Geet sat in class trying very hard to concentrate. Geet may have been sitting in class, but her heart and soul searched for Maan everywhere she looked. She wanted to go to Mumbai and find him, but then she didn't have any idea where he could be. She called his phone so many times, after every class and every hour at home. No one at Khurana Construction knew where he was either. He had left instruction on what to do in his absence at the company. Geet spent the past two nights crying. There wasn't a single soul that she could share her grief with. She felt so lonely and suffocated without Maan.
Vicky didn't show up to class after the incident at the mall. Geet gave up hope of him coming home. She thought after she left his house, he would surly come back. But everything that she said to him didn't make any difference. These Khurana brothers were driving her insane. One brother tore her life to pieces, the other one puts it all back together, then the third one comes along to tear it apart all over again. Geet was so helpless that she didn't know what else to do anymore.
One morning she was sitting in the living room with Dadima.
"Bahu rani, when is Maan coming back? It's been three days already. He hasn't given me a single call.", Dadima expressed.
"I'm not sure Dadima. He's very busy. I didn't get a chance to talk to him either.", Geet replied.
"Is everything alright? He should at least call.", Dadima said.
"I think so. But I plan on going to Mumbai this weekend to see how he is.", Geet told her.
As she said this, someone stepped into Khurana Mansion. Both Dadima and Geet got off their seats and was fixed to the ground, staring at the person in surprise. Dadima hurried to the door.
"Vicky! Is that really you?", She said walking towards him.
"Yes Dadima!", Vicky said giving his grandmother a hug.
Tears poured down Savitri Devi's face. She couldn't believe that she was seeing Vicky in front of her eyes.
She put her hands on his cheeks and asked, "Beta are you back for real?"
"Yes…Dadima. I'm back for real.", his eyes welled with emotion.
"Your not going to leave me are you?", Dadima asked.
"No, I promise I won't ever leave you again.", Vicky said.
Savitri Devi pulled Vicky inside and sat him down on the sofa. "Why didn't you come home all these days? Do you know how long I've waited for you to come home? You didn't even think about your grandmother."
"I know…I'm so sorry.", Vicky said.
"You look like you've lost weight. Have you not been taking care of yourself? Let me tell Nakul to get you something to eat.", Savitri Devi said inspecting her grandson to make sure that he was still fit.
"Dadima, I'm fine. The first thing I need to do is apologize to bhai and Geet.", Vicky said getting up.
Geet stood there watching the interaction between grandmother and grandson with a smile on her face. Vicky walked up to her.
"Geet, I'm so sorry for the way I acted with you. You were right about everything. I should have never left."
"Its okay Vicky. I knew you would come back.", Geet said giving him a soft smile.
"Am I missing something here?", Dadima asked.
Vicky turned to Dadima and explained everything that happened with Geet.
"Dadima, if it wasn't for her I wouldn't have come back.", Vicky informed her.
Savitri Devi began crying with more force. She hugged Geet tightly and said, "I'm so lucky to have you as my bahu. Thank you so much for what you did."
"Dadima you don't need to thank me. This my family too, I did it for my own family.", Geet replied.
Savitri Devi kissed Geet on the forehead and Geet whipped away her tears.
Vicky interrupted their moment. "So I guess I should call you bhabi from now on, you know since your married to my brother and all.", he said with a grin.
Geet smiled weakly. Vicky could sense something wrong. The usual spark he always saw in Geet was missing.
"Ummm, where's bhai? I think I need to talk to him most importantly."
"Maan went to Mumbai for a business meeting.", Geet answered.
Vicky felt something off in the way she said this. "When will he be back?", he asked.
"Ummm…I'm not sure. There's a lot of work he has to do there.", Geet told him with out looking him in the eye.
Now Vicky was sure that something was wrong. He had to find out.
Dadima fretted over making sure Vicky ate. She asked what he did all these months and how he got by. While they talked Geet just listened in silence. After Dadima had finally let Vicky out of her sight, he went to Geet's room to talk to her. He knocked on the door.
"Come in.", Geet said.
He walked into find her sitting on the bed with her knee folded up to her chest. She hugged her knees as if trying to console herself.
"Geet, I mean bhabi, where is bhai for real?", Vicky asked.
"Umm…what do you mean? I told you he's in Mumbai.", Geet said nervously.
Vicky sat at the foot of the bed, "I know there's something your not telling me."
"Vicky, I'm not hiding anything from you."
"Yes you are. I can tell. Just tell me what happened.", Vicky insisted.
"No…really…everything is fine.", Geet lied.
"Is that why your sitting here curled up in a ball all by yourself. Is that why you look like your going to burst out crying any minute now.", Vicky said getting annoyed.
Geet didn't say anything. "Something happened between you and bhai, didn't it?", Vicky inquired.
Moisture filled Geet's eyes and she nodded.
"What happened?", Vicky said.
"He left for Mumbai, because I didn't tell him about you. He's mad at me.", Geet said in between sobs.
"Didn't you try and talk to him?", Vicky said hating himself for putting her in this situation.
"I did, but he just left after he saw you in the mall. He didn't even tell me where he was going. He won't even receive my calls. I've been trying to contact him for the past three days but he doesn't even care."
Vicky thought what he could do to fix this. His brother always had to be such a drama queen. Instead of doing what a normal person would do, he runs away in anger and lets it all bottle up. Maan Singh Khurana and his attitude would never change.
"I'm going to Mumbai tomorrow to find him.", Geet said.
"You don't have to go to Mumbai.", Vicky told her.
"Why not?"
"Because he's not in Mumbai.", Vicky informed her.
"What are you talking about?", Geet said.
"He's at our farm house. That's where he usually goes when he has to vent his anger."
"How can do you know?", Geet asked.
"Trust me, I know my brother pretty well….now stop crying. I'm going to bring your khadoos husband back.", Vicky said standing up.
"What?...."
"The farm house is two hours from here…I'll drive there right now and get him."
"Let me come with you.", Geet said.
"No, you stay. I need to talk to him and you got into this mess because of me. So I'll fix it.", Vicky told her.
"But…"
"Just relax, I'll bring him home.", Vicky turned to leave.
Vicky arrived at the farm house after a long drive. He looked at the huge house and saw the lights on in the first floor. He knew his brother would be here. He rang the door bell. After a few minutes of waiting, someone opened the door.
Maan stood there a moment too long, looking at the person who was standing in front of him.
"Can I come in?", Vicky asked.
"huh…yes.", Maan said moving from the door way. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to take you back home.", Vicky answered.
"What?..."
"What is this bhai? Why are you punishing Geet like this?"
"Its none of your business.", Maan said clenching his jaw.
"Your wife is sitting at home, crying because you left just so you can satisfy your ego."
"Vicky! You don't know what your talking about.", Maan roared.
"Yes I do. Geet didn't do anything wrong and here you are punishing her. Do you have nay idea how much that women loves you?", Vicky said.
Maan stood there silently, Vicky continued, "You know what she told me when she was pleading for me to come home? She told me that she was would never be able to repay you for all you did for her and bringing me back home was her only chance to give you something in return."
Maan closed his eyes in regret, "She should have just told me the truth."
"Okay lets say she did tell you that she met me, you would have come up to me and tried to get me to come back home. You know what I would have done if you did that? I would have tried to get away from you. But her way was successful, she got me to come back home.", Vicky explained.
"You went home?", Maan asked.
"Yeah…this morning. Then I found out that you weren't there. Geet wouldn't tell me why you left, but I got it out of her. She's really stressed out. You need to go home."
"But…"
"No buts, your taking her for granted. Come home and make up with her.", Vicky said. "Bhai I'm really sorry for everything.", Vicky took Maan by surprise by giving him a hug, which he returned.
Geet waited impatiently for Maan and Vicky to come home. That's if Maan agreed to come. Her insides felt uneasy from the nervousness. Maan was so stubborn, what if he didn't come back? She sat in the living room and kept looking at the door every few minutes. Vicky was gone for five hours already, it was already 9 PM. How much longer was it going to take him. Finally she became so restless that she went to her room and sat in the balcony. She thought maybe the cool breeze outside would make her feel better. Twenty minutes passed and then she heard noise down stairs.
Hoping that it was Maan, she ran to the stairs. She stopped at the top of the stairs when she saw the man that occupied her every thought. The sight of him made her heart skip a beat.
Dadima already went up to Maan and began questioning him about his behavior and why he hadn't bothered to contact them. She was surprised to see Vicky with him.
Geet walked towards Maan, but he wasn't looking at her. He was busy answering Dadima's relentless questions. She dragged both brothers to eat at the dinner table. Geet joined them silently, though all she wanted to do was talk to Maan and be in his embrace. Vicky glanced at Geet and gave her a grin. Geet didn't understand why he was smiling when Maan was still mad at her. She barely touched her food and excused herself from the table. Geet went to her room. Why wasn't Maan saying anything to her? The fact that he was near her and still so far, pained her more than when he was actually away from her.
Geet went to talk to Dadima after changing into her night gown. Maan walked up the stairs and went to his room. He did not say a single word to Geet since his arrival. She saw him walking to their room. "Hai babaji, Maan ab tak naraz hai mujh pe. Please babaji, saab theek kardi jiye na. Mujhe inse doori nahin saha jati.", Geet prayed.
Geet felt a bit scared to face Maan. What if he yelled at her? She didn't think she would be able to take it. Still she went upstairs. Maan was changing his clothes. He took off his shirt and only wore a pair of cotton pants. When Geet came in she stood in the doorway and twisted her anchal in her hands. Maan gave her a glare and walked up to her. He extended a hand, Geet looked at him in surprise. He leaned over her and closed the door shut, locking it. Geet took in his manly sent, oh how much she had missed it.
Then he took a step back and crossed his arms in front of his chest and stared down at her. Geet looked at him nervously, he probably wanted an explanation for not telling him about Vicky.
"uhhhh…Maan, I'm sorry I didn't tell you about Vicky. I wanted to bring him home, but I thought it would be better to be friends with him first. I thought it would be easier for him to come home that way. I didn't mean to hurt you. Maan believe me…I did it for you….", she continued blabbering.
Then Maan put a finger on her lips and said, "Chup…bilkul chup."
The way he said it made shivers run down Geet's spine. The softening in his deep voice made her knee's buckle.
"Kitne bolti ho tum. Mujhe bhi to kuch bolne do.", he said in a sultry tone.
"Aapko…", she cleared her throat. "Aapko kuch kehna hai?"
"Haan."
"Kya?"
"Yeh…", he said closing the distance between their lips.
As Maan's lips met hers, Geet thought there was an eclectic current running through her body. She had yearned for these lips for so many days now, that she felt like she would never get enough. She wrapped her arms around him. Maan pulled her against his body and fastened his own arms on her waist. Geet tangled her fingers in his hair. Maan slipped the strap of her night gown off her shoulder and kissed her there, leaving her wanting for more. Geet showered him with kisses on his naked chest. Maan could feel his physical thirst for her body mounting. He picked her up and put her down next to the bed. Geet enfolded her arms around him once again and kissed him with passion.
Maan unzipped her night gown and let it fall to the floor. Geet pushed him on the bed and sat on his stomach, with her legs resting on either side. Maan could feel the heat between her legs. As he lay on the bed, he looked up at her voluptuous breast. He could see the shyness in her eyes as his eyes lingered over her chest. He pulled her down on the bed and his tongue traced the tips of her breast. His hands explored her already familiar body. She lead a slow path of kisses on his chest and stomach. She felt her erotic desires brew to the surface. Her hand found its way to his forbidden place and it took that one instant to force his libido to its peak. She moaned with exhilaration until he withdrew. He lay next to her breathless.
They faced each other, with their legs tangled together. Maan touched her soft cheek.
"Geet, I love you.", he whispered.
"Then why did you leave me like that?", Geet asked softly.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that.", Maan told her.
"Yeah shouldn't have. You know what you put me through for four days? Everyday I wanted to see you but I couldn't. You have no idea how being away form you affects me. I was suffocating without you. Maan, you can't just leave whenever you want."
"I know. I wasn't thinking. I felt hurt that you didn't tell me about Vicky. I couldn't control my temper. And being away from you isn't easy for me either."
"Then don't ever leave me again.", Geet said.
"I promise, I won't.", Maan assured her.
"From now on we need to talk to each other about how we feel instead of being angry or trying to avoid each other. Okay?"
"Okay." Maan agreed. He gave her a kiss on the forehead.
"Oh and by the way, I love you too.", Geet told him.
Then, they both fell asleep in peace after enduring many painful and lonely nights.
