PART III. MUJHSE FRIENDSHIP KAROGE!

It was 7 in the morning. Geet had gotten up earlier and now was adjusting her bedsheets. Suddenly she remembered something and sat on the bed while huffing. She was feeling so guilty. Hey Babaji! Yeh maine kya kar diya! She thought while looking up. Kal maine Maan se kitni rudely baat kiya! Bechaare kisi kaam se aaye the aur woh baat kiye baghair hi chale gaye! Sab is file ki wajah se! She glared at the file lying on the bedside table. Pinky had left it at Geet's bedside table and Geet checked everywhere except that place. In was only when Pinky came home in the evening that she got the file. Agar yeh file ko dhoondhte hue mera mood kharaab nahi hota toh main Maan se is tarah kabhi baat nahi karti! Agar main is file par naaraaz nahi hoti toh main apna ghussa kabhi Maan pe nahi nikaalti! Agli baar jab main Maan se milungi toh main unse maafi bhi maangungi aur chup chaap unki baat bhi sunungi! She nodded and walked off.

Geet went to make tea. Last night Pinky and her father had gone to Hoshiarpur to do Shraadh of Pinky's mom so Geet was left alone in the house. Generally Geet would have gone too but today the results of one of her interviews were to come and hence she decided to stay back. She was about to put the chai patti in the water when the bell rang. Itni subah subah kaun aaya? Kahin koi chor toh nahi? She gulped. Then she shook her head. Geet puttar! Aisi baatein nahi sochte! Then she bit her lip. Par iss waqt hoga kaun? Jaroor kuch gadbad hain! She gulped again and looked here and there. Suddenly, her eyes reached a danda lying nearby and she smiled happily. She picked up the danda as the bell rang again. She shuffled towards the door slowly and raised the danda. She opened the door and was about to hit whoever was standing in front of her when, "GEET!", the intruder roared. The danda slipped from her hands as she realized that it was Maan on the doorstep. Maan glared at her and shouted, "Is tarah tumhaare ghar pe mehmaano ka swaagat karte hain kya?" She winced and mumbled, "Sorry!" Seeing her sad face, Maan took a deep breath and mumbled, "Theek hai!" Geet smiled at him and he resisted the urge to roll his eyes again, "Ab darwaaze par hi khadi rakhogi ya andar aane dogi? Ya kal ki tarah darwaaza muh pe de maarogi?" Geet's eyes widened and she resisted the urge to reply back. Aaj nahi Geet! Aaj koi jhagda nahi! Kal jo hua uske baad toh bilkul bhi nahi! She moved aside and allowed Maan to enter. Maan frowned as he looked at her. Ise kya hogaya! Ab tak toh iska jawaab aa jaana chaahiye tha! Yeh jhadga kyun nahi kar rahi?

Geet wondered how to ask for forgiveness for shouting at Maan yesterday without any reason when Maan sat down on the sofa. Geet noticed that he was dressed in jogging suit and realized that Maan had come here right after completing his jogging. "Main aapke liye chai laati hun!", she whispered and walked away all the while playing with hem of her kurta nervously. Maan was about to say no for the tea but by that time she had entered the kitchen. He frowned; Yeh aaj itni sweet kaise? He did not know that this was Geet's nature and it was only his words which provoked Geet to the extent of fighting with him. He got up and walked towards the kitchen. He entered it and stopped for a while to admire Geet dressed in her night suit standing in front of the stove. She was dressed in a figure hugging Salwar kurta without the duppatta. While her salwar was of white color her Kurta was white with blue polka dots. Geet looked pretty cute in it; Maan absentmindedly thought.

Geet turned to take milk from the other counter when she noticed him standing in the door frame. She smiled ar him and he smiled at her absentmindedly. "Aap kuch khaayenge?", Geet spoke while pouring milk in the tea. Maan shook his head but noticing that she was not looking at him he replied verbally, "Nahi!" "Soch lijiye! Mujhe pata hai ki jogging se pehle aap kuch nahi khaate!", Geet spoke softly while putting crushed ginger in the tea. Maan looked at her in shock and then smiled, "Daadima ne tumhein bataaya hoga na?" She turned and shook her head, "Nahi! Observation powers! Mr. Khurana!" She gave him a cheeky smile and pulled put two cup and saucer set. "Aap do minute rukenge toh main aapke liye paraathe bana sakti hun!", she persuaded him while pouring the tea in the cup. He was about to reply negatively but then changed his mind, "Theek hai!" He turned and walk away to the hall. After a while, she entered the hall with the tea and parathas. He was about to eat the paratha but then looked at her. Anticipating his question, she mumbled, "Baad mein nahaake khaaungi!" He ate the parathas enjoying it thoroughly. "You are a good cook, Geet!", Maan mumbled. He was very much surprised to see Geet blush at his compliment while shyly looking down. As he took the tea and drank it, he was surprised to know that she had put exact amount of sugar he took. He looked at her in surprise and mumbled, "I guess tumhaare observation powers ne tumhein bataaya ki main kitni shakkar leta hun!" She shook her head, "Daadima ne bataaya tha!". She giggled while he shook his head with a smile on his face. Soon, she had her tea and both started chatting about her studies and job opportunities. He was shocked to know that Geet was a very amicable person behind all the fights and arguments. She was intelligent and wise too. He wished he had befriended her earlier itself. She would have been a good soundboard to his business ideas. Soon, the tea was over and they got up. "Main chalta hun!", Maan whispered and Geet nodded. They walked towards the door, Maan with the intention to go out and Geet with the intention to close the door. Right at the time he stepped out of the house he turned and smiled at her. She felt her heart beat build up at his smile. "Main chaahta hun ki hum dono friends bane!", he spoke and raised his hand to shake. Geet stood there in shock at his words. Thinking that she did not want his friendship he mumbled, "For Daadima!" She smiled and shook his hand. He smiled at her and walked away. She closed the door, turned around and pressed her back to the door trying to control her fast beating heart. She closed her eyes as she slid down towards the floor. She sat on the floor hugging her knees to herself. Hey Babaji! She thought sadly. Jab unhonein kaha ki woh mujhse dosti karna chaahte hain maine toh yahi socha ki shaayad woh mujhe pasand karne lage hain! Laga ki mere sapne poore jaroor honge! Par woh toh sirf Daadima ke liye mujhse dosti karna chaahte hain! Kyun? Babaji! Kyun woh mujhse pyaar nahi karte? Kya main unke laayak nahi? She felt tears trail down her cheeks. After a while, she wiped the tears and mumbled, "Bas Geet bas! Ab ummeed baandhna band karde! Maan tere honge yeh sapna dekhna chod! Agar woh tere naseeb mein hain toh Babaji jaroor tujhe Maan se mila denge!", she looked up and mumbled, "Haina Babaji?"

Maan smiled absentmindedly as he drove to his home in his car. All he could think about was how different Geet seemed when she was not shouting at him. Lagta hai is jhagadti hui ladki ke peeche ek smart aur mature ladki bhi hai! Kabhi socha nahi tha ki itne pyaar se baat kar sakti thi aur aaj dekho woh toh meri dost ban gayi! Lagta hai maine itne saal jhagde mein waste kar diya! Agar pehle dosti ki hoti toh mere decisions ko ek sound board mil jaata, mere soch ko samajhne waala mil jaata! He shook his head. No Maan! Focus on today and not on yesterday! Soon he reached home and parked his car. He entered his house where Daadima and Dev were seated in the dining table eating their breakfast. Maan smiled at the two and walked towards the stairs. Daadima frowned, "Maan beta! Naashta toh kar lo! Ek toh subah subah jogging jaate ho khaali pet aur upar se aaj aap kahin baahar bhi ghoom aaye ho! Yeh theek nahi hai beta!" Maan stilled on the stairs and turned around, "Daadima main khaa kar aaya hun!" He turned back when Dev piped up, "Par Bro! Aapne naashta kiya kidhar? Aaj toh aapki koi breakfast meeting bhi nahi thi! Aur aapko toh naashta baahar karne ki aadat bhi nahi hai!" Maan turned towards Dev with a tender smile, "Main Geet ke ghar se paratha kha kar aaya hun!" Dev looked at Maan incredulously. Maan continued lost in Geet's thoughts, "And Dev! Mujhe ab pata chala ki tum Geet ki khaane ki itni taarif kyun karte ho! She is a fabulous cook!" He turned back while Dev got up and walked towards him grabbing his arm. Maan frowned and turned to look at him. "Bro! But what were you doing at Geet's house?", Dev asked and Maan smiled, "Main usse dosti karne gaya tha!" He turned and walked away while Dev and Daadima stared at him flabbergasted. After a while, Dev came to the dining table and whispered all the while staring at Maan, "Daadima please pinch me! I want to know whether I am dreaming!" Daadima shook her head and pinched him. "Ouch! Daadima itni zor se nahi!", Dev complained as he turned to look at her. He soon forgot his pain and started grinning, "Dekha Daadima! Mera plan asar kar raha hai!" Daadima smiled excitedly, "Ab humaara sapna Geet aur Maan ko saath mein dekhne ka jaroor poora hoga!"
