What were the chances that the person she disliked happened to appear in front of her once again? It was probably a one in million and that chance happened with her.

Why couldn't it be she had that chance with the damn lottery? But no, she had to have that chance with that arrogant man.

However, despite that man being arrogant, it was his words that had freed her from the shackles of the village and family.

Had it not been for him, she would've been dead by the hands of her own family.

She hadn't yet thanked him for it, but then he always had an attitude she reminded herself.

His head would go too big and he wouldn't be able to walk through the doors if she thanked him for all his help.

She still found it difficult to believe he was a teacher but she didn't spend any more time on that, instead she looked around for Kiara James who was supposed to tour her.

"Kiara James?" she asked looking down at the little woman by the small desk and a book in her hand.

"Who's asking?" Kiara lifted her nose from her book and looked questioningly.

"Geet Mishra, new teaching assistant to Mrs Singh" she introduced holding out her hand.

"Hmm" Kiara hummed shaking her hand. "Are you old enough to even work?" she looked curiously as she stood from her chair.

"I'm perfectly capable of working" Geet answered staring at the woman, the woman was small indeed, she was not even 5 feet.

"C'mon I'll show you around" Kiara gestured. "First things first though, Mrs Singh you don't want to make her angry or get onto her bad books. She is going to fire you. She's been here for years and they accept her attitude because she has a rich Mr Singh who donates and funds some extracurricular activities" she explained.

"And what makes Mrs Singh angry?" Geet asked. She needed this job.

"She doesn't like being questioned, she doesn't like interruptions. She hates latecomers, she can only write with certain pens. She loves her pentel permanent markers" Kiara rattled off.

"I should probably take notes" Geet murmured as she pulled out her notebook and jotted down the dislikes of Mrs Singh. Kiara hasn't yet mentioned many likes.

"Mrs Singh can be really nice if you don't annoy her" Kiara added. "During breaks, offer to make her a latte and she'd love you" Kiara informed. "We've got a machine which makes it, so you don't have to really make it" she added.

"Anything else?" Geet asked as she scribbled it down onto her notebook.

"Yes, don't ever gossip with her. Even if she starts it, don't agree or disagree. Just listen" Kiara stressed. "She'll talk behind others backs only to see how you respond, then she goes and tells that person that you talked about her. Sonya, the previous assistant agreed and added her own choice words, Mrs Singh went and told Mrs Agarwal about it. Sonya as you can guess was fired, she had two people against her".

"I feel like I'm joining the politics, not a school" Geet mumbled.

"Office politics" Kiara agreed. "It happens sweetness, a lot. Wherever you work, you'll find it"

"Anything else I should add?" Geet asked.

"No more for now, c'mon I'll show you around" Kiara answered then led Geet around the school and gave her a tour. She knocked on each class door and introduced Geet, many of the teachers greeted her warmly then she returned to the hallway and followed Kiara.

"Can I ask you something?" Geet looked at Kiara as they reached Mrs Singh class.

"Yeah, sure" Kiara nodded.

"You don't happen to know of any places that are cheap on rent do you?"

"Are you new here?" Kiara responded with a question of her own.

"Yeah, I'm new to the city" Geet nodded. "I'm currently staying at a friend's, but she lives with her boyfriend so I'm like a third wheel..." she trailed off.

"Oh, I see. I don't know but I've got some free time, I'll look around for you" Kiara smiled.

"Remember, introduce yourself. Look at her in the eyes and offer a smile. She likes people who smile" she explained then looked as Geet knocked on Mrs Singh's classroom door.

"Yes, come in" Mrs Singh called out.

Geet swallowed and shot a quick prayer for luck. "Good morning Mrs Singh, I'm Geet Mishra. Your new assistant" she entered the room looking at Mrs Singh with her head held high.

"Ah yes. Bridget mentioned that she was only doing interviews today though" Mrs Singh looked confused. "You must be really good if she hired you on the spot" she added. "Come in" she waved her over. Geet decided to keep quiet about being hired on the spot without an interview just in case this peeved off Mrs Singh and she's fired on the spot.

Geet instead smiled and walked over, she did notice however, the students looked amused.

They must be thinking I'm a sacrificial lamb like the others she thought inwardly.

"That's your desk in the corner" Mrs Singh pointed as Geet joined her side. Mrs Singh spared a glance to her students, "Open chapter 5 and start reading. I'll be quizzing you in 15 minutes time" she informed.

The students quickly opened the correct pages and started reading, not one student had looked up again nor looked around. They were all focused on the pages in front of them.

"Now, I'm sure Kiara told you all the horror stories she could find" Mrs Singh commented.

Geet didn't know whether she said yes or no, so she kept quiet.

"I won't bite your head off, girl" Mrs Singh rolled her eyes. "Kiara tell you about not answering back to me or something? Or did she tell you about how Mrs Agarwal and I got Sonya fired?"

She must know what Kiara says behind her back Geet thought but continued to keep quiet. She didn't want to get Kiara in trouble with her response.

"Sonya was fired because she had been stealing my personal stationery from my cupboard. Mr Singh always got me stationery souvenirs back from his trips and slowly they happened to go missing" Mrs Singh explained. "Not for whatever Kiara told you, she likes to scare new staff members because I am scary. Once you're scared, you wouldn't step out of place" she chuckled. "I also don't gossip, I hate it and I hate gossipers" she added.

Geet relaxed a little.

"Now once class is finished for a break, stay back so I can discuss my schedule and what you're going to do for me" Mrs Singh told her. Geet agreed with a nod of her head and retreated to her corner desk, she sat down and faced Mrs Singh and the students and watched as Mrs Singh straightened and asked the students to close the books and started quizzing them about the chapter they had just finished reading.
