"He's become obsessed with it. It's all he talks about, all he lives and breathes and possibly even dreams of."

Geet handed Dev his coffee and wrapped her hands around her own, enjoying its warmth.

"I'm sure his lovely wife occupies his dreams most nights," Dev winked and laughed when he saw Geet's expression. She tried to remain stern and look offended at first, but she gave in and couldn't help but laugh with him too.

She had known Dev since their university years, and subsequently it was through Dev that she had met Maan. Eventually she developed a romantic relationship with Maan but her friendship with Dev remained strong and it was something she cherished dearly.

He knew her more than she knew herself, and she loved him for it.

"So, when is Devendra Malhotra getting married, hm? Enough of this bachelor business, I want to see wedding bells and dance to dholkis."

He shook his head after taking a sip. "I told you Geet, I'm not ready for marriage."

"You're nearing 30 you old spud, if not now then when?"

"I'm happy being single and focusing on my career." Geet looked at him skeptically and he smiled in response. "Really, sachi, dil se."

"Okay okay, enough of the melodrama. I want you to try these wholemeal cookies I picked up from the bakery - yes, I know they sound appalling but they're surprisingly appealing."

She rushed off to retrieve the cookies and he turned his head back to watch her rummage around in the cupboards. A smile graced his face as he enjoyed the calm and serenity her presence always brought to him, but the smile faded as her questions about marriage replayed in his mind.

How could he ever tell her that she was the reason for his constant refusals? That he couldn't imagine another woman in his life? That their friendship was so vital to him that he couldn't bear risking it for a wife and a family?

Geet returned with the cookies, breaking his chain of thought. He took a bite, listened to her never ending narrations of events and prayed to God that she would remain this way forever.

Geet-Dev equation in past - it seems for Geet he was always a friend but for Dev it was always her at the back of his mind . Its heart-breaking to even think Geet-Maan at this stage since I read the previous updates again . Eager to know how it all happened & each landed up in this situation .

"Have you decided to abandon your life here for something more exotic?"

"You're annoyed with me, aren't you?"

Geet sighed as she leaned over their bedroom balcony, overlooking the beautiful Californian sunset. "You haven't even called to update me on the situation, Maan."

"I know and I'm sorry. Things have been crazy here, I just haven't had the time."

She frowned as she heard the faint sounds of a pool table and music in the background. "Are you getting yourself drunk?"

"Of course not, I'm here with the star of the show."

"You've lost me."

There was a palpable silence before he spoke. "Geet, I found her. The lead role to my drama, the woman who we've been seeking for months on end."

She forgot her past grievances with her husband as a surge of excitement rushed through her. "Really? You found her? What does she look like, send me a picture, let me talk to her on Skype. Actually, I want to talk to her now!"

Maan laughed. "Calm down darling, you'll freak her out. When we fly back I'll introduce you to her properly. We can have dinner when everything is settled."

"I am so happy for you Maan, you really deserve this. It's going to be a huge success, trust me."

"Anything I do is a success as long as I have my muse by my side."

She smiled, a smile she knew would reach him. "I'll leave you to converse with your leading lady, call me first thing tomorrow okay?"

"Of course. I love you."

"I love you too. Take care."

She cut the call and squealed in delight as she replayed his news in her head. Unable to keep her happiness to herself, she dialled Dev's number and narrated the recent events.

the beginning of distances...

Maan's obsession as mentioned by Geet, craziness for the drama, throwing himself completely into it to achieve the success..but then he forgot Geet in all this, he did not have time to call her, while Geet was truly happy and excited for his project.
