about parents and it was at that moment Geet realised how serious her brother was. He had her full attention now, "Tell me. What kind of a guy would win your heart? Or have you met him already!"
Geet laughed, "Bhai don't you think it is very difficult for me to love a guy after seeing his brain out in the open!"
"Geet, I am not joking. Come on now!"he urged.
"As of now I haven't met anyone like that dadho. I don't even know what to expect from a man" she thought "a life partner?"
Rana made her look into his eye and asked, "Alright then, would you trust us with that decision?"
Geet nodded for a yes, "ji dadho"
