"I think I'm feeling hot" Vikrant stood to his feet eyeing Geet from the corner of his eyes, she'd sat in the hall with her pending assignments completely unaware of her surroundings.
"It's so hot haina Bhabhi?" he nudged her playfully.
"Huh?" she frowned staring at him confused.
"I think I'm going to take my shirt off, it's too hot" he waved his hand in front of his already unbuttoning his shirt. Geet stretched her leg kicking him on his stomach knowing exactly what he was doing. He'd been teasing her for the last 2 days since that morning.
Vikrant laughed holding her foot tickling her.
"Vikrant" she whined trying to pull her feet back. "Leave me"
"Don't kick Bhabhi" he released her laughing loudly. "Damn it's so hot..." he shook the hem of his shirt winking at her mischievously.
"Dadima..." Geet whined noting her walking down.
"Kya hua bete?" Dadima walked over sitting down beside Geet frowning at Vikrant already knowing he was up to something.
"Tell Vikrant. I'm here trying to finish off my assignments and he's disturbing me" she complained innocently.
"Vikrant aap ko koi kaam nahi hai?" Dadima looked at him.
"Haan haina... Oh I just remembered Dadima..." He plopped down beside her. "Bhai and Bhabhi's first anniversary is coming. We have to have a party"
Geet stared between the both of them alarmed for a moment, the year had passed so quickly and such major changes had come into her life.
"Maan bete aap sahi waqt pe aaye hai" Dadima smiled widely as Maan had just walked in, he looked at Karan who looked confused just as him seeing Dadima so happy.
"What's up Dadima?" Karan questioned joining them with Maan.
"We're talking about keeping a party for bhai's and bhabhi's first anniversary" Vikrant explained.
Geet kept her gaze averted from Maan's slightly unsure of Maan's reaction, she concentrated on the words before her reading the same line over and over, she was sure the letters were dancing on the paper.
"Bete aap kya sochte hai?" Dadima looked at Maan for approval. "We couldn't celebrate your wedding properly nor let everyone know. No one at work even knows you're married"
"Dadima..." He sighed heavily rubbing his forehead uncomfortably. "I... If you want a party that's fine. But only family. Nothing big" he responded knowing if he thwarted their plans before they'd even started Dadima wouldn't let him hear the end of it plus she wasn't able to celebrate his wedding as she'd wanted. Also his wife would at least be assured of him accepting her in front of the others, they'd barely gone anywhere together in public. Their own families haven't seen the both of them together, so it'd be a nice way to assure his wife and somewhere himself...
"Sach?" Dadima looked at him surprised with his response, she was preparing herself already to hear him refuse and mentally jotting down everything to argue about but it seemed her grandson decided to surprise her happily.
"Yeah... Um sure" he nodded.
Geet looked up at him, she blushed when he looked back at her and averted her gaze from his, Maan smiled inwardly turning his head away, their small interaction didn't go amiss to Dadima. She knew of Maan's schedule and he hadn't been able to free himself for the last few days to make time for the both of them so she decided to take things into her own hands.
"Geet bete would you do me a favour?" she looked at her hopefully.
"Ji Dadima..." Geet nodded.
"I need you to pick me a couple of sarees I ordered from the mall. Aap jaake tayyar ho jaiye, Vikrant can drive you" she responded, Geet nodded in response gathering her things and left.
"Vikrant, go and find something else to do" she looked at him.
"What? You just told me..." He furrowed his brows in confusion.
"GO!" She scowled.
"Alright woman" he muttered.
Dadima smacked him with the magazine in her hand.
"Ouch Dadima" he whined rubbing his back.
"Jaiyye" she pointed to the door. "I don't want to see you home for the next hour"
"Dadima what was that?" Karan questioned.
"Kuch nahi... Right now that it's settled we'll be having a party, Maan I want you to take Geet and buy matching coloured clothes for it" Dadima ordered him.
"You know I don't know anything about clothes" Maan countered shaking his head.
"Jaiyye Maan" she pointed the rolled up magazine at him "Geet ko bhi bej rahi hoon" she scowled. "Woh aa rahi hai" she pointed to Geet who was climbing down the steps all ready.
"Geet bete..."
"Ji Dadima?" Geet walked over towards her.
"I sent Vikrant for something else, Maan will take you shopping. This is the purchase number for my saree that I ordered" she passed the receipt. "Just show it to the shop owner or assistant, they'd know" she explained.
"Ji Dadima" Geet nodded stealing glances of Maan's expression, unfortunately all he had was a straight face. She didn't know whether he was angry or alright, he could be busy to take her and Dadima was probably forcing him again she thought inwardly.
"Dadima I could take the car..." Geet suggested.
"It's okay Geet" Maan responded. "I'll take you, I've got something to do as well" he added standing to his feet, he rolled his eyes seeing Dadima smile at him mischievously, she was obviously already dreaming of the filmy scenarios she hoped that would take place.
"Nice Dadima" Karan laughed understanding her plan.
"Now about you..." she turned in her place. "Amelia ka haat kab Maan rahe hai?"
"Oh please don't start with that mad case" He rolled his eyes. "Nothing is ever going to happen here. I don't care about her, I don't even like her. She's the one running behind me"
"Amelia is very nice bete..."
"You would say that" he muttered. "Waise bhi I'm not interested"
"Karan bete..."
"Nope Dadima. I'm not getting married or anything. Khair I need to head home, Ma is waiting for me" he stood to his feet.
"Bring your mom here tomorrow, I need help with the organisation"
"I'll drop her off before I go to work" he replied.
"Oh when is your sister coming back from London?"
"Araina isn't coming till she finishes law school but she wants to start working right afterwards" he informs. "Mom wants her back, she's already chosen a guy for her"
Dadima chuckled. "I'll speak to your mom. She should enjoy her youth for now"
Karan hummed agreeing with her. "I'll see you tomorrow Dadima" he quickly excused himself and walked out bidding bye to her.
"Geet dadima wants us to buy clothes for the party" Maan told her as they collected Dadima's sarees. "She wants them to be at least similar in colour"
"Oh... Um okay" She shrugged.
Maan asked the salesman to show them sarees for Geet, both of them watched as the salesman pulled out saree after saree which would apparently look best for Geet.
"This saree is a perfect piece, it's one of the rare piece we have here, also a replica of the chammak challo saree maam" The salesman explained showing another red saree to Geet.
Maan frowned for a moment noticing Geet just looked completely uninterested, she continued to glance here and there as if searching for something but it wasn't here. Maybe she wasn't feeling comfortable to be shopping with him around... he thought to himself.
He turned to ask her whether she wanted to pick anything from this store or shall they head to another however he paused noticing her smiling as she eyed the toy store opposite, she giggled to herself at something but he wasn't sure if it was the little kid kicking and screaming or the teddy bear that squirted people with water who'd ever passed.
"Who are you laughing at?" Maan questioned gently not wanting to startle her.
Geet looked away embarrassed biting her lower lip. "Nothing" she shook her head. "Um... have you chosen anything?"
"No, um Dadima did say to pick something same" he shrugged. "I don't know anything about clothes or even dressing for the party" he explained looking at her sheepishly.
Geet giggled dipping her eyes down; she herself was just as clueless. "I don't know myself" she glanced at him looking guilty.
"I'll just tell Dadima to choose... um.." he checked the time on his watch. "I've got an hour before a dinner meeting, would you like to go anywhere else?" he asked her.
"I've got nothing to buy" she shook her head.
"Want to grab a coffee?" he suggested since he had nothing to do as well. He'd rather be doing something than sitting at home watching the clock tick waiting for an hour to pass.
"Sure..." Geet agreed. Maan lead her downstairs to the infamous caf in the mall telling her the staff here made the best coffee he'd tasted.
"I'm just going to head to the washrooms" Maan excused himself as they were on the way back to the parking lot, "Let yourself in the car" he passed her the keys, Geet thanked him and walked out whilst Maan went the other way.
"I'll take that from the display" Maan pointed telling the saleswoman.
"Yes sir" she nodded walking around and got the item from the display window. "Any card or anything else sir?" she questioned as she rung in the purchase on the till.
"No, just a gift bag" he replied.
She placed it in the bag telling him the price, Maan paid and took the bag exiting the shop, he wondered how he was going to hide it. When he reached the parking lot he walked from behind opening the trunk first and placed the bag then walked around the car getting into his seat.
"Thanks" he took the key that Geet passed.
Geet walked in with the shopping bag which held the two sarees that Dadima ordered for herself whilst Maan drew away.
"Maan kahan hai?" Dadima looked behind.
"Woh chale gaye. He had a dinner meeting scheduled" she replied. "Yeh lijiye Dadima aapke saree" she placed the bags down on the coffee table and pulled them out. "They're so pretty"
"Thank you bete" Dadima smiled. "Where is yours?" she questioned with a frown.
"Oh... Dadima why don't you choose? I didn't want anything, there's nothing nice"
"Geet aap bhi na... Last time I had to make you buy one saying it was for Riya"
"Par dadima I honestly didn't like anything" she explained.
"Sirf bahana hai yeh sab" she muttered. "Khair main Meera aur Ameera ko bej dungi aapke aur Maan ke kapre choose karne ke liye" she added.
"Teek hai... Main aaj khana banaungi" Geet told her. "Main fresh hokar aati hoon"
Dadima nodded and checked out the sarees she'd ordered for herself.
"Kya banaya hai?" Dadima asked walking in and looked around.
"It's gone rubbish" Geet pointed to the lasagne she'd tried making in. It looked like a mess in the baking bowl. "It's soggy"
"Koi baat nahi hai bete" Dadima patted her shoulder lovingly. "Aaj hum bahar se mangwa lenge" She grabbed the phone making a call to Maan to pick up some dinner for them.
"Aap jaake change karlo" she pointed to Geet's dress which was stained.
"Geet" Maan knocked on her door once he returned home, he'd learned she was in her room and now it seemed the best time to give it to her.
"Aayi" she called back rubbing her wet hair with the towel. She grabbed her dupatta covering her neck and opened the door. "Ji?"
"Um... Woh... I got this for you" he held the gift bag in front of her.
"Yeh..." Geet looked at him confused, her heart pounding slightly taking the gift.
"Um... its just a little something... it's stupid" he muttered now feeling weird for buying it.
Geet shook her head, she was a little overwhelmed receiving a gift from her husband, she reached into bag and slowly pulled out the item, her eyes widened in recognition, she swallowed hard glancing at Maan for a moment before looking back at the present.
"Um... I kind of wasn't sure..." Maan muttered shifting his feet.
"It's the best gift I've received" she whispered, her voice laced with emotion.
"Aap... aap ko kaise pata.." she mumbled.
"I kind of took a guess" he chuckled nervously. "Either you were watching the boy crying or the water squirting teddy in the display window"
"Thank you... It's... I love it" she responded softly.
"Anyways I've brought dinner, dadima wants you to come down" he told her.
She hummed in response, Maan waited unconsciously by the door, she placed the teddy on her bed and walked out. Together they walked down making dadima light up, she watched them in longing loving the sight of them so comfortable together, in the past year they'd come so far, from Maan hating the sight of his wife to him now spending time with her at any given opportunity.
"Yeh lijiye aapka coffee" Dadima pointed as they settled on the table, since Maan had ate he'd refused dinner wanting to just have a coffee.
"Accha Maan bete yeh aap aur Geet ke liye" Dadima passed him an envelope looking down at her plate as she started eating.
"What is it dadima?" he asked her curiously opening the envelope.
"It's the 6 session dance class card I ordered" she replied looking up slowly, Geet furrowed her brows staring confused wondering what she meant.
"I want you and Geet to take these classes before the anniversary party, I want to see you both dance at least once" she explained.
"You want what?" Maan looked at Dadima shocked putting his cup down forcefully on the table.
"You heard me Maan. I want you and Geet both going to these dance classes"
"Do I look like some gay twat?" He responded sternly, Geet giggled beside him unable to help herself. "It's seriously not funny" he looked at her.
"Um... woh..." she looked at Dadima for help.
"Maan you and Geet are going! When you can take her to skate like those frozen character, why can't you take her dancing?" she countered. "You didn't mind being a gay twat' then"
"Dadima... that..." He muttered tightly.
"Maan aap..." Dadima went on complaining, Geet looked between them as they argued over the booked classes, she chewed on her lip nervously noting how upset dadima seemed.
"Hum chale jaayenge dadima" She cut in quietly, Maan gaped at her stunned, whilst dadima grinned widely.
Geet cleared her throat nervously, she quickly finished and stood up walking into the kitchen, she yelped in surprise when she turned around and found Maan standing there.
"Dance classes?" Maan quirked his brows up.
"Um... Woh Maan... Dadima was getting upset" she muttered. "Sirf dance classes hi toh hai..." she squeaked out. "It can't be that bad"
Two days later they stood in the room as the dance teacher explained to them about the dance form they were going to do.
"You were saying?" Maan whispered softly lowering his head closer to hers. Geet gulped shifting in her place uncomfortably as the teacher and his assistant did the tango and it involved a lot of body touching.
"Maan" she squeaked out inching closer to him.
"Hmm?" he looked down at her.
"Hum kahin aur chal sakte hai?" she requested looking at him terribly scared.
"Dadima wouldn't approve" Maan sighed. "I'll speak to them instead" he told her.
Maan took the dance instructor aside explaining they didn't want to learn such a dance form, they wanted a simple dance for the sake of just a couple dance, nothing more.
"Tango is a simple dance form, a little hard but it is a beautiful dance form sir" The instructor replied. "It's a very beautiful form which innocently seduces the other half, the slow then fast movements bring passion into the dance" he responded passionately.
Maan looked at him unsurely and was very uncomfortable. "Well... I don't want to dance to seduce my wife" he countered quietly. "Just... a small couple dance. Something circle, without the lifts and whatever else you were doing" he waved.
"But sir..." The instructor frowned.
"But nothing, either teach that or I'll find another instructor" Maan threatened.
"Yes sir..." he agreed then decided to teach them soft contemporary.
