CHAPTER 14

Location : FARM HOUSE IN CHATTARPUR, OUTSKIRTS OF DELHI 8:00pm.
The whole place was beautifully decorated. Pinky's friends were in a teasing mood hence they started dancing in Pinky's room by teasing her. Meera and Geet teased Pinky by singing, "Koi shehri babu..."

Along with Meera and Geet, Gauri and Khushi also joined in. Just then seeing a conservatively dressed young lady in her late twenties and early thirties Pinky called, "Sameera didi, aap bhi aaye naa. Humare saath naachiye aur gaayiye." (Sameera didi, you also join us and dance with us.)
"Nahi tum ladkiyaan nacho-gaao mai Mausiji ki madatt karthi hoon. Agar tumhei pareshaani naa ho toh Ayush ko apne saath rakh lo." (No you girls dance and sing, I will go and help Rajeshwari aunty. If its not a problem for you, can I leave Ayush with you girls?) (PLEASE SEE THE CS)
"Haan! Haan! Kyun nahi Didi aap araam se jaayiye. Hum Ayush ko sambhal lenge. Kyun champ? Humare saath rahoge naa?" (Yes, Yes why not? We will look after Ayush. You will stay with us champ?) Geet piped in.
"Haan Geet Mausi!" (Yes Geet Aunty.)
"Sameera, Ayush ko apne saath le jaao. Mai nahi chahti ki koi bhi Rajsinghania parivaarwala Sameera aur Ayush ke paas aaye." (Sameera, take Ayush with you. I don't want anyone from Rajsinghania family to come near Ayush.) Rajeshwari who had just entered said icily.
Once Sameera and Ayush left, Geet spoke, "Auntyji, aakhir Rajsinghania parivaar ne aapka kya bhigada hai? Kyunki jab bhi mai yahaan aati hoon aap mujhe jali-katti sunnati hain!" (Aunty, what has Rajsinghania family done to you that you are always rude and disrespectful to me?)
"Mera nahi. Sameera aur Ayush ki poori zindagi tehas-nehas kar di." (They have not done anything to me but have destroyed Sameera and Ayush's life!)
"Kisne Sameera didi aur Ayush ki poori zindagi tehas-nehas kardi hai?" (Who has destroyed Sameera and Ayush's life?)
"RISHABH RAJSINGHANIA!" Rajeshwari's answer shocked Geet, Gauri and Pinky.
As it was time for Sangeet, Savitri Devi came to call Rajeshwari unaware of the tense environment she had intruded. Remembering her responsibility, Rajeshwari soon left with Savitri Devi for the Sangeet's venue. Ladies gathered around and started singing and dancing to the rhythmn of "dholak" waiting for men to arrive.
Seeing women's excitement men and young boys also trickled in making the atmosphere full of fun and frolic. Soon the program started. Vicky was the master of ceremonies introducing and explaining about the program in Hindi and Karan was introducing and explaining about the program in English, much to Maan's anoyance. Today whole Rajsinghania clan was present unaware of the unpleasantness that happened half an hour back between
Rajjo and Geet. Krishankant was a very close friend of Pritam Manchanda, Pinky's father. Hence, Krishankant, Radharani, Rishabh, Neel, Yash, Veer and Sid along with Geet were present. Maan happened to bang into Arnav while stalking Geet. Maan was extremely surprised to see Arnav wearing an Indian outfit
as Arnav was uncomfortable in traditional Indian setting and in Indian customs. Maan realised how close Manchandas were with Rajsinghanias after seeing all Rajsinghanias present. Along with the Rajsinghania clan there were another two young ladies whom Maan didn't recognize. Seeing Maan Rishabh came near Maan and Arnav and said, "Maan inse milo, yeh hai meri behan Gauri aur yeh uski mauseri behan Khushi." (Maan this is my sister Gauri and her cousin, Khushi.)

Both the young women were about to touch Maan's feet when he jumped back horrified, "Yeh tum log kya kar rahi ho?" (What are you both doing?)
"Maan, Gauri aur Khushi chote shehar se hain aur wahaan apne se badhon ke pair chute hain." (Maan, Gauri and Khushi belong to small town. Where youngsters touch feet of anyone elder to them as a sign of respect.)
"Magar mai naa toh kissi ke bhi saamne jhukta hoon aur naa hi chahta hoon ki koi bhi ladki yaa aurat mere saamne jhuke kyunki..." (But I don't like bending in front of anyone. Neither do I like any girl or lady bending in front of me because...)
"Mahodiya, aap phir aa gayeen hummein aur humari gudiya ko pareshaan karne. Agar aapne yahaan se turant prasthaan nahi kiya toh hum... (Madamoiselle you have again come to trouble my Gudiya and me. If you don't depart from here immediately, I wil...)
"Toh aap kya karenge? Yeh grah aapka nahi hai. Aap kewal mehmaan hain humari tehara. Aur iss liye aapki marzi yahaan nahi chalegi. Aap toh..." (Then what will you do? This is not your home. You are only a guest like me. So your command will not work here. You are...)
"Neelkanth aur Gauri agar tum dono phir se lade toh mai Baba ko batta doonga." (Neelkanth and Gauri if you again start fighting, I will complain to Baba.) Rishabh said sternly quitening the two. "Neel aur Arnav, inse milo yeh hain Khushi Kumari Gupta, Gauri ki mauseri behan." (Neel and Arnav, come and meet this young lady. This is Khushi Kumari Gupta, Gauri's cousin.)
"Pranam Devi!" Neel said with folded hands.
"Hi!" Arnav said.
Khushi said with folded hands,"Pranam!"
Arnav muttered under his breath, "Another traditional orthodox damsel. I'm fed up." Arnav left in irritation. Rishabh and Neel didn't hear Arnav but Maan did. Maan followed seeing Arnav furious and ready to explode. Once they were outside in a secluded area, Maan broached the topic, "Arnie, what's wrong? I'm seeing you perturbed since you arrived. Something bothering you?"
"No nothing Maan."
"If you feel comfortable you can share it with me?"
First Arnav became stiff but then relaxed and said, "Maan, I don't know why in India everyone is so old fashioned as if still living in times of British rule. Our elders still look for a traditional guy or girl as the case maybe instead of modern, supportive and broad minded person."
"What do you mean?"
"I tried getting my sister, Geet married to a smart and well settled boy in the US, Karan but they don't like him. Now they are using emotional blackmail to make me change my mind and break Geet's alliance with Karan."
"Does Ms. Rajsinghania like this guy Karan?" Maan spoke from in between his clenched teeth. Maan's jealousy, possessiveness and insecurity had already risen his defences just by hearing Karan's name.
"Yes she does immensely but only as a friend not as a life partner. She was the one who had suggested to let everyone at home think about Karan as her prospective fiance so she is not paraded in front of other weirdos that my family is selecting."
Maan relaxed slightly knowing that Geet is not actually engaged to Karan. But he was still insecure. He tried calming Arnav down by saying, "Arnie, I'm no one to say who is right and who is wrong but the only thing I can say is that in India, marriage is not between two individuals but two families, also in India marriage is meant for life and thought of divorce is abhorred. Hence parents feel that if a boy or a girl belongs to a family with Indian values they will adjust better and try to make their marriage last. Which becomes very difficult if both have extremely westernized ideas i.e. If both of them have parties with their respective friends late every night, or go out of city with their friends, then who will look after the home and take care of children etc. However, I don't agree with this concept hence till the age of 33..."
"Maan and Arnie, come the Sangeet has started. Dadimaa and Maa are soon going to dance."
"What? Dadimaa can't dance? Her blood pressure?"
"Mom, can't dance, her leg sprain got well last week."
Maan and Arnie rushed from there to stop their respective grandmother and mother. Whereas Rishabh stood there giving a contented smile, "Aakhir mujhe meri Gudiya ke liye dulaah mil hi gaya." (Finally I have found a bridegroom for my Gudiya.)
Rishabh had joyful tears in his eyes which was noticed by a person standing far away having love shimmering in her eyes.
Her blissful sight was broken by a child's voice, "MAAA!"
First dance was done by Rajeshwari & Sulochana being bride & bridegroom's mother respectively. They danced on song "Thoda, thoda pyaar hua ..."

After the dance of bride & bridegroom's mothers. Next dance was of Savitri Devi & Radharani. Maan and Arnie reached late and their respective grandmother and mother were already on stage shaking their legs to ---
"Kajra mohabbatwala ankhiyon mein aisa dala..."

The dance finished to a roaring applause. Whereas furious Maan and Arnav climbed on the stage much to the surprise of the gathered audience and dragged their respective grandmother and mother off stage. They were about to yell on their respective grandmother and mother but were stopped.
There appeared on stage a vision of loveliness in cream and gold lengha and her hair tied in a loose bun outlined with jasmine flowers called "gajra". She was wearing pure gold jewellery making her look as pure and innocent like the jasmine flowers in her hair. Geet went down the stage with Meera, Gauri, Khushi and other girls and brought Adi and Pinky on stage
and made them sit on a sofa and all girls surrounded them and danced to, "Jinke aage ji jinke peeche ji... "

Geet was the main dancer surrounded by other girls. Despite of wearing a sober coloured lengha compared to the other girls in bright coloured lengha, she over shadowed the other girls due to her graceful dance and beauty. Maan who was not much interested in the Sangeet after he managed to get his grandmother off the stage was spell bound seeing his wife's graceful dance and beauty. He felt as if she was a Swan gliding gracefully in a pond full of colourful flowers. Here the girls were teasing Adi by doing a drama of what will happen to him if he ever misbehaved with Pinky. Amusing the audience and Pinky. Adi was extremely embarassed but in his heart was happy to see how loving and affectionate Pinky's cousins and friend's were towards Pinky and him. As soon as Adi's saalis (Pinky's cousins and friends) finished their dance, Vicky jumped on the stage pulling Meera with him. He started dancing to "Baby ko bass pasand hai..."

Trying to impress Meera with his dancing. Though Meera was irritated and embarassed with his this act but seeing the occasion and the surrounding atmosphere she joined in the dance. But as soon as the dance finished she left the Sangeet premises in anger.
