So. In this version, there is no blood problem, nor is there any Dev issue (well, he might pop up. I don't know, really.) 😆
I may have forgotten to add something, so. Oh yeah! In this chappie, Geet might seem a little unintelligent. Well, she's NOT. She's just shocked, is all.
Feedback is highly appreciated! 😃This part may seem boring (dang, the Doctor has a lot of dialogue) but if I manage to communicate the scenes in my head victoriously, then I assure you, you won't be disappointed! (er...I hope.) Please forgive any grammatical/spelling errors!
***Chapter One (continued from Prologue)***
"Ye aap...aap kya bol rahe hain?"
"Agar tumhe sunnai nahin de raha, tho ye meri problem nahin hai. Yahaan aur koi hai? Doctor ko bulao, jaldi." Then he muttered to himself, "Na jaane kyun ye aurat zaat mere peechhe haat dhoke padi hai."
Geet was rooted in her place. Maan glanced up at her, and was just about to yell at her again when his eyebrows scrunched up; one could almost see the gears turning in his head as he scrutinized her. "Ek minute...tum...tum...Geet?"
Geet smiled mischievously. She knew what he was up to now. "Oh. Tho aapko lagta hai ki aap aisi shararat karke bach payenge? Theek hai. Main bhi aapke saath khelthi hoon." She stuck her hand out in a handshake. "Haan, mein Geet hoon. Aur aap?" Her eyes shined in mock inquiry as her lips puckered adorably.
But her adorableness had no impact as Maan stared at the outstretched hand, then resumed glaring. "Tho tumne abhi bhi apni adaayen phekna band nahin kiya. Tum apne aap ko samajhti kya ho? Aakhri baar to tum dar kar wapas ghar chali gayi thi, apne Bhai se aur maar khane."
Geet gaped. He wasn't joking. Maan would never joke like that. "Aakhri baar...aapko woh yaad hai?"
Maan looked away and smirked. "Kya yaad nahin hai, yeh poocho. Theek hai, agar tumhari yaadaash kamzor hai, tho main hi samjha deta hoon." His smirk disappeared as he pursed his lips in disgust. "Main apni zameen lene aaya tha, jo ki tum de nahin rahi thi. Phir badi meherbani karke tumne un papers par sign kiye. Lekin phir bhi tumne mujhe baksh nahi diya. Tumhe apne aap ko khatre main dalne main bohot mazaa aata hai, hai na? Aur wo be mere saamne. "
Geet bit her lip as she began to slowly back away.
Maan continued with a raised eyebrow. "Tho tumhare pagal gharwalon ne tumhe jaan se maarne ki koshish ki, aur maine tumhari jaan bachayi. Lekin tum bechaari, kamzor aurat ko apne liye larne ki kya zaroorat hai?" His biting words stung; it amazed Geet that his tongue was still capable of speaking so harshly. "Aasaan rasta hai na tum auraton ke liye. Wapas ghar jhao, aur agar ho sake tho kisi rayees aadmi ko patakar uske saath shaadi--" he halted.
Geet wasn't responding the way he expected. She had stopped wringing her dupatta, her face engulfed in a look of deep confusion.
His eyes widened in rage. "Tum," he growled. "Tumhe pata hai ki main kaun hoon. Bohot achhi tarah se pata hai. Aur tum ye jaanthi ho ki Maan Singh Khurana ki kya izzat hai. Agar tumhe lagta hai ki apni ye nakli adaaein phek kar tum mujhe pata logi...tho apni ye galat faimi hata do apne chhote dimag se." His words seared the space between them like a scorching fire.
He saw her lips twitch, but she didn't respond. Her eyes displayed a variety of emotions, but not fear. Not anger. Not even defiance. There was a hint of sadness...and something deeper that Maan could not place, but it was making him uncomfortable.
Meanwhile, Geet was suffering from emotion overload. Memories of Hoshiarpur flooded her mind. She couldn't help but look at Maan in longing, but she couldn't go to him either. There was something clearly wrong, and the accident had taken a toll on the poor guy. She involuntarily gasped as she considered the notion that this...condition of his would remain permanent.
Her gasp drew Maan's attention, but before he could make another remark, she slowly backed out of the room, her hand raised to her face in wonder. He leaned forward, his gaze following her path out of the room. "Pagal ho gayi hai?" he thought to himself, then crossed his arms in an arrogant pose.
Geet stepped out in a daze, her eyes wide, as the doctor came up to her. "Mrs. Khurana! Kya hua? Aap ithni ghabrayi hui kyun lag rahi hain? Waise, aapko achanak se andar nahin jaana chahiye tha, lekin humne socha ki aapko thoda waqt de hi dete hain. Mr. Khurana abhi bhi so rahe honge, I hope? Unhe aaram ki sakt zarurat hai."
"Nahin, Doctor, woh ut gaye hain," she mumbled quietly. "Aur...aur wo bohot ajeeb si baatein kar rahe hain." She gulped, trying to speak louder. "Shayad unhe...kuch yaad nahin."
The doctor smiled. "Mrs. Khurana, hame lagta hai ki Mr. Khurana is suffering a bout of amnesia. Accidents ke wajah se ye kafi hota hai. Aur unke sar ko bhi kaafi chot aayi thi. Aapko darne ki koi zaroorat nahin, ye bilkul normal hai, aur unki yaadaash dheere dheere wapas aa jayegi."
Geet breathed a deep sigh of relief. "Thank you, Doctor. Mera tho dil hi ruk gaya tha. Na jaane kaisi, teen-chaar mehene pehle wali baatein kar rahe the."
"Kya? Aisi baat hai?!"
Geet's breath caught again. "Kyun?"
The doctor looked perturbed. "Well, usually accident-related amnesia main sirf do-teen din ki yaadash ki baat hoti hai. Lekin Mr. Khurana ke sar ko kaafi geheri chot aayi hai, tho aisa hona namumkin nahin hai, par inki yaadash ko wapas laane main zyada waqt lagega." He gave a reassuring smile to the now hyperventilating Geet. "Ghabraiye mat. Unki physical condition ithni crucial nahin hain. Parson tho ham Mr. Khurana ko discharge bhi kar sagenke. Aapko bas unka khayal rakhna hoga, aur dhyan main rakhiyega ki aap unhe saari yaadein ek jhatke main na bata de. Aise karne se unko bahut sadma pahunch sakta hai. In fact, main to ye kahunga ki aap jitna kam ho sake, utna bataayein tho beheter hai, aur aisi choti moti cheezein kijiye jiski wajah se unhe khudbhakhud yaad aa jaye."
Geet blinked repeatedly as she processed the doctor's words. He patted her sympathetically. "Don't worry, sab theek ho jayega." And with that, he left the poor girl to her storming thoughts.
Her lips quivered at first, and she blinked hard to barricade the salty water threatening to breach her eyes. "Mujhe Dadima ko bataana hoga," she mumbled, then scurried off towards the visitors waiting area.
As soon as she saw the look on Geet's face, Dadima shot up. "Geet beta...kya hua?!"
******
Maan seethed. How the hell had he gotten there? Last he remembered...last he remembered...huh. The words "It was all a blur," never meant anything to him until now.The human brain works in strange ways, though, and at this time, Maan's brain was formulating a scenario that would have been most apt for the last thing he did. Main office gaya...Sasha ne presentation di...deal final ho gaya...aur main ghar wapas aa gaya. Tho ye sab kaise...? He pressed his fingers to his temple, trying to ease the pain caused by the effort of thinking so much. Ghar laut te hue mera accident ho gaya. Simple.
He picked up the now empty glass of water on his bedside table.
Several moments passed in silence.
A loud shattering sound resounded through his room as he flung the glass away. His face was contorted with rage as he roared, "THEN WHY THE HELL IS SHE HERE?"
Dadima sank to her seat, her expression matching Geet's.
"Dadima...ab kya?" Geet inquired of her elder, a strange feeling coursing through her veins. For some reason, she hadn't expected Dadima to be this quiet.
"Dadima...?!" she exclaimed as she saw Dadi's shoulders shaking, not with sobs, but with laughter.
As Geet looked on in horror, Dadi gasped, "Geet beta...aap jaanthi bhi hai iska matlab kya hai?"
The innocent eyes that looked back at Dadima may well have belonged to a child. "...Kya?"
"Bete...aap hamari nazariya se soch ke dekhiye! Aap tho jaanthi hi hain, aapse pehle Maan kitne rukhe the. Ab soch ke dekhiye...aap unki patni hain. Aur ye baath unhe maloom nahin. Kyun na is baat ka faida uthaya jaye?"
Geet blinked. "Dadi, aap mazaak accha kar leti hain."
Dadi nudged her bahu. "Geet beta, ham koi mazak nahin kar rahein. Dekhiye, Doctor ne tho kaha hai ki unhe kuch batana nahin chahiye. Ye unki sehat ke liye faideman hoga! Maan ki fikar nahin kijiye, woh theek ho jayenge."
A small grin spread across Geet's face, immediately replaced by a frown. "Par Dadi...ham unhe batayenge kya? Unhe tho sirf Hoshiarpur wali Geet yaad hai!"
Then, at that moment, Dadi gave an evil grin that did not become a lady of her age. "Woh ham par chor dijiye."
