CHAPTER 10(a)
ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Any royal titles, architectural terms,IT terms & programs, office hierachy, wedding rituals, etc. are from my imagination hence THEY ARE NOT TRUE. PLEASE DON'T BASH ME !!!!!
Hearing Geet's promise Maan became concerned and realised that he has to get things done fast! He unlocked the door and called the peon and asked him to get hot tea, coffee and sandwiches. Maan called Dadimaa and said that what they had suspected is true and he wants to marry Geet as soon as possible! Maan then called Sameera and told her his wish to marry Geet. Sameera was overjoyed! He asked Sameera to give Dadimaa, Geet's date of birth; time of birth; and place of birth so the 'mahurath' could be decided. He kept trying to revive Geet in the meantime. Half an hour later, Dadimaa called to tell that 'mahurath' has been decided for tomorrow morning! By now Geet was conscious. Maan made her forcibly have tea and sandwiches! Maan tried calling Vicky but his phone was coming unreachable! He called Dadimaa, Yash, Sameera, Adi to GK Apple Orchard Cottage and went with Geet there. In presence of Dadimaa, Sameera, Adi, Yash, Bhola and Gauri, Maan went down on his knee and proposed to Geet, "Mishty, mujhe se shaadi karogi?"
Before Geet could answer the door bell rang. Bhola opened the door and Vicky stepped in, "What bhai, you were proposing to Bhabhi without Vicky? NOW PROPOSE!"
Maan again said,"Mishty, I LOVE YOU! Mujhe se shaadi karogi?" (Geet, will you marry me?) Geet shyly nodded "yes".
Dadimaa had got Khurana Khandaan's engagement ring for Geet. Sameera gave a male ring saying, "Maan yeh angoothi Geet ke nanaji, Mr. Brijeshwar Khanna ki hai! Agar design old fashion lage to hum badal sakte hain!" (Maan this ring belongs to Geet's grandfather, Mr. Brijeshwar Khanna. If you find it old fashioned, we can exchange it!)
Hearing about her grandfather, Geet had tears in her eyes, "Kash Arjun, Teji aur Lucky Veerji yahaan hote?" (I wish my brothers- Arjun, Teji and Lucky were here!)
To lighten the environment, Vicky started his jokes, "Bhabhi, aap apne is dull and boring devar Yash se toh mil lee, abb apne interesting devar, Vikrant Singh Khurana, I mean 'Vicky' se milye." Vicky bowed regally towards Geet, making her laugh. Getting happy and affectionate glares from everyone present.
"Geet beta, kya aap ke ya Sameera ke paas thodi heavy saree hai? Kal pehne ke liye!" Both nodded no. Giving Maan the cue he needed as now it was going to be the ladies talk.
"Guys, I need all three of you !" Adi, Vicky & Yash followed Maan. "Guys, Geet's life is in danger and I'm trying to contact Rishi but he is somewhere on a mission!"
"Bhai, why is bhabhi in danger?"
Maan and Adi narrated all the available facts to Vicky and Yash.
"The reason Geet and I are getting married in Manali is so that Sasha and Rahul are not aware of it. Tomorrow the mahurath is for morning so less people will be around! Hopefully wedding will be over before the office starts thereby not arousing any suspicion! Adi, can you please get our marriage registered as soon as possible!"
"Adi bhai, why are Sasha & Rahul against Maan bhai?"
"Vicky, its a long story! Rahul's friends were Third Year students at XYZ college. From the name you must be aware of what kind of reputation that college holds! Anyways they came to our college 6 yrs. back and started troubling Pinkyji (Adi blushed saying Pinky's name). Geet went to her defence. The three ruffians asked Geet to kiss the first male who enters the college. Guess who enters?"
"MAAN BHAI!" Vicky & Yash yelled.
"Yes! While kissing Maan, she apologised in advance saying that she has been forced in it for Pinkiji's safety! Maan was furious and got them arrested! Since then, those two are against Maan for getting their friends arrested and Geet for complaining against them. Things were blown out of proportion when they tried to murder Geet but instead Maan & Geet's baby was killed. Now they have vowed to harm Maan, Geet's family, Meera and Pinky!"
The moment "Meera's" name was said, Vicky came in his attack mode. How could he stand by when Meera, his love, her life was involved?
"Bhai, what do want us to do?"
"For now, tomorrow just keep a watch that no suspicious person is near the ladies. Once back home, no one should be aware of Geet and my relationship! Just now, I'm more bothered by Geet's emotional state as she is totally broken from within!"
Dadimaa came outside where men were and said,"Shaadi ka mahurath kal subah 6:30 baje ka nikhla hai, iss liye kuch zaruri rasmein aaj karni hain!"(The auspicious time for the wedding is tomorrow morning 6:30am. Therefore some important rituals have to be done today!)
"Kaunsi rasmei?" (What rituals?)
"Sangeet aur mehendi ke liye to samay nahi hai magar Maan aur Geet ki "haldi" ho sakti hai!"(There is no time for Sangeet and mehendi but only for Maan and Geet's "haldi"!" ) "Adi, Yash aur Vicky aap Maan ki 'haldi' ka program Hotel Suite mei shuru kijiye aur hum Geet ki 'haldi' ka! Bass ek baat ka dhyaan rakhiyega ki haldi ke baad Maan aur Geet shaadi tak nahi mil sakte!" (Adi, Yash and Vicky you organise Maan's 'haldi' in Hotel Suite & I'll organise Geet's 'haldi'. Only remember one thing that Maan and Geet can't meet after haldi until their wedding!)
"KYA? Dadimaa, mai yeh sab nahi maanta!" (WHAT? I don't agree with all this!)
"Humne aap se maan ne ke liye nahi, karne ke liye kahaa hai!" (I'm not asking you to agree but follow!)
Maan's "haldi" was done at Hotel suite admist lot of fun and laughter with Adi, Yash and Vicky passing teasing comments and pulling Maan's leg!
"Adi bhai, who is going to wear pants in KM from now? I mean figuritively!" Yash said seriously.
"Yash bhai, do you need to ask? Maan bhai is going to be a "Joru ka Ghulam" soon! Adi bhai, now there will no longer be pasta for breakfast but parantha dahi!"
"Instead of tai-chi moves, now melodious bhajans!"
There was a burst of laughter. Maan was helpless and couldn't react as he was smeared with haldi.
Maan's "used haldi" was brought to GK Orchards Cottage for Geet, but before it could be applied on her door-bell rang to everyone's surprise. Sameera went to open the door and stood transfixed! Seeing Sameera standing frozen on the door, Dadimaa went near her, "Sameera beta, kaun hai? Haldi ka samay nikala jaa raha hai!" (Sameera, who is it? The "Haldi ceremony's time is elapsing!)
"ARJUN!"
"Arjun, tum sahi samay par aaye ho. Kal Geet ka "Kanyadaan" tum karna!" (Arjun you are here in time. You can do Geet's "Kanyadaan" tomorrow!"
"Geet? Kanyadaan?"
"Sameera, aap Arjun ko ander le aaye. Kuch khilaaye peelaye phir jald se jald haldi ke liye aaye!"(Sameera, you take Arjun inside and make him eat & drink something. Then quickly bring him for "haldi" ceremony.) Dadimaa left giving privacy to the couple.
Sameera briefly explained about Geet, her life and whereabouts! Sameera told Arjun about Maan and Geet's love story, Dhruv's untimely death and reason for Geet's disappearance was because there is danger to Maan's life & Geet's family's life! Arjun was guilty that he was not there to support his sister in her time of need! Arjun met Geet hugged her and cried, "Geetu mujhe maaf kar de ki maine tera saath dene ke bajaaye Maa ka saath diyaa!" (Geet forgive me for supporting Mom instead of you!)
"Arjun baaki baatein baad mei karenge abhi Geet ki "haldi" ka samay hai!"(Arjun you can have heart to heart talk later, come for Geet's Haldi!)
Arjun started the Haldi ceremony, followed by Dadimaa, then Sameera and ended with Gauri. Bhola was sent out for miscellaneous works! Arjun accompanied Dadimaa to their Hotel Suite to meet Maan. Geet with Sameera and Gauri's help went for bath!
Arjun went and met his two long lost friends, Maan & Adi. They had a long chat bringing back old memories. Finally Arjun said, "Maan what have you thought regards Geet's security?"
"Arjun, Dadimaa and I have decided that we'll get married here in Manali. As Rahul will be having us under surveillance both KM and Khanna House. Thereby giving them no indication about Geet's whereabouts!"
"I think this is best as after Maa's death, I will NEVER take my Geetu where that devil in form of father, Mr. Mohinderlal Handa stays!"
Dadimaa was an intelligent and worldly-wise woman. She knew the underlying meaning behind Arjun's words. She also could put two and two together and understand why Rano did not let Geet stay in Khurana House. Before Arjun could get more angry, Dadimaa tried to calm him by saying, "Arjun beta, abb toh aap ladkiwale ho gaye toh aap ko humari ek baat maan ni padhegi!" (Arjun, now you are from bride's side, so you have to listen to our one demand!)
"Boliye Dadimaa! Aap ka hukum sar aankhon par!" (Yes Dadimaa! Your wish is my command!)
"Bass itni baat hai ki aaj raat yaani jab tak Maan aur Geet ki shaadi nahi hoti, aap dekheyga ki yeh dono mil nahi sakte!" (I have a small request that till Maan and Geet don't get married, please see that they don't meet!)
"Ji Dadimaa! Aap bilkul sahi keh rahi hain!" Arjun said trying to hide his laugh seeing Maan's irritated expressions. (You are absolutely right Dadimaa!)
"Dost, dost naa raha...!" Vicky teased Maan
Maan left banging his room door! Making everyone in the room burst with laughter they were controlling."Dadimaa, what about Bhai's "Bachelor Party!"
"Vicky, yahaan toh hum chup chupakar Maan aur Geet ki shaadi karaa rahe hain, aur aap "Bachelor Party" karke usse broadcast karna chahte hain! Chaliye abb khaana kha ke sab soye. Kal subah ke chaar baje (4am) jagna hai!" (Vicky, here we are trying to get them married in hiding and you want to broadcast it to the world by celebrating "Bachelor Party"! Now quickly have dinner and go to sleep. Tomorrow we all have to be awake at 4am.)
Arjun was about to leave when Maan came near him and asked in hushed tones, "Can you please give me Sameera's mobile no.?"
"Why do you want to talk to my wife? What do you want from her?" Arjun said in a fake angry & jealous tone.
" I want Geet...Get lost! I'll find out her no. myself!"
Making Arjun, Adi, Yash and Vicky laugh at Maan's desperation! Before Maan could stomp off, Adi had mercy on Maan and said, "Maan, Geet doesn't keep a mobile phone. She is only contactable at the Cottage phone!" Resulting in another uproar of laughter from the four men present!
While everyone was teasing Maan, Geet had taken bath and her milky skin was glowing! Dadimaa had sent Bhola earlier and got a mehendiwali to the cottage. Geet's hand and feet now were being decorated with mehendi and having her love's name, "Maan" decorated in her palms!
