When Geet got home that day, she was on her toes to talk to Maan. He didn't come home from work yet. He was definitely mad at her for what she said at the university. She called him many times, he didn't pick up even once. She cursed herself for yelling at him. It was so sweet of him to visit her at the university. Maan wasn't the type to do these kinds of things, yet he did it for her. She wanted to see him and apologize. She was becoming more and more impatient as the clock ticked before his arrival.
Maan was sitting in the car, on his way home. He was fuming over Geet's reaction over him going to her school. He didn't understand what the problem was. Geet confused him so much sometimes. He expected her to be happy when she saw him, but instead she gets mad at him. How was he supposed to know that she would go all ballistic on him?
He finally arrived home, he went to his room and saw Geet sitting on the couch. She was twisting her anchal in her hand, which she did when she was nervous. Maan walked in a took of his tie and threw it in one corner of the room. Geet jumped up from her seat. He then took his waist coat of and threw it somewhere else. Geet began to approach him. He took his shirt off and threw it on the bed. Geet stood in front of him. He ignored her and went to the armoire to take his clothes out.
Geet didn't know how to start. So she stood behind him and wrapped her arms around his bare torso.
"I'm sorry.", she whispered.
Maan loosened himself from her grasp and went to the bathroom. Geet stared after him in exasperation. Of course this wasn't going to be easy. This was Maan Singh Khurana, everything about him was difficult. His temper wasn't going to go down with a simple sorry. Geet stood there tapping her feet waiting for Maan to come out of the bathroom. When he came out he rolled his eyes at her and went on doing his own thing. She followed behind him.
"Maan, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you.", Geet said. He still ignored her. She stepped in front of him to block his path. "It was sweet of you to visit me. I didn't mean what I said.", Geet said with an innocent expression.
Maan flared his nostril and grabbed her by the shoulder and pulled her close. His grip was hurting her, "You never mean what you say Geet. I don't know what you want from me. Just leave me alone.". He pushed her away and left the room.
Geet stood there with moisture in her eyes. She rubbed her shoulder, it was aching from his tight grip. "Hai babaji, ab main kya karoon?", she thought. Geet still tried to talk to Maan, but he was always where Dadima was, so she couldn't say anything.
When they went to bed, she hugged him, but he removed her arm. Geet was persistent, and put her arm around him every time he took it off. Then she got tired of it and fell asleep. Maan turned around to face her and watched her sleeping. An errant strand of hair lingered on her face, he gently swiped it to the side. Her innocent face put an small smile on his lips. He then put his own arm around her waist and pulled her close to him. Then he was able to fall asleep.
The next morning when Geet woke up, Maan already left to work. Her day began with a frown on her face. It was then, that she decided she would tell Maan about Vicky and explain the reason behind her irrational behavior yesterday when he got home from work. She sulked the entire morning. She got to the university and found Vicky excited about their shopping trip. Geet had completely forgotten that she agreed to help him find a necklace for Anjali.
During their free time, Vicky and Geet made their way to the mall. They went to so many stores, but none of them had what Vicky wanted.
"Stop being so picky.", Geet told him annoyed after they left the yet another jewelry store.
"Geet, you don't understand. I have to get something perfect for my Anjali.", Vicky said in total lover boy mode.
Geet shook her head, "ughh…your worse then a girl."
"Shut up! Okay just to give you a break, lets have lunch and then we'll look again.", Vicky said.
They went to a restaurant for lunch. A few minutes later, when the waiter took them to a table. Someone was watching them intently.
Maan was finishing a meeting with a client, when he saw two familiar people come in the restaurant. Their backs were towards him. There was a women and a man. Even though the women wasn't facing him, he could recognize her from miles away, as she was the sole person his world revolved around. But he didn't know who the man was. He felt like he knew who the guy was too. They both sat at a table in a corner. "Who is Geet here with?", he thought to himself. As soon as the clients left, he went to her table.
When Geet sat down, her body froze in horror. She wished she could just disappear as Maan walked towards her. Vicky still didn't see Maan, he was sitting with his back to him.
"Geet, what are you doing here?", Maan asked.
He looked down at the man Geet was sitting with, and his eyes amplified in shock. Vicky instantly got off his seat as if someone just electrocuted him. Geet's heart was pounding in fear as both the brothers stared at each other in alarm. No words came out of Maan's mouth.
Vicky finally said, "Bhai!"
Maan came out of this reverie, "Vicky…what…how…". He turned to Geet and said, "Geet, how did you find Vicky?"
Geet didn't know what to say. Vicky talked for her, "How do you know Geet?"
"She's my wife.", Maan answered.
"What?! No. She's my friend. We go to the same university.", Vicky said as he turned to look at Geet for a conformation.
Geet looked down at the floor, "ummm…Maan is my husband.", she whispered.
The fury in Vicky's eyes told her this wasn't going to turn out nice. "What the hell are you saying? You lied to me all this time about who you really were?!"
"No…I only wanted to bring you back home Vicky.", Geet said.
Vicky looked at Maan, "So, since you couldn't get me back home, you sent your stupid wife to do it instead?"
Maan grabbed on to Vicky by the collar. "Don't you dare insult Geet.", he said ferociously.
At this point everyone in the restaurant was looking at them. Geet's eyes began to shed tears form panic. Maan and Vicky seemed like they could kill each other right now.
"No….please guys. Stop it!!", Geet shrieked.
The hotel manager came up to them, "What is going on here?", the manager asked.
"Maan please let go.", Geet said as she tried to push him back. Maan let go of Vicky's collar.
"If you thought that this plan of yours was going to get me to come home, you were wrong. I'm never coming home.", Vicky said as he hit his chair, which fell to the floor. "Stay the hell away from me.", he finally said. Then he left.
"Vicky…Vicky!", Geet called after him.
Maan stood there raging. He looked at Geet, she took a step towards him. He took two steps back and said, "Don't say an single word."
"But Maan…let me…",
"No. I want you out of my sight.", he said whispering lethally.
These word pierced Geet so much that she felt numb. She gazed at him in dismay. He walked away and left her there completely shattered.
After Maan left, Geet faced the inevitable dilemma, how was she to fix this? Then she deliberated that she would get Vicky home no matter what. Her heart wanted to scream in agony and run after Maan. If there was anything that pained her it was the distance between them.
She would talk to Maan after she dealt with Vicky, because there was a high chance of Vicky running away again. Geet followed Vicky all the way home. He shut the door on her face. But Geet was relentless and knocked on the door for as long as she needed. She stood there for fifteen minutes until Vicky opened the door.
"Leave!!", Vicky yelled.
Geet pushed her way inside, "I'm not going to leave until you hear me out!"
"I don't want to hear what you have to say!"
"I don't care! Just stop this nonsense."
"Listen, whatever you say won't get me back home!", Vicky yelled.
"Vicky, how long are you going to be mad at your brother for something that's not his fault?", Geet asked in frustration.
"Not his fault? Of course its his fault. My girlfriend left me because of him. He also kicked Dev out because of his damn ego!"
"You have no idea what your talking about! Your girlfriend left you because she was wrong. Maan tried to protect you. He was only doing his job as an older brother."
"NO! He wasn't trying to do his job as an older brother, he was doing what he liked best, which is to control everything around him.", Vicky said in fury.
"I can't believe this. Maybe it's a good thing that you left. You don't deserve Maan as a brother!! How can you fail to understand him? Maan has always protected you guys and tried to give you guys a better life. He saved you from tying yourself to a relationship that would have been lie. Yet you blame him for it!", there was pain in Geet eyes.
"Oh just stop! He's your husband so of course you'll take his side!", Vicky said flaring his nostrils.
"I'm not doing this because he is my husband. I'm only doing this for the man that has saved me over and over again…emotionally, physically and mentally. My world exist because of him. I can't repay him for what he did for me, this is my chance to give him the happiness he deserves.", tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Oh really? And what exactly did he save you from?", Vicky asked viciously.
"Your brother Dev!", Geet said.
"What?!", Vicky said in shock.
Geet explained to him about what Dev had done and how she had come to meet Maan. Vicky stood there looking at her wide eyed. He couldn't believe what his ears were hearing.
"How can Dev do that?", Vicky said talking to himself.
"Do you still believe that Maan was wrong in kicking him out of the house? He needed to learn a lesson for his mistakes and Maan only did what he thought was best.", Geet said.
Vicky did not say anything, Geet continued, "Vicky, Maan doesn't deserve this from you. All he has ever done is try to protect and keep the people he loves happy. But everyone has always abandoned him.", Geet's eyes filled with sorrow and tears. It was as if she could feel the loneliness and suffering Maan went through. At that moment, she realized how much his happiness meant to her. The grief in her only increased with this realization. Her heart was shredding to pieces as she said all this to Vicky. Still she went on, "You don't know how much Maan blames himself for letting your family fall apart. But he doesn't see that it's not his fault. You know what though, you're the one at fault here Vicky…you never understood your brother or his pain…"
"Geet…", Vicky began, but Geet interrupted.
"You should also think about your poor grandmother, who hopes everyday that her grandson would come back. But she doesn't know that her grandson only thinks of himself so why would he come home? I'm not going to say anything else to you Vicky. Just know that your family will always welcome you with open arms. Its up to you whether you come back home or not, because I honestly think Maan would be better off without you guys if this is how you treat him.", Geet said and turned to leave.
Vicky watched Geet leave, as he fought his own internal battle. Everything she had just said to him, affected him to such an extent that he could only hear her words over and over again in his head.
Geet arrived home. Her eyes were blood shot form crying. She quickly went to her room to look for Maan but he wasn't there. She was terrified to loose him. All she wanted to do was see him again. Geet decided to call the office and found out Maan he didn't return to the office. The dread inside her began to rise. She searched the out house, he was no where to be found.
She came back to the mansion and asked Nakul, "Nakul, did you see Maan?"
The butler answered, "Saab came home about a while ago and packed a suitcase, he said he had to go to a business trip to Mumbai."
"What? Did he say when he's coming back?", Geet asked in trepidation.
"No.", Nakul replied.
Geet knew that Maan wasn't on a business trip. This was him trying to stay far from Geet. She didn't know what to do. She went to their room and cried herself to sleep.
