Chapter 60"Geet Madam, the phone call is for you," spoke Nakul politely as he handed her the phone.
Geet had no idea who might be calling her at that early morning time, but she still gave a very polite, "Hello," into the receiver.
"Geet, what are you doing at home?" came the almost frantic question from her childhood friend. "Why aren't you at the office? Mr. Chopra is here to meet with you."
"Pinky, I won't be coming to the office anymore. I quit last night."
"Quit! You can't quit!" There was a sound of rustling, and then Geet could hear a muffled whisper, "Adi sir, Geet just said that she quit."
"Geet, this is Adi speaking. What is this Pinky just told me? How can you quit?"
"Ask that question to your 'Maan Sir'," Geet bit out, anger still audible in her voice when she thought back to the previous night's happenings.
"I can't. Maan Sir is on a flight to France right now. Didn't he tell you about it?"
"France? He went to France? But...No! It's none of my concern anymore, because I don't work there anymore."
"Geet, please! I don't know about you not working here anymore, I just know that we need you. Mr. Chopra wants to speak only with you since Sir isn't here. Sasha is occupied at the moment, but I don't know how long that will last. Please come in, Geet. The company needs you. I need you!"
"Alright, I'll come this one time, but that's it."
"Great," responded Adi quickly, not letting Geet say anything else. "Come as fast as you can."
"Adi sir, why did Geet say that she quit?" asked Pinky nervously as Adi put down the phone.
"Shhh!" hissed Adi while looking over his shoulder. "I don't want any rumors to start spreading. If Sasha should get wind of anything...I don't want to even consider that possibility."
"What do you think happened? Do you think they had a fight?" whisper Pinky after she also checked to see if anyone was listening to their conversation.
"I really don't know. All I know is that Geet disappeared from the launch party yesterday. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now..."
"But Sir, I don't want Geet to...you know...She's the only one who can handle DD and since she started working as his secretary, Khurana Constructions has actually become kind of a pleasant place to work sometimes."
"Pinky, it does no good to speculate. What I want you to do is keep quiet about this and make sure that Geet goes right to the conference room where Mr. Chopra is waiting when she gets here. Meanwhile, I will make sure that Sasha and Tasha both stay occupied and then make my way to HR, where I will discretely try to find out the truth."
Pinky agreed to do as Adi said, hoping that everything would turn out alright. When Geet finally showed up, rather than grill her about what happened, Pinky hurried her friend off to meet the client. After that, she went back to her desk to phone Adi, letting him know that Geet had arrived. When Geet was finished with the meeting, Pinky had to calmly wait at Reception, acting like she didn't want to desperately be inside Geet's office where she and Adi were having a very necessary conversation.
"What do you mean, he doesn't have to accept my resignation?" questioned Geet furiously after she heard Adi's stuttered explanation to her demand about what was going on.
She had found the torn letter laying lonely in the waste bin soon after she had entered the room. As Maan wasn't there, she naturally turned to Adi with her questions. She was told that HR had no record of her resignation, and that it would not be valid without Maan's approval. She could chose to walk out before her yearly contract was finished, but that would lay herself open to legal action. Geet couldn't believe that there was nothing she could do, that there was no way to leave without Maan's agreement. Though he was clearly uncomfortable speaking to her on the subject, Adi assured her that unless she had the boss's acceptance, she would not be able to leave the job without facing unpleasant consequences.
"Look, Geet. I really don't want to get into the middle of this. You'll just have to take it up with Maan Sir once he returns. Until then, you are still officially employed by Khurana Constructions and Maan Sir's secretary." That ringing prounouncement left Geet feeling she had no other option but to continue working in KC, at least until Maan came back.

"Hello, this is Mr. Khurana's secretary speaking," said Geet, happy to finally have something to do after the very slow morning.
"Geet?"
"Yes, who is this speaking?"
"Geet, it's Raminder Singh. You left a message with my assistant for me to contact you. I called the Khurana mansion and was told that you were at the office."
"Oh, Uncle, I'm so glad you called. I really need your help."
"What happened, Beti? Is it your family again?"
"No, Uncle, not exactly. I can't really tell you while I'm at work. I'll be finished in about an hour because we have a half day today. Is there a number that I could call you back at once I get home?"
"Actually, I am currently at Indira Ghandi International Airport in my way back to Amritsar. If I take a later flight, we could meet in person."
"Could you do that, Uncle? It wouldn't cause you problems?"
Raminder assured Geet that he had no problem. Finding out when she would arrive home after work, he promised to meet her then. The finished conversation left Geet impatient for the time to pass. The clock seemed to almost come to a stop until it was finally time to leave. Grabbing her bag, Geet made a dash for the exit, ignoring the curious looks of the other employees and Pinky's attempt to talk with her. She didn't care if she drew unwanted attention with her strange behavior, Geet's only concern was that she waste as little time as possible explaining the situation to the famous detective.
Once Raminder had gotten Geet's explanation of what she knew of Vicky's disappearance, along with her request that he investigate, he wanted to speak with Maan. He found it quite strange that the police had found absolutely no trace or clue of the young man, especially when one of India's wealthiest families was involved. Since she was sure Maan wouldn't like that she had asked for his help, she was relieved to tell Raminder that he was out of the country and unavailable. With Savitri also out of the house, Raminder contented himself with questioning the servants, starting with Nakul.
Nakul was willing to help, for he liked the young Vicky very much, but he didn't know anything except that he had gone missing. However, he did help by suggesting they speak with Munshiji, who happened to be at the mansion that afternoon finishing some paperwork for his employer. This turned out to be the next best thing to speaking with Maan, for Munshiji had been with him while he had been in Punjab looking for Vicky. He even had been somewhat involved with the detectives and police that Maan had worked with. Upon Geet's request Munshiji was able to produce a couple files that had what information was available, most particularly the phone number that Vicky's last call came from.
Geet wanted Raminder to stay long enough to meet Savitri, but he had to leave before the matriarch returned in order to catch his flight. Before he left, Raminder assured Geet that he would be in touch as soon as possible. He was confident that he had enough information, that along with his contacts, he might be able to find something that the police hadn't.
Precap"You are the wife of Savitriji's grandson, is that correct?"
"Yes. How is Dadima?"
"I can't say right now, but I think it would be wise to get your husband here as quickly as possible."
"But, Maan is out of the country right now."
"Then, I think it would be best to inform her other grandson of her condition."

"I'm calling to let you know that Dadima was taken to the hospital, sick. Sir is out of town, but Geet madam has called Dev sir to come to the hospital. I thought you would want to know."
