@sarita21992:
The general plot is on wikipedia but I don't think they highlight the points that are relevant to Geet so I made my own supplementary summary of the story, concentrating on what happens specifically in their marriage :)
"Saathiya" (originally a Tamil movie, Alaipayuthey by Mani Rathnam) is about two young, working people who fall in love and get married secretly, against the wishes of their parents. Rani Mukherjee is on her way to becoming a doctor (she is doing residency or something) and Vivek Oberoi is trying to start a software company. After marriage they try living with their respective parents for a while, without telling anybody but when Rani's parents find out they kick her out and she and Vivek have to live together in a tiny rented house. At first they are excited to finally live together and everything is romantic and perfect, cue upbeat love song, but they slowly start to fight more and more and Rani starts feeling guilty about abandoning her parents when they put her through medical college while Vivek is frustrated that his company is not taking off and they start fighting for small things but not really sharing their major problems with each other so they kind of drift (what I think will happen with Maan and Geet). It all comes to a head when Rani's dad has a stroke and Vivek refuses to go with her to see him because they agreed never to see their parents again. He does agree eventually but when they go to the house the next day, the dad has already died. So Rani becomes depressed and a little resentful towards Vivek. They eventually get perspective when Rani is in a life-threatening accident and almost dies, which I really hope does not happen with Geet. There is more to the story but I am really hoping that part has nothing to do with Geet's potential story so I am ignoring it 😛
