the serpent dares to speak to the stone not from wisdom nor superiority...he knows the stone can crush him from just one blow...the stone can speak of noble thoughts and wise ideas...yet this time the serpents inferior view is what reveals the reason...yet it is not to be confused with him having the right to speak..what moves him is the knowledge that he has nothing to lose...for his own actions have left him dragging himself in the dust...and as they say "the sinner judges from his own condition"...what better judge of what is wrong...than the one who caused the stone to crumble...
