So I thought the scene where Geet's dupatta gets stuck was very meaningful but I am kind of confused as to what exactly the meaning is. So I will put down my thoughts and you guys can fill in the blanks where you see fit. 😊
First of all, I thought it was really interesting that Geet picked up a lamp when she verbally confronted the stalker. His biggest weapon is the dark and so to counter that she picked up a source of light when she asked him to come forward. She pointed the lamp in all directions trying to shed light on the stalker, where he was using the darkness to scare her.
Then her dupatta gets stuck. We have seen this happen so many times with Maan but in that case it has always drawn her closer to him. Here, the dupatta chokes and suffocates her because she imagines it is the stalker holding it and she strains to get away, rather than allowing an attraction to draw her in, like it happens with Maan. Also, this might be taking it too far, but what the heck, when Maan pulls the dupatta she breathes more heavily, more exaggeratedly while when she thinks it's Vikram, she feels her breath being cut off. It's a question of attraction vs. repulsion = Maan vs. Vikram.
Finally she swings the lamp around to fight back, but all she is confronted with is her own fear and more empty darkness. Similarly, with the dupatta, she is being suffocated by her own fear of the unknown, ie, the empty darkness she swings the lamp into, rather than by Vikram. His words are causing her so much fear that she is unable to move nor is she able to fight back.
It stresses what we were discussing the other day about the fear of the unknown. Here we see Geet desperately trying to question and fight back but failing because Vikram is taking advantage of the darkness and refusing to come forth into the light.
I also loved the play on the different senses in showing how Vikram is hiding from Geet. He uses his voice, exclusively, to communicate with her and she tries to cover her ears to block it out. On the other hand, she wants to SEE him and wants him to come forward so she can fight him but he refuses. Finally, with the dupatta, she physically feels his presence suffocating her, before she realises it's not him but her own fear of the unknown that is pulling her dupatta back and choking her.
