I've had some pressure of studies off late. i managed to type something but it's not whole chapter... I'll post an installment tomorrow and finish it by end of the week hopefully. Please bear with me... My vacations are near and then I can give regular updates =D
Edit: I really apologize for this big of a delay. I have two long chapters 😳
Chapter 26
Geet entered the building and headed towards her cabin. Everyone was rushing around to get to their spots and get their assigned work done. Yash was waiting for his boss to enter. This would be the first time he comes face to face with her. He didn't even know till know that the one he worked for is none other than his sister, Geet.
"Fan." Geet ordered as soon as she opened the door. Just then, Yash turned hearing the voice, unknown that she was right behind him. As a result, both of them crashed and the papers from his hands flew up in air and went flying down.
Geet moved a step back. "I'm sorry." She said sweetly and bent down to pick it up. No one would have expected a multimillionaire to be so humble.
"No, it's okay. I'll get it…" He started saying and then trailed away as he looked up to see the face. Flashes of his childhood clouded his brain. It was all a blur. He couldn't believe he was in front of her. All his life, he stayed away because of his promise. And now…
"Are you okay?" she asked. He let out a heavy breath, relieved that she didn't recognize him. It was justified seeing they had no contact and his looks had definitely changed over the long years. He quickly snatched the papers from his hand and got up. A surprised Geet got up as well and walked over to her chair.
"So you're my new secretary?"
"Ye-yes ma'am." He replied, stammering.
"Yash … I've heard a lot about you from Maan. From what I hear… I'm impressed." Before she could go on, her cell phone buzzed. Seeing it was Maan, she smiled and said, "Excuse me," before receiving the call.
"Yes, Maan?"
"Is this a way to treat me? You could have told me you were leaving for office early today."
"Something came up urgently. You were sleeping. I didn't want to disturb you."
"Right, next time, you tell me without thinking about what I'm doing. Understand? Do you have any idea how worried I was?" Maan replied back, angrily.
"Aww. I'm sorry."
"Right, you're going to properly apologize to me with a lunch. I'll pick you up around 1. Your work better be done by then. Else…"
"Ofo! Alright, don't get mad now. I'll see you then. Bye."
With that, she ended the call and smiled at his way of showing concern. By the time she turned her chair around to face Yash again, he was gone. She looked out the glass doors and saw him working. She dismissed the thought of calling him in and went on to checking her own files that needed completion.
Maan came to pick her up exactly when he had told her. Before he could meet Geet, he saw Yash. "Yash! Just the person I wanted to talk to. Listen… in a week, it's my birthday. Though others don't accept it, I know they're planning a party. So I'm just going to invite you too. I'll send you the official invitation when it's ready. You'll have to come, alright?"
"But how can I…?"
"No excuses. If you're worrying about special treatment, then don't. All the employees will be there. So chill up and I'll see you there. Buh-Bye." He walked in Geet's cabin and few minutes later, they walked out. Geet stopped to talk to Yash.
"I'm sorry we didn't get to talk much today. Can you make sure those files are delivered? They're on my desk."
"Sure ma'am." He replied with his head low. She found it weird that he, unlike others, always tried to look away and not hover around her. But a tug from Maan snapped her from her thoughts and both walked out of the building, for a promised lunch
***
It was the morning of Maan's birthday. Geet had wanted to celebrate with him at midnight. But he was out on a business trip and didn't get back until late. She had stayed up to wait for him but along the way, her eyes closed and she didn't even realize. When she woke up, she found herself sleeping on the bed and not on the chair where she was sitting. And she knew Maan had been there late and had picked her up and laid her on bed.
Sitting up on bed, she watched Maan sleeping peacefully besides her. The new feelings she'd been having crept up inside of her again. She smiled, knowing that today was finally the day when she would confess. She even had the time picked out. She moved in closer to him and blew softly yet naughtily in his ear.
He shuffled whining at being disturbed from his precious sleep. She stayed close to his ear and whispered, "Happy Birthday."
He smiled and murmured back. "Hmm."
"Maan!" she shook him, seeing that he wasn't ready to get up.
"Just few more minutes please?"
"Fine. Then I won't say it." She said.
He asked, "Say what?"
"Those three magical words."
Maan's eyes flew open and he jumped up right; sitting on the bed. She giggled. She knew that would make him get up. Quickly, she escaped and got out of bed, before he realized she had pranked him into getting up.
By the time he realized, she was almost by the bathroom door. He picked up the pillow and threw it at her, but she had slammed the door shut by then. "I'll get you!" He promised out loud. And then smiled. This was definitely the perfect way to start the morning and his birthday. Before he could get out and set his foot on the floor, there was a knock on the door.
Meera stepped in with Arjun and their parents. "We heard noises." She said as if to say they're here because they knew he was awake.
They all sand out in a union. "Happy Birthday!" He grinned and they sat around him, Arjun, like a monkey, jumped up on the bed before giving him a hug. And so the day began!
***
Yash held the invitation to Maan's party in his hand. For the hundredth time, he wondered if he should go. He knew Annie would be there and he also knew Geet would be there. It was a tough decision for him. He didn't want to hurt Maan by not going. But he also couldn't be seen by Geet, or that would hurt her! He was in a big dilemma. Finally, he decided upon going just for a while; wish Maan and then leave without coming in the way of Geet or Annie.
On the other hand, Annie was excited for the day for two reasons. It was Maan's birthday and because she knew Yash would come as well. She had made up her mind to convince Yash by hook or by crook today. She was determined to have her brother back.
***
While Maan was getting ready, he couldn't find his tie. He yelled for Geet. "Geet?" She hurried to him from downstairs.
"Where's my tie? I can't find it." He asked when she got there.
She looked at him like he was crazy and then burst out laughing. He couldn't understand why. She walked up to him. He said getting a bit mad.
"I'm asking for my tie. Not asking you to laugh!"
She showed him his index finger as if to ask for one second. She then made him stand right in front of her as he looked in the mirror and faced his back to her. She pointed to his neck and he realized why she was laughing. The tie was already around his neck!
He was flushed. "I knew that." He said to cover up.
"Right." Geet replied sarcastically and had him turn back around to face her. She pulled up his collar so she can knot the tie properly. While she was working on the tie, he was only looking at her and admiring her beauty.
Suddenly, he brought his arms around her and captured her in between. She looked up at him with shock. "Now, what was it that you were saying in the morning?"
She understood what it was about. She played along. "I was saying something?"
He pulled her closer to him. "Don't act smart."
She lowered her eyes as a blush crept up on her cheeks. He continued looking at her. She was a complete bliss in his life. With every passing second, he loved her even more. All the time they had spent with each other. The room around them bared tons of special memories. Each corner held its own story.
Passionately, he said, "I love you." It was the first time he had said it. At other times, he had only made it evident that he did. Never had it said it to her. Surprised, she looked into his eyes. For a second, not believing he had said it. For a second, she thought she was dreaming. And then looking into his eyes, she knew it wasn't a dream. The sparkle in his eyes was proof of that.
He looked at her, wanting her to say it as well. He knew she did as well. As if reading her thoughts, she sweetly touched his nose and said, "Patience Mr. Maan Singh Khurana." And with that, she ducked and escaped from his hold. She rushed to the door before he could react and then stopped; turned; looked at him once; and laughing, rushed out to return back to the decorations.
***
It was night time. All through the day, Maan kept on following her and she kept on staying busy, not giving him a second of her time. She was troubling him on purpose. He would follow her to the kitchen. She would busy herself in helping the cooks. She would then walk to the living room and direct the workers on what to place where. He wanted her attention but also likes how she was making him suffer. That was just the way he loved her.
Just an hour before for the party, she went to the room to get ready and locked him outside. "Oh come on Geet! I have to get ready too." He whined as he banged the door. From inside, he could hear giggles. He swore to get back at her one day. She had tortured him a lot today! No one behaved that way with Maan Singh Khurana! Obliviously, he felt his ego being hurt. Not that he minded of course.
The door was locked but their conversation continued. "The decorations look really pretty." He said from the other side.
From inside, she replied back. "I've done it after all!"
He laughed as she proudly praised herself. Finally! Half hour later, the door opened. He got up from the floor at once. She gave him a pleading look. "I need help." She said cutely.
His eyes stayed glued to her. He couldn't respond. She was wearing a white colored knee length party dress. It was strapped and he wondered what she needed help with. Nevertheless, he walked in when she moved aside. The room was dark with only candles lit. He closed the door as he walked in. When he turned back, she was standing facing her back to the mirror. In the mirror, he saw what she needed help with.
Her back was half bare. He saw the strings undone that were designed throughout her back in crisscrossed pattern. She turned her back to him, hesitantly. He walked up closer to her. Slowly, he held the clothed string in his hands and tied it up, all the while gazing at her through the mirror. She would feel his glare at her. Not once did she look up.
"Are you planning to kill people?" He finally asked.
Hearing this, she looked up and looked at him through the mirror with confused expression. He kept his hands on her shoulder as a response. His touch on her shoulder sent shrivels down her spin as her body stiffened. He moved his face closer to her and whispered in her ear, "You look hot."
The whisper tickled her more and she breathed in a heavy deep sigh, holding it in. She looked down at the floor, her face a dark crimson colored as she prayed the darkness of the room covered her blush. He could see it clearly though. He continued, "You look even beautiful when you blush."
Her heart was beating erratically by now. She knew she had to get out of there before something else would happen. "I need to go." She said and moved away. She didn't run out straight away. For a second, she stood there to control her feelings. She turned to look at him with the purest eyes filled with compassion.
Softly, she told him. "You clothes are on the bed." He looked towards the bed as she said it. He saw a coat with black shirt and matching pants and a tie. Everything perfectly ironed. When he turned to look back at her, she was gone. There was empty space where she stood before.
***
Downstairs, Yash entered the party and saw it blasting in full swing. The whole place was crowded with people talking, huddled in groups. He felt like an outsider. He then spotted Maan by the staircase surrounded by people giving him bouquets and wishing him a happy birthday. He too walked over to him. Maan smiled seeing him, mostly happy that now he and Annie can sort out their problem and Annie gets her brother back.
"Hey! You made it." Maan said loudly over the surrounding noise.
"How could I not?" He handed him his gift. "Happy Birthday. I didn't know what else to get you. I think you'll like it."
"Oh, I'm sure I'll love it." Some businessmen came in to interrupt their conversation. Yash stepped back, insisting Maan carry on. He stayed by the side as he looked around. He really felt he wasn't suited for such high suited parties. Seeing this as the perfect opportunity, Annie came out of the crowd and walked over to him.
She had his eyes set on him since the moment he entered. "Bhai…" she said to get his attention. Surprised at hearing the word, he turned to face her and took in a sharp breath. He started to walk away but she pleaded.
"Please talk to me… Why are you punishing me?"
He stopped. He wanted to tell her he wasn't. But he couldn't. He only wished his eyes would pass on that message. She continued, "Why are you pushing me away? I've finally found a brother. My real family… are you're pushing me away. What have I done? Don't I have a right to be happy…?"
"Annie…" he started.
"No. I get it. I'm not needed right? All my life. No one loved me. It's fine. I can live the rest of my life like this too. Thank you." She said, knowing she didn't mean it but she was just getting hyper-ly emotional.
He tried to stop her. "Annie… listen to me."
"No. I'm done. Thank you bhai… for everything. For making me feel unwanted. It's… thank you. I won't bother you ever again. I'm nobody, right?" She asked and a tear dropped down her cheek. Without waiting to listen to another word from him, she walked away towards the bar and ordered herself a shot and gulped it down without thinking twice.
From a distance, Arjun watched, displeased and hurt seeing her like this. He walked up to her to console her. She didn't resist. She rested her head in his shoulder and let her tears flow.
***
Geet walked over to Arjun and Annie. "Everything okay?" Before she could finish, Annie had her hands draped around Geet, sobbing.
"Why is he being so stubborn?" she spoke through her sobs. Geet could only pat her and console her.
"You know, maybe he has reasons. He's your brother. He can't just avoid you. He'll come around."
"I can't be any more patient." She said with head lowered as she parted from the hug.
"Who is he?" Geet finally asked for a name.
"You know him… Yash…" Arjun replied, seeing that Annie wasn't in the state to.
"Yash? He did look familiar. Look Annie, maybe there is something you don't know. Give him a day or two. If he doesn't come around, we'll do something. I promise. Now smile please?" It was hard to make her smile. "For Maan? He'd be sad knowing you're upset on his birthday." This forced her into smiling a little.
"Now that's my girl. Come. Enjoy and don't be upset." She pushed Arjun and Annie towards the crowd and herself stood there, thinking about Annie and Yash and how it can't be just a co-incidence that both of them were around each other and they turn out to be siblings.
She dialed a number. "It's me, Geet. I need you to find me everything you can find on Yash Malhotra. Urgently." She waited a few seconds to hear the reply. "Yes, tomorrow afternoon is fine. I want all the facts. Is that clear?" The person on the other line said, "Yes ma'am." After that, Geet ended the call, determined to get her answers.
***
On the other hand, Ishwar was talking on the phone. "I think it would be better if you come back now."
Response from other line. "You know I can't. I'm already endangering their lives by keeping connection with you. I can't risk it."
"She already knows about him. You can protect them better being close to them. Annie has already found Yash. It'll only be a matter of time before they solve things and Geet finds out as well. For their sake, come back now. It's about time."
No response came for a while, though Ishwar could hear rhythmic breathing, letting him know she was there on the other line. At last, she said, "I'll think about it." she ended the call. Ishwar looked at the blank screen of his phone.
He said out loud in open air. "Devika, it's time for your return."
"She will." Naina spoke from behind, walking in the room, taking Ishwar by surprise. To answer his questions in his eyes, she replied, "I never doubted that you were still in contact with her. Both of your friendship has always been that way. Take my word for it. For her children's sake, she will return. She has gone silent for a long time now. It's time the volcano erupts and truth be out in open. Justice will prevail this time as well."
Ishwar looked at Naina, wondering with good he must have done his past life to have such an understanding and endearing wife… his better half… his soul-mate.

"Geet! What are you doing?" Maan asked as he was being pulled away from the party by Geet. She pulled him in the corner and made a 'shh' sound with her index finger on his lips.
"I have a surprise for you. Now follow me quietly." She said before turning him around and tying a black cloth around his eyes.
"Geet!" he exclaimed and she shushed him just as quickly.
"Do you want the surprise or not?" Maan didn't reply and simply pouted. "Thought so. Now be quiet and come on." She slowly guided him up the stairs from the back so no one would see them leaving. She had picked a good moment as well. Everyone was immersed in dancing.
When they reached their balcony, Geet slowly untied the piece of cloth around him standing behind him. Maan slowly opened his eyes. He looked up straight to find himself standing in the balcony and Geet right behind him. He didn't see anything.
"Why are we here?"
Geet crossed her arms across her chest. "Look right…" He did, waiting to see what was there. He found nothing. "Look left." Again, he did to find nothing. "Up…" He looked at her and gave her a 'seriously?' look when she glared back at him to do it. Having no choice, he did. "And now, look down." He had expected to look at emptiness just like in all other sides.
Instead, he looked down to see rose petals spread out in the shape of a small heart and besides it, the same rose petals read 'Happy Birthday Maan.' He was taken aback seeing the scene in front of him. Before he could move his eyes from it, Geet whispered in his ear. "Happy Birthday."
His hands went around her waist as he pulled her in front of him. Bumping his forehead with hers, very softly, he whispered back. "Thank you."
She smiled close to his face and moved aside. She then revealed a small box she held in her hand. It was wrapped in gift wrapped paper. She held in out in her hand for Maan to pick up. She nodded at it and he took it, knowing it to be his other gift.
"Open it." she proposed. He did. Un-wrapping it, he opened the box to see a simple and expensive looking silver chain in the box. He was too stunned to move. She took it out for him and wrapped her hands around him from front as she tied with looking at him.
"It'll always be with you." It was easy to fasten. She let her hands stay on his shoulder as she continued speaking. "There was once a girl. She met a boy and her life took a U-turn. The girl who wouldn't trust anyone suddenly started trusting you so much that she could stay in the same room as her. Her life was a complete mishap. The boy made it so interesting and filled her life with happiness. The girl who would always be lonely suddenly started enjoying the simplicity of life. One day, the boy risked her life for her. And then, she realized what she shared with the boy wasn't simple friendship. It was much more. The thought of losing him made her realize she loved him."
She suddenly stopped saying the story. She was saying her story in third person form to him. She looked down, shying. She turned to face her back to him. "And what about your story?" He asked teasing her.
She looked at him, knowing very well he was teasing her and only wanted her to actually say it. "My story?" She asked pretending to be innocent. If he was going to pretend, then she was no less.
He grabbed her by her wrist and twirling her, pulled her back. She went crashing in his chest. One hand lay on his chest as he held it while the other around his neck. She looked into his deep eyes, wanting her to get lost in them and sail away. They simply captured her heart. Her beats increased steadily. The gaze with which he looked back at her brought up a light shade of blush on her face.
A soft smile spread on her face as she tilted her head towards the sky and pointed towards it. Maan followed her pointing and a second later, a rocket blasted into the sky as a firework and from the sparks, it spelled "I Love You."
Maan couldn't help but smile happily. She looked attentively at his face to grasp in each expression of his in her heart and remember this moment for ever. "I love you," she whispered as well while he watched it in sky.
Surprised at hearing it, he instantly looked down at her. He didn't need to hear it twice. He was taken aback by the confession. It felt good from within. For Geet, it was a relief to put forth her feelings and tell him instead of having it hide it and continue to run from them. She rested her head on his chest and repeated with a low voice. "I love you…"
He wrapped her hands around her and took her in a compassionate hug. "I love you too." He replied in her hair.
Both stayed that way, hands around each other, sharing the same feelings. It was a confession alas. And to swear, it felt really good to know. He pulled back his face a little to look at the new glow on her face.
Seeing where his eyes fell next, her heart beats rose sharply. She knew he was looking at her lips. Slowly, she closed her eyes. Hesitantly, he moved in closer with every passing second. And then, his lips touched her, passing a jolt through both of them. It was a simple, soft, short kiss on the lips. Because after that, Geet hugged him again, hiding her blushing face in his neck. He smiled at her nave-ness.
