Part 10
Vivaan was sitting on his bed looking at a photo frame in his hand with a smile on his face like he does every night.
First he did it because he missed her and would talk to her complaining through this photo frame since he couldn't do the same face to face anymore. But later it had come to become his habit of talking to her daily which he continued till today.
The picture was from his birthday. The cute little girl was 13 then and was looking at the boy grinning, while the boy was holding a piece of cake in front of her mouth, smiling himself posing for the camera and the picture was clicked. It was his 15th birthday, which also happened to be his last birthday that he had celebrated with his Geet. He had gotten that particular picture framed in two similar beautiful crystal glass because the snap had come out rather exceptionally good. And also because he had wanted to gift the exact frame to her on her birthday as a memory close to both. Though he never got the chance to gift her the frame for Geet had stopped celebrating her birthdays. However, the picture as well the girl was very close to his heart. But today, yet again she has broken him and crushed heart brutally. He couldn't help but feel an ache in his heart since the time he got to know that Geet is in love with Maan Singh Khurana. It hurt like hell. Unknowingly to him, a tear slid down his eyes and dropped on the girl in the frame.
"Why Geet? Why did you do this to me?" He asked softly staring at the girl in the picture.
"We were best friends Geet. Childhood best friends. There was a time you wouldn't leave my side and chose to be with me 24*7 because both of our fathers were continuously busy on business trips. We have practically lived in a same house Geet; eating, studying, playing, talking and doing anything and everything. Although at start I used to be very irritated with your presence in my house. Because every servant would listen to your order first else you would start your tap and cry buckets. You remember how I never liked you sticking around me like glue all the time?" He chuckled through his tears remembering those crazy but beautiful days of his childhood.
"You remember, you forcefully chose to be friend with my friends, who obviously were mostly boys simply because you wanted to stay near me through them, who also happened to welcome you in our group despite my protest. Sometimes I used to wonder if they were my friends or yours? You had definitely charmed them with your non stop talks and innocence that they would chose you over me. But later I also started accepting you and we became friends. We were so happy in our own little world Geet. Then why we aren't friends anymore? Tell me, what changed after my 15th birthday that all of sudden you stopped being my best friend?" He asked in a voice filled with pain. He was still clueless as to what went wrong between them.
"I miss you so much Geet. Please come back to me. I miss my best friend." He said wiping the lone tear that slide down his cheek still looking at her face.
"You know, I had even changed my college and got myself admitted in yours to be close to you. To look after you like I used to do when we were best of friends. And then I myself don't know when I fell for you Geet. I don't know when I started having feelings for you while trying to be near you and get my best friend back. But I do remember the day when my entire being was on fire and I felt jealous seeing you dancing so closely with that classmate of yours on Valentine's Day." He spoke with displeasure written all over his face as if the scene was running in front of his eyes live.
"Seeing you dancing with him, your friends started teasing you with his name and for some strange reason I disliked your name being taken with him. I was so confused with my feelings Geet. I couldn't understand why I was feeling such extreme things. Then there were rumours going about you both being in a relationship which again just din't go down well with me. How could I accept it? I was your best friend and you have only dance with me in every parties we attended together or even in our own birthday parties. No one ever dared to break our partnership Geet. Then how come you changed your dancing partner when I couldn't?" He complained rather cutely.
"That was the time I started realizing that I was getting attracted to you and slowly fell for you. The more I saw you with that guy, the more possessive I felt and the more my feelings grew strong for you" He said looking at her beautiful innocent face trying to feel her through the picture.
"Do you see the irony here Geet? It was you first who would run behind me and when finally I accepted your presence and we became best friends you chose to go away from me without even letting me know what mistake I did. What changed between us, that overnight you stopped being my friend and started avoiding me?" He asked helplessly. He desparately needed answers to all his questions. He searched for her as if looking at her picture all his questions would be answered.
It frustrated and hurt him to no end that his Geet punished him in the worse possible way without even letting him know the reasons for the same. He had tried to talk to her but she remained mum and aloof. She had suddenly gone into a shell and had become a reserved person overnight from the lively, bubbly and naughty girl he knew her as. She stopped coming to his house and they even stopped going to school in same car. It was as if he knew never the girl he was friends with. The childish innocence she always had on her face had been replaced by a certain kind of maturity and she started taking life rather very seriously. She, who was an average student in academics started coming in top 3 students and completed her studies on her own merits and scholarships she earned. He was so bloody confused and he so much wanted to go after her and ask the reason of her changing attitude and behavior. But he knew, like always she will block him or either change her route seeing him. Her ignorance had always hurt him and still does. But the fact that she never shared her feelings and problems with him and din't find him important enough to tell him where exactly did he go wrong hurt him more. Din't he as much deserve some explanation from her?
However, slowly he saw her coming back to herself in her 2nd year of college and making new friends. That was when he had breathed a sigh of relief and was genuinely happy seeing her coming back to life. Though she continued avoiding him for some reasons known only to her. He thought recounting few events from their past.
"I couldn't take you ignoring me anymore Geet. It was getting unbearable. So I approached Dad and confessed my feelings for you to him. He was happy for me Geet and also promised me to get us married as soon as possible. I was so happy because I was finally I going to get my best friend back as well my love. But yet again you broke all my hopes, wishes and dreams by falling in love with that Maan Singh Khurana and rejected me for him. Me? Your childhood best friend over a guy whom you hardly know?" He asked her angrily.
"No Geet, I won't lose you this time. I can't lose you. Not after I have tried so much and was almost reaching my friend and love. And trust me, once we get married, I will give you the world's happiness, fulfil all your wishes and make all your dreams come true. I promise. But before that you will have to break up with that Maan. You will be mine Geet. Only mine" He vowed to himself looking lovingly at the girl in the picture.
"I Love You so much Geet" He kissed her photo keeping the frame at his bedside table, switching off the lamp and going to sleep.
***********
Maan entered his bedroom taking out his watch, wallet and pulling out his tie keeping them at his bedside table. He removed his waist coat and hanged it on a hanger preparing himself for a cold shower in this hot weather to sooth his muscles as well mind. He felt tired than usual today after the stressful day at office.
He entered his lavishly big bathroom and went in his shower cubicle and stood below the running water closing his eyes. His thoughts went back to the eventful day he had in office today.
Miss. Geet Handa had surely given him a shock of his life today. He admired her strength, dedication at work, honesty, confidence and outspoken personality. Specially the quality that she always looked straight in his eyes and answered unlike his other employee who thinks his eyes spits fire. Still, inspite of her attractive personality it was unbelievable to accept that she is a Don's daughter. He actually wouldn't have believed her had he not seen her gloomy and sad face after he refused to be her fake boyfriend in front of her Don father and later his meeting with Mr.Handa, who himself indirectly spoke of his real identity.
Although, he still isn't able to comprehend why he accepted to be her fake boyfriend in the first place. " Wait, did I just called her attractive? What is wrong with me? It's all because of the stupid game I played today that such thoughts are entering in my mind. She is not at all attractive or beautiful, alright. It's just her jasmine fragnance that is attractive. Damn Maan, what were you thinking when you agreed to her stupid demand? She is known for landing herself in problems as if all the problems knows her address only. But who asked you to be dragged into this mess?" He chided himself mentally for the new problems he has invited for himself without a second thought. He was unable to understand the reasons behind saying yes to her. All he knew was, he couldn't see her upset. He liked to see her lively, bubbly, teasing around and not withdrawned into her shell. Specially her sweet laughter. He thought with a smile of his own.
"Maan, bete dinner is ready. It's already been more than 45 minutes you are in there. I'm hungry and waiting for you downstairs. Make it fast bete." Dadima's words broke his chain of thoughts and he quickly closed the shower coming out of the cubicle drying himself with a towel.
"Coming dadima" He replied her getting ready and coming out of his bathroom.
"Yeh ladki mujhe pagal kar degi" He muttered beneath his breath coming out of his room and going downstairs towards the dinner table. He cursed himself for losing track on time and making Dadima wait and come upstairs to call him. All because of one woman, Ms. Geet Handa. He thought annoyingly and sighed heavily joining his Dadima for dinner.
