PART 3:

The restaurant they were having dinner had live band and Geet loved all their performances.

While having dinner, the band stopped playing and the lead singer spoke, "Hello everyone, I hope you are enjoying your dinner tonight. Tonight, I am going to sing a song specially requested by someone. I believe that there is a birthday girl amongst us, right now having her dinner. (Geet, stopped eating and looked at the singer) This song is specially dedicated to her. The title of the song is, "Angel."

Geet stared at everyone at her table. They were smiling and the lead singer looked at Geet's table.

"This is for you, Geet. Happy Birthday."

The band started. Geet was shocked and she did not believe what was happening. Heer smiled and patted her back.

"Heer, did you know about all this?" whispered Geet

"Let's just say, I do." Smiled Heer

"Heer, who planned this?" asked Geet

"The one you love dearly."

"MAAN?!" shrieked Geet.

Heer smiled and continued with her dinner. Maan was a crazy man but Geet did not expect him to do all this just for Geet. Geet smiled and carried on with dinner.

Dinner was done. Her family members parted by giving Geet a goodbye kiss and her presents. Only her friends were there.

"Are we done for tonight?"

Heer smile again. Geet did not understand the smile.

"Let's just say, the night is still young. Shall we take a stroll everyone?" Asked Heer.

Heer held out her hands to Geet. Geet took Heer's hand. Hand in hand, the best friends walked right behind all their friends.

Geet was busy chatting with Heer and she did not realise that the park they were strolling at was beautifully decorated with hanging orange lights. The park was beautiful. Geet looked around and knew that it has been ages since she came to this park.

This is the park where she and Maan had their first date. She gazed at the lights and was amazed at how beautiful the park looked at the hour.

"Heer, this is beautiful. If only Maan was here…." As Geet said those words, she walked right into Karen.

"Karen, WHY DID YOU STOP?" Geet asked.

Karen did not turn, she was still holding her boyfriend's hand, and then slowly she let his hand go and faced him. Her friends actually made a pathway and she could literally walk right through it.

Geet laughed, "What is going on here guys? This is not funny? Heer did you see….. Heer? Heer?"

Heer was not next to Geet and Geet began to panic.

Geet began searching for her cell in her clutch when, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR GEET, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" Heer was carrying a birthday cake with candles on it and walking through the pathway their friends made.

Geet was in shock and placed her hands on her mouth in amazement. Heer smiled, "Happy birthday best friend. Now make a wish and blow your candles."

Geet closed her eyes, made a wish, and blew the candles out.

Geet cut the cake and fed everyone. Geet then took out her cell and dialled for Maan.

His phone kept ringing but there was no answer. She tried again but there was no answer. She shook her head and reluctantly placed her cell back into her clutch.

"Geet, let's continue our stroll. Are you guys coming?"

Karen and the rest, "No, you two carry on, we are tired."

Geet,"You guys! Come on, let's go!"

"No girls, you carry on. We better head back." Steph said.

Geet shrugged her shoulders and bid farewell to her friends.

"Guess its just you and me, Heer."

Heer laughed, "You, me.You and me….Geet."

Geet did not know the purpose of strolling in the park but she felt at peace that she was doing this with her best friend. However, it would have been better with Maan around.

While walking, Geet spotted something familiar on the ground. She bend down and picked it up.

"HEER!! DO YOU WHAT THIS IS?" Geet in astonishment.

"What is that? Looks like an envelope to me." Heer said

No, look! Maan had given me one of this, this morning and its here."Geet said and flapped it in front of Heer's face.

"Let me open it" Geet said.

Heer was waiting paitently for her best friend to scream in happiness.

Geet opened it, started jumping, and said, "THIS IS FROM MAAN!"

It was the same blue scented card. She took it out and;

Dear Mishti,

I hope you enjoyed dinner and the song was specially dedicated to you.

You are indeed my angel sent from above. I have fallen in and out of love many times but with you, I kept falling in love with you repeatedly. We have been together for very long and we have gone through a lot. I just want to say that, I am sorry for not joining you for your birthday dinner.

Geet could not apprehend how the letter got there. She looked up at Heer and she hugged Heer. Between her sniffles, "Maan is such a sweetheart and I love him very much. I don't know what I will do if I were to lose him, Heer. I miss him more than anyhing now. I want to see him. NOW!"

"Is that what you wished for? Geet?" Heer asked.

"YES! I want to see him before my birthday ends tonight. Just once will do and he can go back to his work. I want to see him and sit with him, right here in this park where we had our first date. We just sat here and talked. I never thought a man like Maan would be the man for me, the man of my dreams. Heer, I never thought I would say this. I want to marry Maan. I want to see him everyday, from the moment I get up from bed to the moment I sleep at night. I want his face to be the first and last, I would see." Sniffled Geet.

Heer stroked her hair and calmed her down.

"Babes, I know about fairytales and how the story ends and I wish that your will have your fairytale ending. Just believe." Heer whispered.

Just as Geet lifted her head from Heer shoulders, Heer said, "I wish you would have your fairytale ending tonight."

Geet turned around and saw Maan on his knees, with a ring box opened and holding it up. Geet was shocked and she started crying in happiness and shock. She saw all the friends around her again.

"Ms Geet Handa, will you marry me and give me the honor of treasuring you for life?"

Geet, had no words. She couldn't even say yes, all she could do was nod her head in between her sniffling.

"GEET, answer him" Heer screamed.

Geet, if you don't answer him I will take him!" Prem screamed.

Geet looked at Prem, stared at him, and looked at Heer. Heer simply shrugged her shoulders and grinned.

"He is still on his KNEES! ANSWER HIM!" Heer screamed.

"Yes. I will marry you." Geet managed.

Maan smiled and stood up and placed the ring on her finger. Geet immediately hugged him and cried some more. Maan hugged her and whisperd, "I love you"

"Why did u do all this? I did not expect all this." Cried Geet.

"You know u are messing my shirt with your tears and your eyeliner?" Maan teased Geet and hugged her even tightly, kissed her head.

Geet looked up at him and Maan looked down on her. Both stared at each other. Maan wiped her tears away and kissed her. Heer and everyone cheered and started clapping.

"I am hungry, can I eat your cheeks please?" laughed Maan

"Its yours, do you have to ask?" Geet joked.

It has been 5 years since Maan and Geet got married. They were happy until the day Geet had to visit her family doctor for her regular checkup.

Doctor: Hello Geet.

Geet: Hello doctor. How are you?

Doctor: I should be asking you that my dear. How have you been?

Geet: I am doing well doctor but sometimes I cannot seem to stand for long and I feel giddy.

Doctor: Ok, sit down. Let me take your blood pressure and your blood.

Doctor: Geet, I have taken your pressure. It looks fine. I would need to check your blood. I will pass the report to you by next week.

Geet: Ok doctor. See you next week then.

Following week at the doctor's

Doctor: Hello Geet. Come in

Geet: Hello doctor.

Doctor: Geet, how are you feeling today?

Geet: So doc, tell me. What is the result?

Doctor: Geet, I am not going to lie. You need to take care of your health now. You have thalassemia, minor.

Geet: What?

Doctor: Thalassemia is a blood disorder passed down through families (inherited) in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The disorder results in excessive destruction of red blood cells, which leads to anemia. I am sure your grandfather had it but it skipped your father's generation.

Geet began to tear.

Doctor: Geet, do not lose hope now. Just be careful and come for your checkup regularly. Tell Maan to call me as well.

Geet: All right doctor. Any medication?

Doctor: As of now no. Just monitor yourself. I will need to take further test on you. If the case is serious, you need to go for blood transfusion.

Geet said goodbye to the doctor and left the hospital.

3 years later...

Maan came to the hospital to visit Geet.

He gave Geet a kiss on her forehead and cheeks. Geet smiled.

"I brought u flowers jaan", Maan said.

"Where are the kiddos?" Geet asked looking for her children

"They are at your parents' and they insisted on coming. I told them I will bring them later." Maan said

Geet closed her eyes, thinking about her children. Maan held her hands and sat next to her. Geet felt sorry for Maan. He does not have to go through all these and here she is lying in the hospital, going for stem cell transplant.

Maan stroked her hair and looked at her. She smiled at his touch.

"Maan, will I be fine? Will they find the donor soon?" Geet asked grabbing his hands.

Maan caressed her face and told her that everything will be all right. Maan then excused himself and left the room. As Maan left the room, Geet shed a tear.

Maan left the room, closed the door behind him and he started crying. He took his cell out and called Heer.

Maan: Hello Heer?

Heer: Prem here. Maan? Hey Maan, whats up? Is Geet ok?

(Maan hears Heer's voice and Prem puts the phone on speaker)

Heer/ Prem: How is Geet? Is she ok?

Maan: She is fine but I am not. I cannot control myself. I cannot bear to see her like this, lying there. She asked me if the doctor find the donor soon. I cant seem to answer her (cries)

Heer/Prem: Maan, control yourself. Prem and I are going to pack up and head right there. (Heer tells Prem to start packing up and told him to call the airport and book for the tickets)

Heer: Maan, we are coming there. Stay strong. We will find the donor soon. Bye

Maan walks into the room. Geet looks him, "Have u been crying honey? Come here you"

Maan walked towards Geet's bed, sat down and started tearing. "I cannot live without you. Who is going to take care of the kids? I cannot imagine this Geet. I cannot. I will lose my mind." Maan placed his head on Geet's stomach and wept.

Geet smiled and stroked Maan's hair and said, "I am not going anywhere, love. I will be right here taking care of you and our children. I am not going to abandon you just like that. You are making me cry, Maan. Please stay strong."

"I called Heer and Prem. I could not take it. Heer said she is coming to Melbourne. Heer said she is also going to help look out for donors." Maan said in between his tears.

"You CALLED Heer? She is in Rome doing her shoot for the new history show. She can't possibly leave it and come here? It will jeopardize her career." Said Geet is shock.

"Nat, she is the in charge and if she wants to call it off for the next week she is able to do it. It will be better is Heer is here too." Maan said

Maan's phone rang.

Maan: Hello?

Caller: …….

Maan: Right away doctor (looks at Heer and helds her arm for comfort) I will see you shortly doctor

Caller: …..

Maan: Yes, I am with her right now. Ok I will see you. Bye Doctor. *click*

Geet looked at Maan, expecting good news. Maan looked at her, stroked her arms, and kissed her forehead. Geet kissed his cheeks.

Maan walked out of the room; before he closed the door, he looked at Geet and smiled. It gave Geet hope that things will turn out better.

Maan walked into the doctor's office, secretly praying that there is a donor.

The doctor looked at Maan and told him to sit down. The doctor told Maan that there have been various donors but none of them matched Geet's blood group. Maan asked if his matched? The doctor shook his head. Maan felt sad and heartbroken.

*TRING TRING*

The phone in the doctor's office rang.

Doctor: Hello.

Caller:……..

Doctor: WONDERFUL!

Caller:…………..

Doctor: ok thank u, right away! *click*

The doctor ended the call and smiled at Maan. "Maan, it is either you or the love you have for Geet. My friend, another doctor called from his hospital and said they found a perfect donor for Geet and their blood group matches Geet's. So, congrats my friend."

The doctor shook Maan's hand and patted him on his shoulders. Maan was extremely happy. He walked out of the room and took out his cell. He dialled Geet's home and told her parents and his children the good news. They were elated.

Next, he dialled Heer and told her the good news. Heer and Prem were happy and relieved and they were still coming over to Melbourne.

Maan was very happy. He ran down to the gift shop and told the woman, "Lady, I need something to give my wife because they have found a donor for her and she will survive. I want to give her something. Tell me what can I give her?"

The old woman at the shop smiled at Maan and said, "Son, what does she like?"

"She loves roses…loads of them." Maan said excitedly.

"Give her roses then. I have many different coloured roses, so you pick and choose." the old lady said.

"Ok, that is a great idea. Do you have a plastic rose as well?" Asked Maan

"Plastic rose son?" old lady questioned Maan.

"YES!" Maan laughed.

"Sure son. I have them. How many do you want?" she asked

Maan leaned on the counter and said, "Just one. One and only."

The old woman understood what Maan wanted and told him she will get it ready within 15 minutes.

Maan waited patiently and watched how the old woman patiently placed the plastic rose in the middle and surrounded it with the real roses. She even added babybreath and a few other small flowers to make it look lovely. Once she completed it, "Here u go son, for the love of your life. That will be $65."

Maan paid her and, "I want to write her something."

"Sure, here you go." As she handed him a small blue card.

Maan looked at it, giggled at it, and thought of what happened during her 23rd birthday.

Maan wrote:

To the love of my life,

I will love you until the last rose withers and die.

Maan thanked the woman and took the bouquet and the card up to Geet's room.

Maan reached her room and went in. Geet was sleeping. Maan smiled and all the more he loved what he was doing.

Maan placed the bouquet on the table with the card. She walked towards Geet and kissed her forehead. Geet stirred from her sleep and saw Maan. She smiled at him. Geet then saw the bouquet on the table in front of her and Maan handed her the card.

Geet saw the blue card and looked at Maan. She saw Maan smirking.

She read the card and was touched. Then she said, "All the roses will die and when everything dies, you will stop loving me?" Geet said sadly.

Maan shrugged and said, "Maybe I will."

Maan took the bouquet and gave it to her

Geet got upset and she looked at the roses. She felt each one of them and whispered to them, "please don't die. I want my husband to love me eternally." She said it to all the flowers until she felt one, which was different from the rest. That flower did not have the velvety feel but felt plastic.

Maan leaned close to Geet and said, "I will love you until the last flower withers and die" and he kissed her forehead.

Just then, Heer barged into the room with Prem. Geet looked at her and said, "What an entrance babes?"

Heers looked at Maan and ask,"So how it is?"

Maan looked at everyone in the room and proudly announced, "Geet has got a donor.

Heer was so happy; she ran to Geet's bed and hugged her and started kissing her cheeks. Prem hugged Maan and ruffled his hair.

Geet underwent the operation that lasted for 8hours. She survived the ordeal.

1 year later

Geet now runs a school with 500 children aged 4 to 12 year olds. She has 50 teachers in the school. Maan is one of her board of directors in the school.

Geet and Maan crossed many hurdles in life, and now they are living happily.
