Resonance
When frequency of yours match mine
Fitting in yours my body, a puzzle redefined
In a heady mix, by the Law we combine
Resonating together, star-crossed we outshine!
Now the air was crackling, suddenly the temperature electrified with the silence that stung between Geet and Maan. Uncomfortably, Geet put the bottle to her mouth and was about to tip it back before Maan's strong firm hand wrapped over hers.
She raised her gaze at his chocolate brown eyes which stared at her with an intensity she'd never known. Never seen. And suddenly; her whole being melted.
But she shot back at him defiantly at once with a scowl.
"Don't Geet, if you can't"
"I want to"
"But I won't let you"
"Oh so you choose now to come and show your I-am-big-man face!"
"What?"
"Go to hell Maan"
She pushed his hand away in defiance. But before she could go any further her wrist was tugged so hard she came twirling down in the gallant tyrant's stubborn arms with his fierce eyes drilling holes into hers. Chocolate brown crackling hazel; while their breaths mingled in heaves...
Her Defiance.
The Stubborn free will; one that collided head on with his. That was his undoing!
That was it; the stubbornness in him was out and in open the moment she had pushed his hand away. The possession ran wild through his veins with every defiant step she took away even as their mouths were inches apart from fusing. With a strikingly smooth and swift tug he pulled Geet by the waist, effectively caging her between his thighs. His hands pressed firmly into her waist, pulling her up into him while his gaze tugged her eyes; challenging to look away. She was stuck, sensuously caged and surprised for a moment as his chocolate brown eyes darkened with intensity.
Maan let his hand travel up to her lower back and pulled her closer; if that was possible. There didn't even remain a hair's breadth between the two bodies which were molding into each other as if they were made to fit in that snugly.
"Maan"
His name rolled over her tongue in a sensuous sigh, breaking through the haze.
Pulling the bottle from her hold, he tipped it to his mouth, all the while maintaining their smoldering eye contact and downed the drink in one simple go. She saw his Adam's apple dance under the liquid he swallowed and her belly liquefied in that one sight. There was a cold madness to that action, a sleek awareness of the crackle which was capable of burning every inch of their world. Slamming the bottle back on the counter behind her, still eye locked with her gaze he closed the arm tighter around her while his other hand snaked up and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. Instead of dropping away instantly, his fingers traced a single smoldering line over her cheek, the most innocent of touches and yet so bold and hot! Awakening her from a stupor of lifetime...
She closed her eyes and shivered under that touch, feeling electrocuted for the first time.
"What did you mean Geet?"
His voice was seductive no doubt, but it also had the innate seriousness, an edge which was an integral part of him. The beer didn't seem to affect him much.
"I...I meant you.."
"I what Geet?"
"You didn't even look my way"
She completed forcefully this time, her tone somewhere between that of a possessive crossed female partner and whining little girl. And contrary to all her expected reactions, she saw him smirk. That sexy little smirk of his which was lethal and illegal! The next Bill in Parliament Geet thought had to ban Maan Singh Khurana's smirk and charge him for the sexy musk he wore.
"Oh! You're so sweet"
He mused.
"Mishty"
"What did you just call me?"
"Mishty. It's sweet"
"Whatever"
She threw her in-the-face attitude his way; not quite buying whatever he had to say.
"I was scared you wouldn't want to look at me again. I thought I'd give you the space for first move...maybe you no more want to be my friend"
He said sincerely and Geet's brain leapt at that; at last finding logic in his ignorance. The man was darn straight forward but hell, wasn't he strange and stupid?
"Oh"
Was all she managed before Vicky and Meera rushed down to them, pulling the two on the dance floor.
The music shifted from popular English hip-hops to bollywood chartbusters and the party began in full swing with everyone letting their guard down and dancing freely.
At once Geet thought Maan wouldn't fit in, that he wouldn't abandon the control that he so possessed and enjoyed and which was necessary to dance. But the next moment he surprised her by pulling her closer and swaying along with her to the fast paced number. At first they were slow on the beats, setting and identifying the other's rhythm, their bodies getting to know the resonance pattern. As music weaved, their moves lost inhibitions and like a rope untwisted they sprung out in abandon with each other. Geet and Maan, as different as Chalk and Cheese, as similar as land and sky had found a resonance which intensified their dance to another level!
His frequency matched hers and created the most intense dance form even on a fast bollywood number. And that was the resonating high, an integral law of Physics which they had come to learn the sensuous way, Geet thought as she smiled in his arms.
She'd never imagined Maan danced, and even if she had; it was a disaster she had imagined. But this was anything but that! Maan danced and grooved with fluidity only regular party dancers had; he surely had attended more parties than he claimed to Geet thought with a sly smile as he pulled her even closer.
"Maan Sir"
She heard a faint noise and loud knocks.
As if the poundings in her head weren't enough!
Geet twisted and turned; pulling him closer and then again shifting back. She writhed again closer to him as the knocks and voice grew louder.
"Maan Sir daadimaa is here"
"What?"
Geet woke up with a start; staring blankly at the wall ahead and then recapturing the information her ears had just heard. She thought it was a dream. Now where her head throbbed and nerves hummed in resigned noise.
"uuuhhh"
Maan's daadimaa?
"Maan Sir...daadi maa is here"
She heard Nakul knock again and suddenly like a heavy bolt the reality sunk in! Maan was sleeping soundly beside her; his head buried in her pillow as he breathed steady. His arm was draped over her and another thrown up in abandonment. And suddenly Geet gasped.
Another night in Maan Singh Khurana's arms. His bed.
Actually her bed; Geet surmised as she took notice of the room and then her clothes. She was wearing his T-shirt over her dress, the zipper down to her spine. Over my dress! Seriously?
Geet restrained an urge to laugh at the crazy situation as the news of Maan's daadi sitting outside dawned back. Surely the most dramatic heroines in the novels wouldn't have to have face such situations; Geet chided looking up at her Babaji...It had been long since she complained him of the on goings in her life! After all, the current dynamic scenario demanded her to update Babaji of all the problems that only found way to her door! Thanks to Him.
And him, she saw the gallant tyrant sleeping soundly.
"Maan"
She called out to him.
No answer.
"Maan"
She shook again to no avail.
"Maaan daadimaa is waiting outside"
She shrieked in his ear jolting him up in an instant.
"Huh?"
He stared at her blankly, still not fully awake. With a sigh he pulled the duvet and her back to bed not completely in sense.
"Maan wake up you idiot. Daadimaa has come"
She dodged him.
"Shit"
He shot up in an instant as the news dawned at last.
They both looked at each other alarmed; half naked, semi dressed (to be descent); they were sleeping in the same room in the same bed. What was daadi maa to conclude out of that! This suddenly felt embarrassing as Geet scooted up and out of bed.
"Geet wait. Get changed. I'll manage Daadimaa. You don't need to do this"
Maan called out alarmed when he thought she was going out to meet his grandmother in this dishelmed state.
"Who said I was doing this. You have got us in this fix Maan Singh Khurana and you will get the mess cleared."
She flared in anger before scooting into the bathroom with a change of fresh clothes. Nakul still pounded at the door in horror while Maan heard his daadimaa's voice over him.
"I am coming"
Maan declared loudly as he fixed his half open shirt and messed up hair before opening the door into the den.
The lion's den.
To be precise, lioness's!
Maan thought to himself before stepping out to meet his grandmother
----------------------------
Geet could hear faint voices from behind the door of her room; probably Dadimaa was super mad at them; and suddenly Geet realized this was her first meeting with the elderly lady. She had heard a lot about her; known her virtually through Maan's admiration but never met her personally. Even so; she didn't even know if daadimaa knew her. Nonetheless; she'd have to step out at once. So it might as well be sooner rather than later; Geet told herself changing into a T-shirt and slacks before opening the door of her room.
Padding out with a fluttering heart, Geet made her way into the den where the back of an elegant looking lady greeted her. Maan's eyes darted to her from his vantage point near the floor-to-ceiling window and Geet saw the older woman follow his gaze to her.
Class.
If one needed a word a describe Savitri Devi, then it was class.' Sheer elegance oozed out of her presence like a vintage glass of champagne. Probably in her late sixties; the lady had black-brown hair tied neatly in a bun; silvering at the temples and granting her the wise look. She was dressed in a cream saree barring jewels save for a single platinum bangle and a delicate pearl necklace. Geet was in awe of her soft face; beautifully sharp features and a sweet smile adoring her lips as she looked at Geet.
"So you are Geet"
She exclaimed with a subtle enthusiasm; her eyes radiating mirth, and half of Geet's nervousness evaporated instantly at that smile. She herself smiled a subdued smile walking slowly down the hall.
"Namaste... "
"Daadimaa"
Savitri Devi added when Geet hesitated how to address her.
"I'm so glad to finally meet you"
Daadi exclaimed seating Geet with her on the sofa beside while Geet's eyes darted to Maan with a million questions. Dev had said Maan never told anyone about his life in Mumbai; then how did daadimaa know about her?
"Daadi maa I guess we'll freshen up and then take breakfast together"
Maan tried to escape the current situation which was about to explode with questions whose answers were complicated.
"I thought you told me Geet had freshened up. Haven't you beta?"
She asked looking back at Geet and she nodded; apparently sandwiched between grandson and grand mom.
"And what have you'll been up to last night?"
Her narrowed gaze stole the breath out of Geet even though it was directed at Maan.
"Dev came back fully knocked out. Thank god for his tipsy state that he told me you were in town and that...Maan you had an accident four days back?"
Savitri Devi questioned as if suddenly realizing the core matter.
Maan cursed under his breath while Geet looked on, testing the waters and seeing if Daadi maa indeed was as stern as Maan used to tell her once.
"Actually, daadi maa it was a minor brush up"
Maan tried to lie but his sound chocked like it always did when he lied; this time more so with Geet's Liar-liar' gaze burning through him. On top of that; his bandaged chest and the bruise over the cheek shouted of his lie!
"I'll need to talk this over with Adi"
Daadi maa suggested knowing full well her grandson's escape routes and Geet laughed inwardly at poor Adi's plight. From smoke into smother!
Little did she know her own condition would soon resemble the proverb!
"That's not the point though. Maan you've started been too aloof lately; I haven't seen you since three weeks; you've had a trip to India and back and..."
"Daadi maa"
Maan came down on his haunches in front of her; putting his hands over hers and best foot forward at pestering her.
"I'm sorry"
He said in that cute little tone of his Geet had seen for the first time. Sorry was a word he didn't use too often; though Geet was familiar with his apologies. But she was the only one hearing that from him save for his grandmother.
"Chote saab"
Nakul intervened the moment and the three looked back at him.
"Max is here"
Instantly Maan was up on his feet; like a jolt had passed down.
"I need to attend this, ladies. Give me a minute"
He looked at the two, leaving no space for protest and they nodded in affirmation.
Maan sprinted out of the den and in the direction of his study leaving the two ladies by themselves. Only Babaji knew what went on inside that study of Maan's between him and Max! Geet thought eyeing the door suspiciously.
Now that they were left alone, Geet didn't know what to say; she knew so much about daadi maa but revealing that would mean more questions. Talking to her about common topics would mean telling her that she was special to Maan; that friend' from Mumbai. And for all she knew; Geet didn't want to complicate matters any further. If she knew she had to walk out at the end then why stake so many hopes and hearts on her way. Especially of this old woman who was piling dreams of her stern aloof grandson with her.
"I am so glad to see you Geet"
Savitri Devi said sensing the awkwardness.
"You know; I had practically given up on him. When he'd gone to Mumbai and I shifted here with Dev and Annie...I wanted him to come out of the trauma in a new place. But somewhere in heart of my hearts I knew it was impossible. He had faced his parent's death at an age when he was the most sensitive and since he thought..."
Daadi stopped midway realizing too late that she had probably spoken much more than required. She looked away warring whether to say something more.
"He thought he was responsible for their death"
Geet completed her sentence and Daadi maa was surprised beyond imagination. Any doubts she had about the girl were washed the moment Geet said it. Maan had trusted her with those days of his life, Savitri Devi thought with a gleam as Geet looked on. The older woman only smiled sadly and nodded.
"He still does."
Geet murmured sadly; knowing this topic was a hard limit they hadn't ventured into since they met again. But then; it had been a hard limit even then!
Resonating! Aren't they?
So how was it? Again a mix of passion and drama😉
