part 5
Mr Handa was sitting in his room, it was the next morning 5 am, though he was an early riser but would wake-up by 6 am if had no commitments, he was all lost in his thoughts and only thing in his thoughts was his daughter Geet and her future...it was time for his princess to get married and go where she actually belonged. However strong a man may be, the thought of parting from his daughter can always manage to bring some tears in his eyes. Though he was angry currently, but could not control his emotions when alone.
Though he was a man of plans and had already planned of Geet's marriage as soon as her results are up as she wanted to marry only after getting the degree, and he had also said he won't force her on that part. But the destiny is always more powerful before any plan...probably that's why they say
"Man proposes, God disposes".
He sighed, and recalled how his behaviour and anger troubled his family, his 2 most precious possessions his wife and daughter...he's glad that they love him so much that they never complained of whatever he says in anger as they very well know at that time his heart and mind are shut and only anger speaks.
But he was very helpless this time as this was the most sensetive issue for him as he simply HATED love marriages, not that he HATED love or didn't believe in it, but sometimes some incidences may just change your perception to life, also by his own personal experience he had a strong belief that "love happens only after marriage".
He also realised that he is being unfair to Geet right now, by asking her such questions, not that he didn't trust her, he just cannot stop himself from making sure about it, as there's only one thing in which he can never compromise and that is Geet's happiness.
As these thoughts were running in his mind, he decided to review all the events that happened since the last evening, the root cause of all the mess, when a young man came to meet him in his office.
-------fb------
Yesterday 6 pm at Handa's office
Mr. Handa was sitting in his cabin reading some files when his intercom buzzed. His secretary informed him that CA Maan Khurrana is up to see him. He was about to refuse, but somehow couldn't, maybe that was the power of the two letters "CA" before his name. He asked his secretary to send him in.
He heard a knock after two minutes and allowed the person in. A young man in his late twenties, looking quite professional yet handsome in his formals, entered his cabin and greeted him. Mr. Handa asked Maan to sit.
Mr. Handa : so what brings you here Mr Khurrana..?
Maan (spoke making eye-contact with him) : Well sir, I would directly come to the point as I don't know to beat around the bush and believe that both your's and my time is precious.
Maan paused for few seconds waiting for a reaction. When Mr. Handa gestured him to continue...he spoke again.
Maan (spoke softly but confidently) : I am here with a proposal. I want to marry your daughter.
Mr. Handa was taken aback with this sudden proposal, though he was planning for Geet's marriage and had already asked the broker to look for prospective grooms for Geet, but didn't expect the (prospective) groom himself to come straight with proposal that too so early.
Mr. Handa was processing Maan's words while Maan was waiting for his reply.
Since Mr. Handa was very shocked and loss of words but didn't wanted to show that to Maan, he decided to play safe for a while and know the whole of Maan's side of story, obviously he had heard Maan's name in the market as one of the successful CA's and perfect in his work so wanted to give him a fair chance.
Mr. Handa (spoke finally) : Don't you think...your father should be here with this proposal and not you...? As such matter's need an elder's advice.
Maan (answered with straight face) : No i don't.
To this Mr. Handa gave a confused expression..Maan continued
Maan : because I don't have one.(he paused again, and spoke again with a disgust this time)
He's dead.
Maan answered with a hint of hatredness on the mention of his father, which was enough for Mr. Handa to know what he actually meant by DEAD...!
Mr. Handa was again taken aback with his straight forward approach and confidence on himself. But he he needed something more to judge him fairly as we cannot judge someone by the nature of their parents or anyone else for that matter.
Mr. Handa : And why do you think I should accept your proposal. I know you are a well established person, good-looking, self-sufficient and successful, but you are not the only one with these qualities there are many others out there too.
Maan : I LOVE HER ( he said, as if using his last weapon or what we call a brahmastra)
But what Maan didn't knew is this was a bad move, as soon as those three words reached the ears of Mr. Handa he stiffened, and that reaction of his didn't go unnoticed by Maan.
Maan for a second thought that he made a mistake by saying that, but than he thought how can loving someone be a mistake...? It was a god's gift to man, the most beautiful feeling.
While this was going on in Maan's mind, Mr. Handa was badly fuming, hiding it behind his stiffness as he hated to show his emotions to anyone, and it meant anyone at all, his mind was stuck at the word LOVE and he could never approve of that no matter what. So he decided to dismiss Maan, which Maan could read from his expressions. So before Mr. Handa would ask him to leave, Maan decided to speak..
Maan : its been...
But Mr. Handa stopped him by showing his hand and spoke-up sternly..
Mr. Handa : well young man, I have listened to your part of the story. Now, I would like it if you wait for my response, leave you contact details with my secretary, I would get back to you as soon as i have decided upon you proposal. please excuse me now.
Saying this he shifted his gaze to his file, indicating end of conversation and gesture to Maan that he may leave.
After Maan left, Mr. Handa immediately dialed his broker (marriage broker) who also happened to be the brother of one of his friend and asked him to get him a list of best proposals for Geet asap. But the broker said it will take time, and he can give it at the earliest by day after tomorrow early morning, he had to agree having no choice.
He was now fuming in anger, the only thing he was dreading all these years since gest's birth was she getting into this mess, he had already made it clear to Geet and Rano that Geet is not allowed to be in love, and he knew she won't do something like that but then if all say "pyar kiya nahi jaata...bass ho jata hai" then there must be some truth in it...also he thought "taali ek haath se nahi bajti (you cannot clap with one hand)"
and all these thoughts just added up to his anger taking it to the 7th heaven.
With this state of mind, he decided to go home late so that he can buy sometime to think on the issue in all possible ways...but as the time ticked by...his need to go to Geet, ask her this question and hear a no increased like anything, turning his restlessness to anxiety and anger.
Then his thought went back to his past, he had only remembered his hate to love marriages and burried the reason deep somewhere in his heart.
He recalled that it was around some 30 years ago when he lost whole of his family in an accident, though he was already young around 20 in age, but was vulnerable and alone, it was that time when his Mamaji (maternal uncle) helped him in all the possible ways be it physically, morally, emotionally or financially.
In just 2-years he had a new small family with his mamaji-mamiji and sister Meena, who was elder to him by 2 years...everything was smooth when one day suddenly his di eloped with her lover, got married to him and returned with him...mamaji immediately disowned her as he never believed in love and upon that eloping was highly unethical for him, a bigger crime than committing a murder. Soon after that mamaji had a major heart-attack and died...mamiji's death followed shortly as she could not bear 2 shocks back to back.
But in all this one person, who even after surviving just couldn't take the pain, as his whole world collapsed again in front of his eyes, and that was the last day he believed that a feeling called LOVE between a man and woman who are not already bound by the sacred knot is not SIN. The last day he had expressed his emotions. And rest was all history
.
Mr. Handa : NO..! that can't be...my daughter can never do this to me.
He shouted and his thoughts about the past broke with his own voice.
He decided to end all this up asap, and left for home.
more of this part in the next post..coming up shortly😉
