hey guys, thanks for your lovely response. sorry for the late update. but here's the ifrst part now. do tell me how you liked it.

Chapter-1
Mystery of Everglades

I had waited for this opportunity for so long. This is the best thing to happen in my 19 years of life. Every part of my veins was filled with excitement. As the approach was closer the adrenaline rush was greater. But did I know that this trip would actually open the doors for me to another world? I'm Geetika S'queira. And this is my love story. Untold and unheard.

My parents Neil S'quiera and Panchi Handa had worked for National Geographic. Both were assigned a trip and that's how they met and fell in love in such a Safari ride. Later they got married and settled here in St.Petersberg, Florida. I was born and brought up here. Freedom unlimited. I'm glad my parents aren't so conventional. Liberty is the right of a child in this country and I was just as equal. So are my friends. Yash, Adi, Meera, Pinky and me. We were like the five fingers of a hand. All were partners in crime. There is one more thing that's common between us. Our origin. Ok ok I'm just half Indian and half American unlike them whose parents are NRIs still I speak hindi and Punjabi. At the end of our this semester we decided to add a new chapter in the book of our lives. We wanted to experience something larger than life, wild and adventurous. That's how Meera came up with the idea of Safari trip and Yash couldn't refuse his beloved. Adi and Pinky agreed. And I was always ready. We are all a group of adventurous souls. So it was decided.

At morning just immediately after the dawn, we all got ready. The sooner we start the better, that was the plan. I was the last one to get picked up. I could hear Yash's jeep horn. I came out with my bag, wearing midthigh length jean loose jean shorts and pink t-shirt with a long shrug. And my new long boots. "hey buddies, everything perfect?" I asked them.
"yeah, just you were late", adi answered.

Pinky looked at me, "wow geet you look pretty!" she complimented.

"come geet, sit here" adi said pointing at the back seat where I could sit with him and pinky while yash drived and meera sat next to him in the front. They smiled at me.

We travelled for a hours. we passed all the lanes, highways, jungles and finally we are here we wanted to. 'Everglades'. That is what this place is called. The smell of wet mud and fresh leaves of plants were just aphrodiastic for me. Adi took out his handycam and started shooting, I must say he's a great photographer and no one can capture nature as good as him. Mira and Yash were flirting with each other in the front and pinky. While pinky and I were enjoying and singing songs. Just so perfect it is. With my beloved ones.

The forest was very dense on our either side while our jeep was moving in the aisle. I'm sure the top view would be very fascinating but the ground view was no less. There was certain attraction towards them which I wasn't able to define.

-"guys, it's almost dusk" Yash said, "So let's spend the night here. The map doesn't show any safer place than this"

We all agreed. He knows better.

-"you must be tired by driving for so long, isn't it jaan?" mira asked ruffling his hair and concern in her eyes.

-Yash smiled, "not really, as long as you are beside me" he took her hand from his hair and kissed it. She blushed.

I somehow felt jealous. I didn't know why, but I was always insecure of Mira. She was very down to earth whereas I was carefree. I never thought of being in a relationship until Yash and Meera happened. Childhood love turned into friendship, so filmy! I was selfish and carefree to always have thought of being single and enjoying to the fullest. But for the past two years seeing them, a small dream weaved my heart. I wished I could just have someone who can just see me, laugh for me and cry for me, for whom I could be the world and he would mean the world for me. Just like a fairytale. Did I know at that time that when I would turn into reality it would be more like a nightmare?

We chose a secure place just few distance away from the jeep and made a bonfire. Forest officials in the set areas were really helpful. Then started the camping and slumber party with of our big tent around. All five decided to sleep in just one tent so that everyone would be together. It would be safer. Pinky and Adi started behaving like hooligans 'jingalala hu, jingalalal hu, hu' we all broke into laughter. Meera was indulged in the map.

-"meera?" I called out.

-"guys", she looked at us, "we are just few kilometers away from the Fakatchee Strands"

-"do we need to go there? This place is just so calm and serene. It's so much fun here" I said.

This place was indeed on of the coolest on the earth yet survivable. But Strands are the place we actually planned to go. It's a great place for camping, fishing and also it supports a wide variety of animal life including rare birds, fishes, alligators and crocodiles. Oh yes, excellent scenario. And we need to cross these Everglades for that.

-"don't forget, we are at the middle of the forest. It would be dangerous if we stayed here longer. We need to keep on going. Its safe only till its dark" meera warned.

-"but meera" pinky asked, "they say that these everglades are too dangerous.."

-"guys we should have visited some Essel world for recreation isn't it?" he said sarcastic. Yeah, he had a point, we didn't come to a recreation park. God damn, it's a safari trip.

-"no yash," pinky said, "I mean there are so many mystery stories over here, in these everglades which they claim to be true" the fear in her eyes could be seen clearly.

-"c'mon pinks, nobody know if they are true" yash assured.

I looked at them in awe.

-"what stories?" I asked

Yash stood up. As if to explain something.

-"big cats" he said opening his eyes wide. He looked at us one by one.

-"you mean tigers?" adi asked.

-"no" yash answered.

-"then.. leopards?" pinky questioned.

-"no" yash said, "panthers"

-"panthers???" I asked, perplexed.

Yash started his story, that this place was once a home for certain black panthers.

-"was? You mean they don't exist now?" I asked.

Yash said no. those kind have become extinct now here. But few attack have taken place which reveal that they were by those panthers. Officials, researches have tried to explore them, but all that they got in result was that they no more exist. Strange it is! Hundreds of years in the lifespan of everglades many exotic plants were discovered, man rare birds were found yet those panthers weren't seen. Stranger was that the nearby tribal villagers could hear their growls on full moon nights.

-"so what do they emphasize?" meera asked narrowing her eyes. Her interest clearly visible.

-"hmm, well.." yash bit his lips "that they reveal their existence only on '"

-I asked, "full moon nights?"

He nodded.

"well they are just legends. People who saw believed and who didn't rubbished them as myths.

All fell silent for a while. It was all so beautiful here. How could this be dangerous? I wondered. Perhaps, my way of seeing is different. Am I seeing the things the way I want, not the way they are?

After few hours, it was dark midnight. But the moon offered a pleasant peace. The moonlight spread at certain places in the jungle. I realized the one who hadn't ever slept under the sky has never seen the sleep of his life. Suddenly all woke up due to the howls and growls of animals.

-"this is no more safe here. Guys lets go to our jeep, now." Yash said.

Everyone started taking their bags. We were about to take out the tent when we heard the sounds between the nearby plants. Our attention shifted there. It was unbelievable. Animals!

We left the tent and started running for our life. As fast as we could.

All out of a blue, I felt lost. No adi, no yash. No meera and no pinky. I was in a place where it was surrounded with complete darkness. Running between the trees was risky. And darkness phobia had returned.

"yash' " "adi.." I called out.

"geet'" I could hear them somewhere. But where??? I feel them close. But still they are far away. I wanted to move. But how? This phobia of mine isn't allowing me. I was hesitating to even move one step. Tears welled up my eyes. I could hear my friends calling me but was unable to react. I didn't knew what I was doing. I was walking towards back. Rubbing my eyes and cheeks in between but no. I couldn't stop.

Suddenly, I felt my back had hit a wall. Oops me silly. It was a tree. I held it as support and fell bit by bit on my knees, on the ground. I hugged then tight, still crying. Please someone help me. then I felt something fluid on my hand. 'what was it on my side? Definitely not a rock, then what. Its very silky?' I wondered. I rubbed it in darkness. 'what's this? It seems big' then suddenly I saw green emeralds emerge from nowhere in the air beside. I got scared at their appearance and what followed had taken my breath away. The moonlight fell on my place it was revealed to be panther. I stood up in a jerk. A black panther.
