ALMOST LOVERS
Chapter Twenty Five
Losing myself
If the clock stopped,
If this moment would linger,
My skin on yours
This is heaven
But every tick and every tock,
The clock moves on, time goes by
And I feel the loss
And this is hell.

Present:
Geet knew the exact moment that Maan came into the house; the door slammed loud enough to echo up the stairs.
Let the fireworks begin! She thought with morbid amusement. It wasn't that she wanted his anger but it was part of the plan. Nothing could be achieved if there wasn't enough fire to burn.
She listened to his thundering sound of his footsteps as he climbed the stairs, the sound echoing her heartbeats.
"What the hell do you think you are doing!" He half yelled as he flung the door open.
Geet just stared at him with ice cool glance, no emotions on her perfectly done face, "What have I done?"
"You met him!" The look on his face was a mixture of anger and desperation, wanting but failing to understand the lady he had given his heart to.
If he could have seen her heart, he would have known the anguish that flowed within her but outside she was poise of calmness, a faade that wouldn't crack. The words were spoken with no inflection, "I gather you mean Rehan. Why are you worried?"
He clenched his fingers as he understood the intent of her words, the question of whether he doubted her. It would be so easy to question her relationship with Rehan but he knew her, the core of integrity that she tried to hide was still there.
"Are you worried that there is something between the two of us?" She taunted, with the tiniest smirks on her face but there was also a sharp pain in her eyes, her very words hurting her as they stabbed him, "Maybe you are worried that I'll fall in love with him again or that I'll finally do the greatest revenge possible."
"If you are trying to make me jealous it won't work" Maan gave an angry smirk, even as he wanted to punch the wall in anger. "I know you"
"Sure" Geet's smirk was more pronounced, "See you don't even need to be jealous. I really don't care but the thing is society does. When an unmarried woman does something, her reputation is smirched and it's the same for a married woman but then again I am used to it. However, whenever a married woman cheats, people question her husband and undermine him. Society can be that fickle darling. Are you able to handle it?"
"Don't underestimate me, I will destroy him." Maan settled for saying, letting his angst again Rehan out.
"You won't do anything" Geet stepped closer to Maan. "Because I am telling you not to do anything."
It was a challenge, to see how far she could push him, test his limits of endurance.
And as he looked at her, he understood the truth of her words. If she told him to stay away from Rehan, he would, "Tell your precious friend that as long as he stays away I won't touch him but…the moment he tries anything, he'll regret it."
"And the moment you touch him, its game over" She gritted the words out before storming out of the room.
Seeds planted.
------------------------------
PAST:
I am in love with you.
The words echoed in Geet's mind, unable to be removed or ignored, she felt them suffocate her. A sense of desperation overtook her as every one of their interactions flashed before her eyes.
Even as she was laying down on bed, she was relieving the past.
How could I be so blind? Did I not see the way he felt about me?
The look in his eyes, the intensity kept flashing through her eyes. Now it made sense but she had ignored it under the guise of good will and friendship.
And then came the sense of guilt, maybe Rehan was right.
Had Rehan seen something that she hadn't? Geet thought anxiously, But no, I've never done anything to further Maan's attention. I was only being myself.
That then raised the question of how she felt about him and that wasn't something she could deal with easily.
She remember the butterflies in her stomach, the current when they touched and the excitement she would feel when she would see him. The moments with him were so peaceful yet filled with energy.
It was impossible to ignore that he was someone significant, someone that affected her.
No, I am not in love with him, she thought with gritted teeth, I will never let myself fall into that trap again. Never weaken for a man.
"Arghhh" She muttered and pressed the pillow against her face, trying to make sense of the chaos that threatened to dispel the minute peace left over in her life.
Right then the phone rang, "Hello"
"Hey Geet" The voice was one that she loved and had always brought a smile on her face but no longer. Instead on hearing Rehan's voice, she could only feel pain.
Geet wanted to scream at him but her inner strength allowed her to reply cooly, "Hi Rehan, what happened?"
"Can we meet up?" His voice held a hint of desperation but still didn't give away the emotions within.
Geet could feel her heart flutter at the request, not knowing what to expect. Should I meet him?
"Okay" She didn't even understand the reasons she agreed but it came out.
Still, Geet Handa never forgets and certainly would never forgive anyone. Even if it was the man she loved, in fact especially if it was the man she loved.

PRESENT:
Sometimes we catapult ourselves into an abyss of never ending pain. It's not within our control to stop neither can we turn away while we watch ourselves destroy the very things that we love.
It was the same force acting on Geet that made it impossible for her to stop from this path that she had paved for herself.
A never ending road to pain. Do I want to burn myself? No! But it is impossible for me to back away now.
She thought of these desperate thoughts as she sat on her Lamborghini Reventon, driving at a speed that was as a close to fatale as one could get.
But it gave her a sense of freedom, the illusion that she could run away. Yet where could one run?
Instead she used the calmness of the drive to think through the plan that she had set in motion, the wheels already turning. She had planted the seeds, a plan that extended beyond jealousy. Jealousy might be a powerful emotion but it was transient and she knew that Maan would be jealous for only so long before he saw through her plan.
But permanence was to strip away the power that made him Maan Singh Khurana and to burn the ego. To make him understand the extent of his mistakes, the repercussions of playing and manipulating her like a doll.
Maan Singh Khurana has his ego and prestige, but Geet Handa had lost that with his actions. So Geet Khurana was going to return the favour.
She recalled the look of pain on Maan's face, pain that she could feel cruising through herself at the moment. So easy to talk of revenge but will I be able to carry it out?
The love she had for him was as much as a motivator for her revenge as a deterrent because she loved him enough that his betrayal stung that much more. If I had loved you less forgiving would have been easier.
Rehan left scars but you shattered me to pieces. He broke my trust but you broke my very belief in love and its integrity. You stole my belief in myself.
And it was that sense of betrayal that pushed her to take the next move.
