This update has left me amazed at the variances in human nature.
As I read the whole chapter all I could say to myself was, how can there be such evil in the world and yet again I said to mysellf, how can there be such innocence in this world.
I yoyoed between feeling mad and sad, yet hopefull through the whole thing.
I was mad at Balwinder for whatever it was that stopped him, from opposing his father earlier. If only he'd acted a little sooner, that child wouldn't have had to suffer the pain she is going to face eventually.
Yet, he has somewhat redeeemed himself by calling up Mhinder and Rano.
I was disgusted with Pammi for her 'Rudali' act. Not an ounce of real pain in her heart, but just a show put on for the benefit of others.
And I have no words for the patriach of the family, Darji.
I did not understand initially, that he'd had Channi murdered. I thought she'd run away. But when I realized it, I was ready to kill him myself.
This is in essential a child marriage. There is a marathi musical drama writeen in the late 19th century called 'Sangeet Sharad', where an old man wants to marry a young girl for to beget heirs for his property. We are more than 100 years down the road and yet tthese things still happen so very commomly, just as shown In Chidi's case. Are we really progressing, or are we regressing.
As for Chidi, her every word hurt and I cant express the renewed rage her words caused me to feel towards her family. Such innocence, oh God such innocence. I wish that Mohinder had been able to reach her before she had been violated, but more than that I am really, really glad that Chidi has Mohimder and Rano with her. A mother and father in every sense of the word.
Just an amazing update filled with various human nuances.
