CHAPTER-50
The inhumanly painful gasp was the last thing he heard before Geet collapsed. Maan stared at her as his hands automatically went around her waist, where the wetness of the blood of evident. He wanted to scream out, but, that only happened in movies. He couldn't find his voice, as he saw the bullet which was supposed to kill him had been taken by Geet. He had been so busy thinking about her, that he didn't notice when she stood in front of him, and took the bullet. The bullet which will probably now claim her life.
"Damn it!" he heard Naintara swear, and the next minute there was another shot fired. This time it was perfectly aimed at Maan, but,Geet, even in that bloodied state moved slightly in front of Maan, shielding him with her body and took the bullet again, this time directly on her chest. And, that was when Maan found his voice.
"GEET!!!" The scream was hoarse and louder than he had ever known he was capable of.
Naintara aimed again, but, this time she was stopped by a lady constable. The gun was seized out of her hands, but it took two pretty hefty female constables to tie the handcuffs on her hand and usher her to the police van. But Maan saw none of these.
He held Geet as she finally fell to the ground. His hands were soaked in her blood as she lay there on his lap, her strength fading fast. She looked at him through hooded eyes, and murmured,"Maan'.maan'aaappp'thikk'"
"What do you think you just did?" he roared picking her up in his arms, not caring that he was almost soaked in her blood completely."Tumhe kuch nahin hoga'samjhi tum? I will kill everyone if you don't survive this'and I won't talk to you ever again'." He didn't try to stop the tears which flowed down easily his cheeks,"Don't you dare die on me, samjhi tum? Main tumhari jaan le lunga Geet if you even think of leaving me'you're mine'I won't let you leave me'..you can't leave me'."

"Maan?"
He jerked his head up, and let it fall again as soon as he saw it was not Geet. Daadima sat beside him, and held his hand tightly in her. They were sitting outside the operation theatre, and inside, Maan thought, my Geet is fighting for her life.
"Daadima," he muttered blankly,"Aap Geet se keh dena, ke main usse kabhi baat nahin karne wala hoon. I don't want to talk to her'.woh bohut buri hain' mujhe usse koi baat nahin karni'"
"Maan!!!" Daadima said, with a sob, unable to take the plight of her favourite grandson.
She knew that Geet was inside the operation theatre because Maan wasn't. She had taken both of the bullets which were meant for Maan. One in her abdomen and the other one, the most fatal one, directly on her chest. She stared at Maan who stood beside her, his shirt drenched with his wife's blood and his mouth muttering about how angry he was on Geet.
She stood up and started pacing, while Maan was still muttering. It was Sasha, she thought. It was Sasha who had caused all the problems and misunderstandings between Maan and Geet. She was in love with Maan, but failed to see that he wasn't. She first tried causing a separation between the two of them, by proving Geet has a shallow character and when, that didn't work, she planned to kill her. Daadima shivered as she thought of Sasha's confession a few hours back. There were several attempts she had taken. She had tried to kill Geet in the site explosion. Unfortunately, for her, it was Maan who got hurt. Then, there was the truck incident, in which her own daughter-in-law had helped her. And, today, just an hour back, her daughter-in-law had tried to kill off her eldest grandson and his wife was almost dying now, having saved him. Geet had told her to send the police to the Noida site if they didn't come back in an hour and she did. She closed her eyes in terror as she realized that, for once, the police were on time. Sasha had surrendered, after Maan had ruthlessly slapped her continuously in the hospital just two hours back. She couldn't believe he would ever hit a woman, and that too, her. Naintara was in jail too, waiting for Maan to take legal action against her, while Dev was getting ready to leave for Canada for ever. No one wanted him around anymore. Though, he didn't do anything directly, he never gave anyone a positive feeling. In just one day, everything had fallen apart. Every single thing was ruined. Savitri Devi's family was ruined. The elderly lady sat down on one of the chairs with a bump, as Pari held her tightly, and started crying.
"Kyun? Humare saath aisa kyun hua? I shouldn't have brought Dev and Naintara back," she screamed helplessly. " Maine Maan ki kya halat bana di hain, aur agar, aaj Geet ko kuch'.toh main aapne aap ko kabhi maaf nahin kar sakti'." She sobbed painfully, as Pari held her as tightly as she could, without letting her own tears well out.
Maan sat there, motionless, without any care in the world. It was as if he was aware of nothing around him. He snapped his head up as the doctor walked out of the operation theatre. He rushed up to him, and yelled,"Geet?"
The doctor lowered his head and said, in a low voice, "We got the bullets out, but she is still critical. She has to be kept under observation for 48 hours."
Maan held the doctor's hand tightly, and begged,"Please save my wife. I can't let her die for me. I don't deserve that'she doesn't deserve that'please.."
The doctor held his hand and said, "We're trying our best, Mr.Khurana. We expect improvements, trust me'lekin'."
"Lekin kya?" Daadima and Maan said together.
The doctor shook his head, and let go of Maan's hand. He said, "I'm sorry, but we still couldn't stop the miscarriage. She lost the baby."
"Baby?" Maan whispered, stumbling backwards, when the doctor said in astonishment, "She was 15 days pregnant. Didn't you know that?"
"Geet pregnant thi?" Maan rasped out, sitting down on the chair with a bump, as the doctor walked away,"Geet was pregnant and she lost the baby. Our baby'.meri Geet'.maa banne wali thi'I was going to be a father'"
He held his head in his hands and closed his eyes, wishing nothing more than for the world to engulf him. He wanted to be alone, he wanted to think about his loss, their loss, but he couldn't leave Geet alone. She was still not out of danger.
"I lost the baby, lekin'don't you dare go away from me Geet!" he thought furiously, staring at the operation theatre.
The whole family, along with Yash and Meera fell into a deep silence. This was something they had clearly not expected. The incident with Geet was too much to take, and then, to know that she lost her baby was even worse.
"Pata nahin Geet kaise react karegi'" Meera thought.
*****
It was the longest 48 hours of his life, at the end of which he was grudgingly informed that Geet was out of danger. But her blood loss, and pain had caused her to become too weak for words. The doctor granted permission for one of them to meet her and Maan got up without looking anywhere around him.
He pushed open the cabin door, and saw the gloomy white washed walls. There were machines, cords and wires all over the room while Geet lay in the middle of the bed, with a numerous tubes attached to her body. Maan felt the hot heavy tears crowd in his eyes again, and he put up a determined face as he walked up to her bed, sat on the chair near her head, and turned away from her.
Geet slowly opened her eyes, her tongue and head as heavy as lead. She saw Maan sitting beside her, his face turned away from her. She put one of her tube-attached hands on his and whispered,"Maan?"
He didn't reply and neither did he look at her. His lips trembled, as she spoke, in a painful whisper,"Aap thik haina?"
"Mujhe tumse baat nahin karni," he said, not turning his face towards her.
Geet sighed weakly, and put her hand on his cheek. She tilted her head slightly and said,"Maan'I'm sorry'. Meri taraf dekhiye na'."
"Mujhe tumse baat nahin karni'tum bohut buri ho'I don't want to see you'." He rambled angrily, still not turning towards her, but he held the hand which held his cheek tightly, "Tumhari himmat kaise huwi yeh karne ki? What were you thinking? Kyun kiya tumne aisa? Kuch ho jaata toh? Tumhe meri koi parwa hi nahin hain'.mujhe tumse baat bhi nahin karni, aur tumhari taraf dekhna bhi nahin hain'."
"Maan," she said, a tear dropping out of her eyes, and running down her cheeks, "Main aapse pyaar karti hoon'"
"Jhoot'bilkul jhoot'tum mujhse pyaar kar hi nahin sakti ho," he said, holding her hand and kissing it, his lips trembling on her skin.
"Maine humara baccha kho diya Maan.." she said and the tears trickled down, as she started sobbing.
Maan turned around and hugged her tightly, drowning his own tears into her shoulders. She held him tightly, as her eyes refused to dry up, and they held each other for almost an eternity, lamenting a loss they didn't even know they were going to have.
"Geet'.tumne mujhe bataya kyun nahin?" he said, holding her as tightly as possible, without ruining the tubes and hurting her.
"Mujhe nahin pata tha'I didn't realize it'aur koi symptoms bhi toh'." Geet trailed off, as both of them thought of the one sign, one symptom they had witnessed together.
Just on the morning of the incident, when Geet woke up and got up from the bed, she had almost fainted. They thought it was a mere headache, but it was probably a dizzy spell due to her pregnancy.
"Usske baaremein ro ke kya faida, jiske baaremein hume pata hi nahin tha, Geet," he said, trying to dry his eyes, while still holding onto Geet.
"Maan'mera baccha'" she murmured, when he let go of her and lay her down on the bed carefully.
"Mujhse waada karo, jo tumne uss din kiya woh phir kabhi nahin karogi," he said solemnly, holding her gaze.
She lowered her eyes, and said, "I can't promise that."
"Why didn't you go home when I told you to?" he screamed, his tears leaking out again."Two'it was two bullets Geet. One on your chest. Do you know what could have happened? Do you know what has been going through me for the last 3 days? Do you have any idea?"
"I heard Naintara's voice on the phone, I was scared'" she sobbed, cringing away from him, 'When, I reached there, I saw'." She trembled as the sight sprang in front of her eyes, "I saw the gun pointed at you'and I couldn't think'I just'I just did what I thought was right."
"And, you were wrong. Like always," he bit out.
She was sobbing softly, when he held her face roughly in his hands and kissed her all over. She sighed closing her eyes, as he kissed her tears away and whispered, "I love you."
Geet felt the tiredness close in on her, as he gently lay her on the bed, and stroked her forehead till she drifted off into sleep.
The darkness had cleared away but had drained both of them completely. It was time for a new beginning, a beginning which would be as perfect as some kind of a Fantasy.
Finally, the last part of Fantasy.😭It took me a lot of time to type this, and hence, the delay in updating.😕 I hope you all liked the journey of Fantasy till now.
