Geet frowned looking around the restaurant they arrived it, it wasn't the usual place she'd come out to with Vikrant or her friends, it was something totally out of her comfort zone. Everyone here seemed quite upmarket and dressed down to the nines.
She looked down at her dress and even caught a glace of herself as they passed the mirror and felt underdressed, Vikrant appeared beside her smiling widely.
"You look good bhabhi" he commented. "But seriously stop staring at yourself too much, you look awkward" he chuckled.
"Is this some business dinner or something? Where did you bring us?" she asked quietly.
"Don't even ask me, ask bhai. Only he will choose places like this for dinner" he replied.
She looked over her shoulder catching a glance of Maan and looked ahead, he was tailing behind with Karan. Meera and Amelia were busy looking around in awe and gushing to each other about the place.
"You're sitting next to me" Vikrant gripped Meera's wrist tugging her beside him as they were all showed to the table they'd booked.
Amelia slipped into the chair Geet was going for wanting to sit next to Karan, she winked at Geet who scowled down at her. Geet slowly looked at the place beside Maan and pouted, she walked around and slipped in passing a faint smile uncomfortable as Maan watched her in amusement.
"So what shall we order?" Vikrant questioned grabbing the menu. "What will you have beautiful?"
"Your head on a platter" Meera replied earning a few chuckles from the others, she rolled her eyes grabbing herself a menu. Everyone else did the same. Once their orders were taken they sat in an awkward silence wondering what to say.
A moment later Vikrant was chatting away with Amelia starting up a conversation with Karan who was finding her quite amusing yet annoying at the same time. Geet tapped her fingers against the table looking everywhere but at Maan. She did however steal a few glances wondering if he'd mention last night's incident. It wasn't as if she'd done it on purpose.
"Bhabhi why are you so quiet for?" Vikrant questioned turning his attention to Geet, she frowned and felt shy suddenly with everyone turning their heads to her.
"Why don't you leave her alone?" Karan responded instead.
"Why don't you just back off?" Vikrant replied. "She has got a mouth"
"Enough" Maan scowled. "Vikrant mind your own business"
Karan smirked leaning back in his chair and looked at Amelia who smiled, he inwardly rolled his eyes and looked away.
Maan turned his head to Geet, she was biting down on her lip and kept fidgeting by his side, he wondered whether it was because of him she was nervous or the fact that everyone had really overcrowded the table. The food arrived and everyone was distracted with their meals, Geet dipped her head down staring at her started which turned out to be prawns on a bed of rocket salad. She hadn't thought her sea salad was going to be this, she looked around and noted everyone had started eating their starters, her eyes drew to Maan who looked at her.
"You okay?" he questioned softly. "Do you want to change it?"
"I... I'm fine" she murmured.
"You can ask for it to get changed Geet" Maan responded. "Do you want to change it with me?" he asked pointing to his plate which was a chicken starter.
She shook her head grabbing her knife and fork, she decided to have only the salad and leave the prawns, Maan looked at amused and dug into his started, he forked a few chicken and plopped it onto her plate, she stared at him surprised whilst Maan only gestured with his eyes for her to eat.
"So Karan what do you do?" Amelia questioned starting up a conversation.
"I don't talk to strangers" he replied whilst everyone else gaped at his response.
"Why are you so rude for?" Vikrant frowned. "He's a hermit Ames so you have to excuse his manners" Geet chuckled whilst Karan narrowed his eyes on Vikrant.
"You're quite rude and arrogant" Amelia shifted closer whispering softly so only he heard. Geet stared intently wondering what Amelia was saying to Karan.
"And you back off" Karan retorted narrowing his eyes at her. "I know what's going in that head of yours but it's not happening"
"A little note to be noted. - The universe doesn't revolve around you. Your brother's hotter than you"
"He's married to your best friend"
"Exactly, that's why I'm not moving onto him" she replied mockingly.
"You look at my cousin I'll wring that skinny neck of yours"
"Do you think they're flirting?" Meera asked gaining Vikrant and Geet's attention, Maan only looked away inwardly shaking his head at their thoughts.
"Knowing Karan he's probably giving her shit" Vikrant replied chuckling.
"And knowing Ames she's probably doing the same" Meera agreed.
"Don't you think you should stop them before plates go flying?" Geet questioned, she knew Karan had a temper and her friend was no less.
"It's going to be amusing and plus a bonus on this night" Meera laughed. "By the way your husband picks out boring places" she pointed out.
"Don't say anything to me" she muttered. I didn't know. She thought to herself.
"You're not talking?" Karan turned his head away from Amelia bored of her bickering and looked at Maan.
"Why don't you pay attention to your admirer?" Maan replied inwardly rolling his eyes.
"Don't talk to me about that witch. And by the way she fancies you" Karan pointed out.
"We should've got separate tables" Maan replied. "And not invited these two clowns"
"With bhabhi comes her friends" Karan teased.
"With her, comes your new lover" Maan countered.
"Bro" Vikrant called across the table interrupting them. "Everyone's finished with their starter, call our waiter" he pointed. Maan waved the waiter down and their plates were taken and replaced with their main meals. Everyone dug into their meals with a friendly lighter conversation between Vikrant, Meera, Amelia and Geet whilst Karan and Maan conversed with each other regarding their business.
"Is that really all they talk about?" Amelia whispered softly having listened to them quite a few times.
"Don't even ask" Vikrant replied. "You should hear them in the office, all it is blue prints, meetings, marketing value blah blah blah... I feel sorry for you" he turned his head pitying Geet as he sipped his drink.
"Why?" she frowned in curiosity placing her fork and knife down having finished eating.
"Well you are going to work with Karan" he replied. "Imagine working with a robot. Bhai would've been better"
"Your brother is no less" she muttered and clamped her lips shut when she noted Maan staring at her in surprise, Vikrant noted her looking to her side and guessed what had happened. Maan had overheard. Vikrant burst out laughing, Amelia and Meera seemed to guess as well and joined in, Geet dipped her head down blushing furiously, she couldn't bring herself to look at anyone. Maan blinked a couple of times and thought of her words, he was surprised to even know Geet compared him to a robot. He cleared his throat feeling embarrassed and turned his head away. Right now he was speechless, it would be awkward if he shouted at them in a restaurant full of people and Geet refused to look his way.
"Oh look at that" Amelia pointed. "There's a dance floor. Vikrant dance?" she questioned.
"Nope, I'm booked" he replied taking Meera's hand and guided her from the table.
Amelia tapped Karan's shoulder, he turned his head to her staring at her with a bored expression.
"Yes?"
"Dance" she pointed. "I need a partner"
"Why don't you go yourself?" he replied.
"Because it's a couple song" she pointed. "So I need you"
"I'm not d... Ow" Karan turned his head scowling at Maan.
Maan narrowed his eyes silently telling him to leave, Karan understood and cursed beneath his breath and looked back at Amelia.
"Sure" he forced himself to smile and stand, Amelia grinned winking at Geet and waited.
"Good luck" Karan whispered softly to Maan then smirked turning to face Amelia, he shot Amelia a disgusted look which she'd missed and led her away. Geet turned away when Maan looked at her, she kept her eyes focused on the other diners playing with her fingers. She wondered if he'll pick out her robot comment or throwing him into the pool.
"Geet" Maan called gently to which she pressed her eyes closed.
"Hmm... J... ji" she mumbled incoherently. "Um... Sorry" she rambled on without letting him respond.
"Huh?"
"For saying robot and pushing you into the pool" she continued. "I didn't mean to, woh Vikrant was saying I won't..." She stammered mumbling whatever came to her mouth.
"Wait" Maan held up his hand. "What are you apologizing for?" he questioned missing what she was saying since she mumbled and stammered her entire sentence.
"Robot" she muttered. "And pool"
Maan looked at her in amusing surprise and laughed shaking his head inwardly, Geet frowned pouting, her heart was racing rapidly and here he was laughing whilst she'd been scared wondering what he'll be doing.
A soft smile tugged her lips, she looked down embarrassed wringing her fingers together squirming in her chair, Maan looked at Geet smiling faintly.
"I... I wanted to speak about your work" Maan spoke gently, Geet looked up staring at him curiously. "I... I was thinking you won't liking with Karan so why don't you work for my company?" he finally asked despite his hesitance, he only hoped she accepted.
"Ji??" she stared at him in disbelief.
