Chapter 22

Geet frowned looking around the restaurant they arrived it, it wasn't the usual place she'd come out to with Vikrant or her friends, it was something totally out of her comfort zone. Everyone here seemed quite upmarket and dressed down to the nines.

She looked down at her dress and even caught a glace of herself as they passed the mirror and felt underdressed, Vikrant appeared beside her smiling widely.

"You look good bhabhi" he commented. "But seriously stop staring at yourself too much, you look awkward" he chuckled.

"Is this some business dinner or something? Where did you bring us?" she asked quietly.

"Don't even ask me, ask bhai. Only he will choose places like this for dinner" he replied.

She looked over her shoulder catching a glance of Maan and looked ahead, he was tailing behind with Karan. Meera and Amelia were busy looking around in awe and gushing to each other about the place.

"You're sitting next to me" Vikrant gripped Meera's wrist tugging her beside him as they were all showed to the table they'd booked.

Amelia slipped into the chair Geet was going for wanting to sit next to Karan, she winked at Geet who scowled down at her. Geet slowly looked at the place beside Maan and pouted, she walked around and slipped in passing a faint smile uncomfortable as Maan watched her in amusement.

"So what shall we order?" Vikrant questioned grabbing the menu. "What will you have beautiful?"

"Your head on a platter" Meera replied earning a few chuckles from the others, she rolled her eyes grabbing herself a menu. Everyone else did the same. Once their orders were taken they sat in an awkward silence wondering what to say.

A moment later Vikrant was chatting away with Amelia starting up a conversation with Karan who was finding her quite amusing yet annoying at the same time. Geet tapped her fingers against the table looking everywhere but at Maan. She did however steal a few glances wondering if he'd mention last night's incident. It wasn't as if she'd done it on purpose.

"Bhabhi why are you so quiet for?" Vikrant questioned turning his attention to Geet, she frowned and felt shy suddenly with everyone turning their heads to her.

"Why don't you leave her alone?" Karan responded instead.

"Why don't you just back off?" Vikrant replied. "She has got a mouth"

"Enough" Maan scowled. "Vikrant mind your own business"

Karan smirked leaning back in his chair and looked at Amelia who smiled, he inwardly rolled his eyes and looked away.

Maan turned his head to Geet, she was biting down on her lip and kept fidgeting by his side, he wondered whether it was because of him she was nervous or the fact that everyone had really overcrowded the table. The food arrived and everyone was distracted with their meals, Geet dipped her head down staring at her started which turned out to be prawns on a bed of rocket salad. She hadn't thought her sea salad was going to be this, she looked around and noted everyone had started eating their starters, her eyes drew to Maan who looked at her.

"You okay?" he questioned softly. "Do you want to change it?"

"I... I'm fine" she murmured.

"You can ask for it to get changed Geet" Maan responded. "Do you want to change it with me?" he asked pointing to his plate which was a chicken starter.

She shook her head grabbing her knife and fork, she decided to have only the salad and leave the prawns, Maan looked at amused and dug into his started, he forked a few chicken and plopped it onto her plate, she stared at him surprised whilst Maan only gestured with his eyes for her to eat.

"So Karan what do you do?" Amelia questioned starting up a conversation.

"I don't talk to strangers" he replied whilst everyone else gaped at his response.

"Why are you so rude for?" Vikrant frowned. "He's a hermit Ames so you have to excuse his manners" Geet chuckled whilst Karan narrowed his eyes on Vikrant.

"You're quite rude and arrogant" Amelia shifted closer whispering softly so only he heard. Geet stared intently wondering what Amelia was saying to Karan.

"And you back off" Karan retorted narrowing his eyes at her. "I know what's going in that head of yours but it's not happening"

"A little note to be noted. - The universe doesn't revolve around you. Your brother's hotter than you"
"He's married to your best friend"

"Exactly, that's why I'm not moving onto him" she replied mockingly.

"You look at my cousin I'll wring that skinny neck of yours"

"Do you think they're flirting?" Meera asked gaining Vikrant and Geet's attention, Maan only looked away inwardly shaking his head at their thoughts.

"Knowing Karan he's probably giving her shit" Vikrant replied chuckling.

"And knowing Ames she's probably doing the same" Meera agreed.

"Don't you think you should stop them before plates go flying?" Geet questioned, she knew Karan had a temper and her friend was no less.

"It's going to be amusing and plus a bonus on this night" Meera laughed. "By the way your husband picks out boring places" she pointed out.

"Don't say anything to me" she muttered. I didn't know. She thought to herself.

"You're not talking?" Karan turned his head away from Amelia bored of her bickering and looked at Maan.

"Why don't you pay attention to your admirer?" Maan replied inwardly rolling his eyes.

"Don't talk to me about that witch. And by the way she fancies you" Karan pointed out.

"We should've got separate tables" Maan replied. "And not invited these two clowns"

"With bhabhi comes her friends" Karan teased.

"With her, comes your new lover" Maan countered.

"Bro" Vikrant called across the table interrupting them. "Everyone's finished with their starter, call our waiter" he pointed. Maan waved the waiter down and their plates were taken and replaced with their main meals. Everyone dug into their meals with a friendly lighter conversation between Vikrant, Meera, Amelia and Geet whilst Karan and Maan conversed with each other regarding their business.

"Is that really all they talk about?" Amelia whispered softly having listened to them quite a few times.

"Don't even ask" Vikrant replied. "You should hear them in the office, all it is blue prints, meetings, marketing value blah blah blah... I feel sorry for you" he turned his head pitying Geet as he sipped his drink.

"Why?" she frowned in curiosity placing her fork and knife down having finished eating.

"Well you are going to work with Karan" he replied. "Imagine working with a robot. Bhai would've been better"

"Your brother is no less" she muttered and clamped her lips shut when she noted Maan staring at her in surprise, Vikrant noted her looking to her side and guessed what had happened. Maan had overheard. Vikrant burst out laughing, Amelia and Meera seemed to guess as well and joined in, Geet dipped her head down blushing furiously, she couldn't bring herself to look at anyone. Maan blinked a couple of times and thought of her words, he was surprised to even know Geet compared him to a robot. He cleared his throat feeling embarrassed and turned his head away. Right now he was speechless, it would be awkward if he shouted at them in a restaurant full of people and Geet refused to look his way.

"Oh look at that" Amelia pointed. "There's a dance floor. Vikrant dance?" she questioned.

"Nope, I'm booked" he replied taking Meera's hand and guided her from the table.

Amelia tapped Karan's shoulder, he turned his head to her staring at her with a bored expression.

"Yes?"

"Dance" she pointed. "I need a partner"

"Why don't you go yourself?" he replied.

"Because it's a couple song" she pointed. "So I need you"

"I'm not d... Ow" Karan turned his head scowling at Maan.

Maan narrowed his eyes silently telling him to leave, Karan understood and cursed beneath his breath and looked back at Amelia.

"Sure" he forced himself to smile and stand, Amelia grinned winking at Geet and waited.

"Good luck" Karan whispered softly to Maan then smirked turning to face Amelia, he shot Amelia a disgusted look which she'd missed and led her away. Geet turned away when Maan looked at her, she kept her eyes focused on the other diners playing with her fingers. She wondered if he'll pick out her robot comment or throwing him into the pool.

"Geet" Maan called gently to which she pressed her eyes closed.

"Hmm... J... ji" she mumbled incoherently. "Um... Sorry" she rambled on without letting him respond.

"Huh?"

"For saying robot and pushing you into the pool" she continued. "I didn't mean to, woh Vikrant was saying I won't..." She stammered mumbling whatever came to her mouth.

"Wait" Maan held up his hand. "What are you apologizing for?" he questioned missing what she was saying since she mumbled and stammered her entire sentence.

"Robot" she muttered. "And pool"

Maan looked at her in amusing surprise and laughed shaking his head inwardly, Geet frowned pouting, her heart was racing rapidly and here he was laughing whilst she'd been scared wondering what he'll be doing.

A soft smile tugged her lips, she looked down embarrassed wringing her fingers together squirming in her chair, Maan looked at Geet smiling faintly.

"I... I wanted to speak about your work" Maan spoke gently, Geet looked up staring at him curiously. "I... I was thinking you won't liking with Karan so why don't you work for my company?" he finally asked despite his hesitance, he only hoped she accepted.

"Ji??" she stared at him in disbelief.

Chapter 23

Geet lowered her head chewing on her lip fidgeting with her fingers, she didn't know how to respond to that. She recalled the day she'd overheard him talking to Dadima and the day he'd talked to her about how he'd thought of her after his money. Yes, he'd explained his point of view but could she honestly work with him?

"Geet" Maan called her gently getting uncomfortable with her silence.

"M... Main aapke... aapke saat kaam.." she mumbled. She pressed her eyes closed trying to gather courage to bring herself to refuse. She couldn't work with him, not only that she knew how rumours spread around. If anyone comes to learn they're married she was going to face slander for getting a position in such a big company that too because she was his wife. "Main... wahan kaam nahi karna chahti" she muttered.

Maan swallowed thickly, a part of him feeling defeated. He hadn't expected her to refuse, he'd never had anyone refuse him and he almost regretted asking her now.

Geet slowly lifted eyes to look at him and noted how he was clenching his jaws, his face expressionless, and she knew she'd upset him. "I... I'm sorry" she mumbled standing to her feet and walked away tripping over her own feet, Maan abruptly stood and followed noticing her expressions, she's obviously running away from him. But why?

"Geet wait" Maan called as he followed behind.

She stilled when she felt his fingers curl around her wrist, she swallowed thickly, her heart racing and pounding beneath her chest in hesitation and almost fear wondering what he'd say or do. She looked around and realized she was alone with him in the hallway and no one else was around.

"Why did you run?" Maan questioned stepping in front of her. "Geet" he called her gently, she was tensed and he guessed it was because of him. He'd worn his emotions on his face, he was displeased with her response but he wasn't going to force her to work with him or anything. Dammit he cared for her. Maan stepped back brushing hand through his hair and looked at Geet for a moment, he swallowed thickly. What the hell was he even thinking? He looked away everywhere but at her, she was making him think things he'd never once wanted to feel with anyone. He inhaled deeply gathering himself and forced himself to look at her, she was probably even in the same boat as him, afraid and hesitant.

"I... I won't hurt you Geet" he whispered.

She slowly lifted her eyes to meet his, Maan stared at her intently wanting to assure her somehow but he had no idea, what could be said to someone so fragile. Like him Geet would need complete assurance not with words but actions.

"Let's go back to the table, they're all going to search for us" he pointed.

Geet looked at the exit then back down the hallway in the direction of the restaurant, she slowly nodded allowing herself to trust him, Maan stepped aside letting her pass and walked behind her.

Maan looked at her hands as it lay by her side, they looked soft and tiny compared to his, intrigued and unconsciously he reached for her fingers and held them, Geet almost gasped, his touch was soft and gentle, almost careful. Maan pulled back instantly hearing her soft gasp cursing himself wondering what on earth he was thinking.

He was intrigued by her hand? Damn!

The rest of the dinner was done quietly and with polite conversations between everyone else but Maan and Geet. Both preferred to be quiet and converse as less as possible.

Geet lay in bed recalling the night, she tugged the blanket to her neck almost hugging smiling inwardly. She wondered whether the man who'd used to scare the life out of her one time, was he the same person? Dr Nikita's words once again rung in her ears. She wondered could there be a past to her husband? One she didn't know of. She turned onto her stomach now hugging her pillow smiling to herself, she tried to imagine being a wife to him, a way in all meanings, would she be able to love him like her mother once loved her father? She smiled faintly recalling his touch on her fingers, she looked at her hand and chuckled to herself blushing furiously. He'd touched her for the first time.

Maan leaned back resting comfortably on his chair as he recalled their dinner tonight, despite barely talking to his wife he'd come to learn quite a bit about her. One thing he knew was she was really uncomfortable with him, especially alone. He wondered how could he assure her that he wasn't going to harm her or anything. He'd talked to her and explained it once but she was restless with him. And he cared in a way.

Probably a few more outings with them alone, once she'll get used to it, it could possibly rid of the edge of discomfort. Was it possible to care for someone you barely knew? Possibly he thought to himself. Probably because he's seen she was in a way just as hurt and damaged as him, he recalled the night he called her family over, he hadn't seen such a shattered or broken person in his life.

He decided to book a day to go and meet his mother in law, he wanted to learn more about his wife and he needed to find out whether those adoption papers held any truth.

He wondered if Geet knew, he didn't think she did or could she be acting ignorant to those meaningless papers wanting love from her family?

Geet was quick to get up in the morning, she requested their trusted driver to take her to the clinic wanting to see her before she headed off to college. She'd informed Vikrant of her plans to head to college early and he'd promised to see her when she arrived.

"You look well Geet" Dr Nikita commented as she walked in.

"I am" she smiled.

"So... how was your week?" Dr Nikita questioned as she gathered her things and prepared for their session.

"It was good" Geet replied smiling a little too much, her cheeks warmed and coloured. "Um... we went out for dinner" she informed.

"Oh" Dr Nikita looked at her in a pleasant surprise. "Wow"

"Um... he... he asked me to work with him as well" she added biting her lower lip.

"Uh huh... So what did you say?"

"I said no" she muttered.

"Oh... why is that?" Dr Nikita pried as she jotted down notes as Geet spoke.

Geet then explained how Maan once mentioned that he'd thought she wanted to money.

"I don't want to work for him, what if one day he thinks I'm working for his money or something? Or what if I wanted more?"

Dr Nikita smiled faintly placing her tablet down and looked at Geet crossing her hands before her. "You're working as an employee there"

"But what about when someone comes to know I'm his wife" she responded unsurely. "I've seen a friend of mine being bullied because her dad works in our college, they all think she got into college because of him not her effort" Geet replied.

"This is unfortunately the world we live in, people thought my husband opened this clinic for me using his own pocket money" she responded. "When in was in fact me using up all my savings to set this place up"

"Oh... that's nice" Geet replied a little unsurely.

"You thought the same as well didn't you?" Dr Nikita laughed.

"Well.. you're kinda young to open a clinic aren't you?" she muttered.

"I'm not that young, I'm heading to my mid-thirties "she informed with a soft laugh. "Anyways moving on from my life, let's go back to yours"

"I always talk about mine" Geet replied. "I want to know about you"

"You're paying me to listen to my advice not my life" Dr Nikita reminded.

"Doesn't matter, I won't tell Dadima if you don't" she chuckled mischievously.

"I'd have never thought I'd see a day when you will be so mischievous" Dr Nikita laughed. "Should I tell you something?" she questioned to which Geet nodded eagerly.

"When I saw you, I thought you're going to waste my time and keep quiet all the time but you know seeing the changes I'm happy I still kept you on. You've changed a lot Geet and I'm really happy for you"

Geet smiled shyly, she hadn't been praised often and now when someone praised her she ended up blushing shyly.

"So what will you do then?" Dr Nikita changed the subject back to what they were discussing.

"I already said no" Geet informed.

"This will be a great chance for you to know him more. You can ask everyone to keep quiet about who you are and enter just as Geet rather than Geet Khurana" Dr Nikita suggested. "I know you're unsure and concerned but this will be a great opportunity for you and your husband to get to know each other"

"Dr Nikita" Geet leaned forward. "How do I know he's doing this to know me and not doing it for Dadima?"

"Meaning?" Dr Nikita frowned in confusion.

"Well... he said he wants to know me and you know... he loves Dadima so much, like so so much and I'm scared that he's just doing it for her"

"There's only one way to tell Geet" Dr Nikita replied.

"How?" she questioned.

"Know your husband, learn about him" she replied softly. "You wouldn't know anything if you don't ask. Ask him questions, if he truly wants to build a relationship with you then he'll tell you everything you want to know"

Geet nodded understanding. "Do you think... I was thinking last night if I..." she dipped her head down feeling shy and confused, even nervous.

"What is it Geet?" Dr Nikita questioned. "Nothing you say to me will be going out of this office" she assured her.

"Do you think... well I was thinking if I could love him" she mumbled softly, her cheeks warmed and coloured.

"You know what love is don't you?" Dr Nikita questioned.

"Kinda... It's like mama and papa's love"

"When you feel like that, you'll know you love your husband" Dr Nikita informed. "The day you can't imagine a day without him, you'll know you love your husband"

Geet smiled nodding, she chewed her lower lip as she tried imaging herself as his wife in all means, she touched her neck wondering if he'll slip on her manglsutr. Other than wearing on karwa chaut she hadn't worn it again, she couldn't accept her marriage to Maan just like that. Now at the thought of becoming his wife she blushed, would there be a day where he'd tease her or she'd tease him? She wondered whether he even laughed, he did laugh yesterday a little but then that was probably at her stupidity; she quickly stood up realizing her hour was up and bid bye to Dr Nikita and made her way outside where the driver was waiting.

Maan was running late this morning, it was nearing lunch and he'd only woken up an hour ago, he was fixing his tie as he climbed down the stairs in a hurry. He strode for the door but stopped when Dadima called him.

"Yes Dadima?" he turned to face her as she sat comfortably on the sofa flipping through a magazine.

"Did you wake up now?" she questioned.

"What else does it look like?" he replied rolling his eyes.

"Come join us for lunch Maan. You're late anyways" she pointed.

"Dadima I need to be..."
"I've already called and told them you won't be coming in and to hold off your meetings till you come" she informed him.

"What? Dadima I had a..."

"Maan shut up" she scowled. "Ab aiye aur humare saat lunch kijiye" she placed the magazine down and walked towards the dining room, Maan followed reluctantly and checked his phone for the time and for any new emails.

"So bete how was dinner with your wife?" Dadima questioned, he knew then Dadima wanted to use this lunch as an excuse to tease him and squeeze out details of last night.

"I've found a new bahu" he replied. "Perfect for our Karan"

"Karan haan nahi kahega" she muttered.

"So why don't you force him like you did to me?" he responded.

"Complain kar rahe hai kya?" she narrowed her eyes at him.

His lips thinned, he couldn't even answer that. He definitely wasn't complaining about being married to his wife now, she wasn't who he thought, she was different, innocent and fragile and just as broken. He wanted to be the one she reached for in the times of need. "Dadima I'm going to be going hp later on the week" he informed, his eyes drew to the side and he noted Geet standing there, she looked hurt, he cursed inwardly realizing she must've heard. She dipped her eyes down and walked away, Dadima hadn't seen her since she had her back to Geet.

"Par Maan..."

"I'm coming" he excused himself going behind Geet. He wondered what he was going to say to her, he couldn't tell her the truth and if he kept quiet she'd misunderstand.

"Geet" he called but this time she didn't stop instead she closed her bedroom door blocking him, she leaned against the door. Her lips trembled as she wondered why he was going to her home town. Would he be bringing someone back?

Maan stared at the door for some time knocking but she didn't open it. He glanced down at his clock and knew he had to leave.

"We need to talk Geet" he told her touching the door. "You're misunderstanding me" he continued hoping she'd open the door at least but no sound came from the other side.

"Geet" Maan called again.

"C... Can we speak later" she replied softly, she didn't want to see him right now, she was hurt and confused.

"I'll try to come back early" he informed her.

She nodded though he couldn't see, she pressed her eyes closed as she heard his footsteps fading away. She'd returned hoping to catch him and tell him she'd like to work with him but right now she was unsure. Why did he want to go to hp?

Chapter 24

Geet lay curled up in her bed hugging her pillows, Maan's words burning her within, she wondered why he'd want to go to hp especially after he'd seen what happened last time. Could it be he still doubted her? She wondered, she bit down on her lower lip recalling Dr Nikita's words to give them a chance, she supposed she could give Maan a chance to... tell her the reason. Would he tell her the reason? She questioned inwardly, he didn't exactly explain his actions or anything let alone giving detailed information of why he might be going to hp. She decided not to tell Maan of her changing her mind about working with him, before she does close such a gap between them she wants to know him before she agrees to this. She decided to go ahead with former plan of working alongside Karan.

Maan had been restless throughout the day, he wondered about all the misunderstandings that might be caused with Geet hearing his words, it'd been hard to concentrate in the office knowing Geet must be tensed at home with his words probably echoing over and over again. Seeing her change in her expression as soon as she'd heard hp had him more curious and all the more keen to know the truth of Geet's fear.

He'd buried himself with his work forgetting everything and had hoped erase the edge of curiosity, he glanced at the clock and realized it was nearing 9 in the evening, he gathered his things together cursing himself for not leaving earlier as he'd told Geet he'll try to return early. He strode out of his office in long strides heading down where his driver was already waiting, climbing inside he settled back once commanding the driver to head home. A number of thoughts swirled in his head as he tried to figure out what to say to Geet, he couldn't tell her the truth but he didn't want to lie as well.

Unless... he did something to make his lie is turned into a truth, he quickly dialled his assistant ordering him to buy a land, any land from HP. Specifically from HP.

He relaxed in his seat feeling relieved, he now wouldn't have to lie to his wife nor tell her the entire truth. He pulled out his phone to check it since it was on silent all this time, he frowned seeing messages from Karan and his brother with a number of miscalls.

Haven't you convinced bhabhi yet?

Are u alive?

Dd I hear things ryt? Or were u lying about wanting to work with bhabhi?

Pick up the phone arrogant shit

Maan wondered why Karan had sent a string of messages regarding Geet's work placement, he was about to reply back but then his phone flashed with a new message from Vikrant. He opened the messages and started reading through them.

Bhai did you ask bhabhi to work with you?

Bhai wer are u?

Call me asap bhai

Are u still at work?

He decided to call his brother and find out what on earth they were both banging on about, he started dialling the number when the car slowly stopped, he turned his head realizing he'd arrived home. He cut the call and climbed out heading inside, he halted seeing Vikrant, Karan, Geet and Dadima sat in the hall. He stepped back slightly so they wouldn't notice since he heard Dadima talking to Geet regarding some work.

"Bete Maan ke saat kaam karenge toh experience bhi hoga" Dadima informed Geet.

"Janti hoon lekin Karan ke saat bhi kaam karungi toh experience bhi hogi" she replied, Geet had come down in the evening and found all of them sat in the hall. She decided to inform Dadima she'll be working with Karan instead of Maan, since then Dadima has tried to change her mind with various excuses, Vikrant and Karan had even come up with the weirdest excuses. Bhai will work harder if you're there.

You'll have fun working with him, I'll always be shouting and you might get scared.

Yeah bhabhi, Karan bhai can be quite an ass at work.

Yeah I agree... Wait what?

She shook her head mentally wondering where they'd picked out all these excuses from.

"Geet bete..."

"Dadima" Geet reached over taking dadima's hand into hers and squeezed gently. "I want to be able to stand on my own" she whispered softly. "If I work with Maan then it's possible people will only say I've had it easier. I don't want people to look at me as Geet Khurana Dadima. I don't want them to think of me as Maan Khurana's wife. I want to be independent please" she pleaded. She'd always had barriers around her stopping her from spreading out her wings and flying, she wanted to take steps forward without the barrier, without anyone holding her hand, without anyone guiding her. She wanted to fall 7 times and get up on her 8th and show everyone she can do it.

Maan had tried to hear what they speaking about but he couldn't hear a word, Geet's voice is so soft and to even hear her he would have to be right next to her. He watched as Dadima said something nodding then hugged her, Maan decided to walk inside realizing he wouldn't hear a word from such a distance. Geet parted away and looked at Maan, she looked away dipping her eyes down swallowing thickly. She hoped Maan hadn't heard anything she'd said just now, she was afraid of what he might be thinking of her thoughts, though Dadima understood and agreed, she didn't know Maan would. He was a man after all and she'd grown around more men than women.

"Aap aagaye?" Dadima smiled his way.

"Well he is standing here Dadima" Karan replied instead.

"Karan aap bhi na" Dadima shook her head.

"Wow" Vikrant suddenly gaped at Maan. "Bhai you came home early, look it's only half 9" he pointed to the clock.

"Isn't it your bedtime?" Maan replied glaring at his younger brother.

"I'm 20 not 8" he responded with a frown.

"Sure you are" Maan muttered and turned to Dadima before he could say what he wanted to, Geet had spoken not realizing he was about to speak.

"Dadima main chalti hoon"

"Kaana toh kha ke jaiye" Dadima pointed towards the dining room. "Sab kuch garam hai aur tayyar bhi hai"

"Nahi Dadima, maine aaj shaam chicken wrap kha li. Bhook nahi nahi" she replied shaking her head.

"Teek bete. Jaake araam kar lijiye" she patted Geet's cheek, Geet smiled and stood to her feet and looked at the others avoiding Maan's eyes.

"Good night"

"Night Bhabhi" Vikrant and Karan replied simultaneously, Geet chuckled turning around heading towards the stairs.

"Bhabhi" Vikrant called feeling mischievous.

"What?" she looked over her shoulder.

"Won't you say night to bhai?" he laughed, Geet looked away hurriedly, her cheeks burning in embarrassment, she ran up the stairs hurriedly, Maan stared at her retreating back and turned his scowl on his brother who was laughing away with Dadima and Karan.

"Did you see her face?" Vikrant chuckled. "Tomato red"

"Open that mouth of yours like that I'm going to make sure you're tomato red next time. Except you won't be blushing but bleeding"

"Oh oh... Macho bhai" Vikrant pretended to be scared and started laughing louder, Maan stalked towards him, Vikrant jumped to his feet running behind the sofa laughing even more. "If you really want to exercise go to the gym" he pointed.

"Why you..." Maan narrowed his eyes at his younger brother.

"Bas bas bas" Dadima held out her hand. "Maan aap jaake fresh ho jaiye, khana tayaar hai aur aap Vikrant yahan ek jage pe chup chaap baitiye" she pointed.

"Do you always have to spoil my fun?" he pouted sitting down beside Dadima, Maan smacked his head as he passed by glaring at his brother and headed upstairs.

Maan was passing by Geet's room, he stopped outside wanting to speak to her now, it could be possible after dinner she's asleep. He knocked and waited patiently, a moment later the door clicked open with Geet peeking slightly through the gap.

"Aap..." she muttered in surprise.

"C... Could I come in?" he requested. "I... I want to speak about this morning"

Geet slowly nodded and stepped back opening the door wider, Maan hesitated for a moment stepping into his old room he'd shared with Geet before he'd moved out. He stepped inside and looked around, an amused smiled came to his face seeing the changes in the room. He'd come once before on karwa chaut but he hadn't exactly taken in the room because he had his focus on Brij that night. There were traces of his most hated colours - pink, red, purple. His wife was quite a girl, he thought to himself however another thought crossed his mind; She was only 18 years old which made him 8yrs older than his wife. Damn. He hadn't realized until now how much of an age difference they both have.

"Um... You can sit down" Geet murmured softly seeing him just standing there, it was becoming awkward for her and for him.

Maan nodded and walked around settling down on the sofa, Geet took small steps and sat down hesitantly on the chair opposite staring at her folded hands.

"Wh.. What you heard in the morning" Maan started clearing his throat. "I... I'm going to hp" he informed her, Geet wrung her fingers together, fidgeting in her seat.

"But not for what you're thinking or anything" he continued. "I've got land there, I'm going to see that land" he informed her hoping Adi had bought that land from hp.

"Oh..." Geet looked up and somehow felt relieved inwardly, she had expected him to say he was going to see her family or something.

"Yeah... It's just on business" he muttered.

She nodded slowly and looked around hoping this was all he'd come to talk about.

"Geet I also want to ask about the work" he leaned forward concentrating on her completely, Geet looked up at him wondering how she could answer to his question.

"I know you said no but can I know at least why you don't want to work with me?" Maan questioned hoping she'd answer. "Is it because of what I said last time?"

Geet shook her head. "Nahi woh..." How could she explain that she didn't want to be known as his wife, it's possible everyone will think she's working in such a big established company all because of Maan. She wanted to working as herself, she wanted spread out her wings and grow them, she wanted to be independent and prove she isn't just some trophy house wife or something. She wanted to be known as herself. Just as Geet then known as Maan's wife.

"You can tell me Geet" Maan replied hoping to ease her in some way so she'd be able to confide in him.

"People will question me" she mumbled softly. "If I work and then someone finds out... that I'm... I'm uh... I'm a Khurana as well"

"You mean my wife" he intervened guessing exactly what she feared.

"Hmm..." she nodded. "So I can't work"

"Nothing like that will happen Geet" Maan spoke staring at her directly, not once moving his gaze away from hers.

"Ji..." she frowned in confusion.

"You won't be working just as anyone but my wife. You'll be known as Geet Khurana" his voice assertive and firm. Geet stared at him in awe, she looked down at her hands and composed herself wanting to express herself, her view to him so he'd understand exactly what she wanted.

"I want to be known as Geet first" she whispered. "I want people to know me because of my work not because I'm... I'm your wife. I want people to be proud and see what I've achieved" she slowly looked up, her voice passionate as she talked about what she wants. "I want... I want to be independent, I want them to see Maan Khurana's got an independent wife not a trophy housewife" she whispered softly.

Maan stared at her registering her words, he was in awe of his wife, the passion for becoming independent in her voice was loud and clear. He had no words for her, all the thoughts that once swirled in his head about his wife becoming dependent on him, his family, his money... all of that turned out to be wrong. He'd known it but today he witnessed it.

"I'll... I could come and work afterwards" Geet mumbled seeing him not responding, Maan shook his head smiling softly.

"I understand" he replied gently. "And I support your decision" he added earning a soft smile and a surprised look from Geet.

"Really?" she questioned unable to believe his words.

"Hmm.." he nodded standing up. "Karan will guide you correctly" he told her. "Don't tell him I told him that though, he wouldn't let me hear the end of it"

Geet chuckled dipping her head down.

"Anyways good night" he turned to leave, however stopped by the door. "That also means" he looked over his shoulder. "Weekends we're spending together if we want to know each other" he informed her in a teasing tone making her blush. Maan smiled staring at Geet and chuckled silently. "Night Geet"

"Hmm..." she mumbled, Maan turned and walked out of the bedroom and headed towards his to change, Geet closed the door and leaned against it wondering what had just happened.

"So in this team we have you, Amelia and Meera" Vikrant started, "and in the boys we have me, Maan bhai and Karan might be coming"

"What? Then I'm not playing" Geet shook her head stepping back. They'd gathered together in Khurana mansion on the weekend wanting to spend time together when Vikrant suggested they play a game.

"What? You just said... Bhabhi you can't do this" Vikrant scowled. "Plus I had to beg bhai to play"

"It's not going to be fair na? us three against two" she muttered hoping to back away.

"You're saying this because of bhai na?" Vikrant replied.

"Arre let your husband play yaar. Plus Karan is going to be coming" Amelia giggled excitedly. "I can't wait"

"Why are you even bothering for? He hates you" Meera rolled her eyes.

"Shut up. He's hot" she waved her hands before her face.

"Both of you shut up would you?" Vikrant huffed then turned to Geet. "Bhabhi you wanted to play right?"

"Well... I... I can't now"

"Bhai isn't going to eat you up"

"He might in the night" Amelia nudged her winking and giggling. "You know if we make the boys lose then he might take revenge with that long passionate... Lurrrvvveee making" she laughed. Geet blushed furiously in embarrassment, her cheeks coloured, she dipped her head unable to bring herself to look at anyone. Her words reminded her of the dreamy scenes she'd read about and even imaging her husband... She shook her thoughts away. What was she even thinking? She shouldn't even be thinking on the lines of being close to him let alone making... She squeezed her eyes shut cursing herself even trying to image such a thing.

"Bhai is here as well" Vikrant pointed out, Geet looked over shoulder swallowing hard as he walked towards them, unknowingly her eyes drew down his tall lean figure, he wasn't overly muscular nor was he skinny, he seemed just right, well-proportioned in all the right places. She dipped her eyes down as he caught her staring, heat coloured her cheeks instantly, she chewed on her lower lip unconsciously, her breathing quickened as he stood only a couple of feet away staring at them.

"Are you lot ready?" Maan questioned looking around, he'd noted Geet staring but didn't think much of it, she was probably feeling uncomfortable that he'd agreed to play he thought to himself. "Where's Karan?" he frowned noting Karan isn't here.

"Um he's on his way but bhai teams aren't fair, bhabhi doesn't want to play now" he replied sadly, Maan turned his head looking at Geet, she snapped her head to Vikrant as soon as she registered his words and scowled at him.

"She will play" Amelia said sternly. "Won't you?" She scowled at her friend, who pouted back at her. "Now come on team meeting" she pulled Meera gesturing Geet to follow. Vikrant walked over to get the ball leaving them two standing alone, Karan had also just arrived, Geet turned to leave but halted when she suddenly felt Maan slowly stepping behind her holding her forearm gently.

"Why don't you want to play?" he asked gently, she swallowed thickly squeezing her eyes shut unwillingly. "Are you scared of playing with me?" Maan questioned softly, his breath caressing her lobe, goosebumps covered her arms and heat coloured her cheeks instantly with his closeness.

"Ji..." Geet turned around frowning in confusion as she registered his words, and the teasing tone, Maan smirked walking past her stealing the basketball from Karan, he looked over his shoulder at Geet smiling faintly, Geet blinked a couple of times staring at him.

"You can drool over your husband later" Amelia smacked her breaking her trance. Did he actually like secretly tease her somehow?

"What?" she muttered rubbing her arm.

"We're going to end up losing if you don't concentrate on the game" she pointed out.

"Oh... Well I'm not playing" she stepped back, Amelia glared at her tugging her wrist pulling her into the large court.

"Yes you damn are, I won't lose to those Khurana bananas"

"You all know how to play right?" Vikrant asked.

"Just toss the ball" Maan glared at him.

Vikrant rolled his eyes and threw the ball up in the air and everyone made a move towards it...

The game was well played though the girls did end up losing especially with Geet growing conscious each time Maan had come and tried to take the ball off her and Karan and Amelia arguing from time to time.

Thankyou so very much for the triple updates. I was sad and jealous when you said last time that the other ff got multiple updates. Thank goodness maan is genuinely interested in knowing about geet and is being patience with her. Geet is also becoming comfortable with the gang.
Will maan go and meet his m.i.l in hoshiyarpur?
