A very good friend of mine is a senior theatre actor in India...she teaches acting in a famous school in Hyderabad and has worked with British repertories etc...she has no clue about the existence of GHSP or even the actors involved...was chatting with her in general about actors sporting tattoos...here is her response for your benefit -

"As long as I act, I keep my body fit for the role I am given. That includes body piercing/tattoos, etc. If a character needs a tattoo, there is always temporary ones available, or if she still wants one, then have it done in an area that she is never going to expose for the camera."

Gouri you are right. It looks like they (read channel) wanted some cheap publicity and GC obliged. The channel is not the first one to cash in on the actor's offscreen moments. Zee did it when they went ahead and showed GC in the zip trip pant even after being told what happened. GC seemed fine by it too since he did not demand the dance be reshot not did he stop when he realised what had happened. It is sad that publicity knows no ethics or limits in the current world.

I don't care if GC tattoos his whole body if he wants to but he needs to hide it when he plays some other character unless it goes with that character. There are some restrictions for actors. They cannot have the hairstyle they want without hiding their physical transformation through a wig. GC is forced to sport a stubble for the last one and a half year because Maan does. It is called continuity. As to showing the tattoo for the media, he could have done that by giving them an interview as himself. What irked viewers was that it was flaunted in a Maaneet cheek holding scene and distracted the viewers.

I agree with you, specially about continuity. I did say much the same things you've mentioned above in that 44+page thread.

But that fact it was shown cannot be laid on GC's shoulders.

Fact: As an actor, GC should have thought twice...he went and did it anyway.

My point is, the pH should have put down their foot and the channel too.

Why should GC be concerned about continuity? That's not his job...that's the director's and the Ph's area of expertise.

They should have made it clear that it was not on and would play havoc with the fans emotions.

But, did they care? No!

Why? They've lost interest in the show as the channel is clearly undergoing a revamp.

So, they looked the other way.

I don't blame GC at all...he must have been pretty angry at everyone for suggesting meaningless things...he's young...and so, in josh he did this...quite dangerous, really, when you think about needles piercing those tender veins at the wrist...imagine the loss of blood and the pain!

Frankly, I didn't know that wrist tattoos are even allowed!😲

While the creatives certainly need to be held responsible for this fiasco, the actor cannot and should not be absolved of all blame. Simply because there is an implicit agreement when an actor agrees to play a character that he will do everything possible to get into the skin of the character and maintain the same. This implies that the actor is responsible for maintaining the continuity of a character in terms of the physicality, For example, the actor cannot be blamed if there is no continuity in terms of costume, actions etc. This is however about his body and the onus lies on him. He does not even have the right to refuse if the creatives had called for concealing the tattoo.

However, this is a clear case of collusion. Why and for what purpose beats me but the fact remains that a professional space has been used for making personal statements with the consent of all concerned. The reason given by the PH of course was that "it is complicated"!!!!

I dont agree here. As an actor who claims to be living Maan for the past year, he should have taken into account what the character Maan can do and cannot do. If he chose to ignore or deliberately flaunt it then there definitely seems to be a reason. And as you said, the rest of the clan (PH and Channel) turning a blind eye to it clearly shows there is much more than meets the eye.

Getting angry at the media or the fans is quite immature because neither are going to behave themselves. He could have called up SBS and told them to stop talking rubbish much like DD did when she was said have some boyfriend. SBS had to apologise the next day. The matter ended. The fact that this route was not used suggested that people (including the channel) wanted more publicity. Maybe they thought that people will tune in every day to see if the tattoo was visible or not.

For what it is worth, I don't think it is a permanent tattoo which would involve needles in that area. as some one said he could not have worn a metal wrist watch in such a short time.
