Maan and Geet....... Man and woman... Yin and yang, sooooo similar yet soooooo different!! They are opposites; they are two halves of a whole. One begins where the other ends and yet together they are one!!!
Let's look into yin and yang aspect to see how this works with Maaneet.
Yin is feminine, slow, soft, yielding ' like water, the moon, the night.
Yang, by contrast is masculine is fast, hard, solid- like fire, the sun, the sky
Like in Yin and Yang that arises from an initial emptiness together and continue to move in tandem till they reach the place where they started at square one. Like a seed (yin) turns to full grain(yang) and that in turn gives seed the same way Geet and Maan are going to be. Just like the Kurbaan hua song has a line Tum jahan khatam mein shuru hua' her Yin will be his Yang'
Geet is water to Maan's fire and vice versa. She is the moon for his night and he is the sun for her sky!! E.g of Sun's movement from Sunrise to sunset - As the sun moves across the sky, yin and yang gradually trade places with each other, revealing what was obscured and obscuring what was revealed.
There are many instances where Geet was Yin to Maan's Yang and Maan being Yin to Geet's yang' When both are yang is when the friction arises!
E.g.- When Geet tears the land papers and throws it at Maan's face, he does not react to her at all. He tells her family that she will cause problems and walks out.
On the way to Amritsar, Geet by her yin actions (tied kerchief around his wound), cooled the fire of Maan's yang
Geet buying flowers (Yin- soft side)' Maan disregarding it(Yang- the hard side).
After Geet moves to Delhi, we see the Maslow's theory in place!! Before I continue, though the basic needs don't change ' social needs and Esteem can interchange depending on situation.
After she meets Maan in the Canadian embassy, she realizes that her primary need is to sustain life ' Roti, kapda aur makaan. For this instead of seeking justice, she should work for a living! Higher needs like love, self-esteem, etc are not felt until basic needs are meted out'E.g- Working in Maan's office, moving to outhouse (She needs a house to stay) and food (the time she reminds him she is hungry).
Now comes Social needs- Here, we see Geet being friends with Adi and Pinky. She is truly alone and feels the need of a sense of belonging and importance. For that, she needs Maan to provide her the sense of belonging by accepting her. Unconsciously trying to win Maan's approval because she so wants to belong in this office.
Hereon, we also see groW*H in relationship (Maaneet), the understanding, the acceptance, compromise
she emulates him(E.g. yesterday- the way she says Meera's name, when she says Chup bilkul chup) .. he is her idol and'.. ideal
She will become like him eventually ' that is what her character groW*H will be' She is the softer side of him. This ego clash may remind him of how he behaved when he was 18
Maslow's Theory of Hierarchy of Needs
Maan is at the Self actualization part of the ladder. He is a mature man who has gone through the stages probably early in life and in his relationship with Sameera or any other love interest.
He relearns some of the needs with Geet in the love and belonging step for he has closed his mind against it. however being at the higher plane he becomes mentor and philosopher for Geet. He is her ideal. He accepts facts, solves problems but sometimes falls down the hierarchy like how he did in Peen Loon Sequence where he had to relearn to understand Geet and her love after Dev prodded him to think.
Geet is actually the person who is going through the theory from step one. It is her journey actually where she develops from being a person fulfilling basic needs to being strong and self reliant enough to be able to solve other's problems
Geet's story is her going up the ladder. Right now she is in the process of learning Love and Belonging and Self Esteem where she will be able to love Maan with deeper meaning and understanding along with her confidence and sense of achievement is instilled. She needs to respect Maan's love right now she has had it easy with him cushioning all her falls, literally and figuratively. She will be finding her wings and know that the wind beneath her wings is Maan.
Once she finds this strength she will then be solving Maan's past and help him develop his personality in terms of letting go. She is going to give him back what she has gotten from him. She is going to give him his family, his siblings, his respect back'.
That will be her self actualization'.
P.S. This post was written so we get some understanding on the characters of Geet and Maan. It gets tedious to see Maan/Geet bashing based on episode drama. Please remember' picture abhi bhaki hai mere dost!!
Note:This is a corroborative effort of Revv and myself... hope you all like it...
