one episode takes about 16-20 hours to shoot.. yes ... a 20seconds scene on screen takes about half and hour to forty minutes to shoot .. and then they have to shoot for an entire day ... to get an output of around 20 plus minutes .. these scenes are edited online, and hence they need to be sent as and when they are shot .. plus there is sound mixing as well as the approval of the channel..
now your next question to me would be .. why cant they do this before hand ...
when a show starts early ... as in when they wanna launch a show say in oct, they will start shooting sometime in say early september( presuming, they have worked on the pre-production stuff for months before that like signing actors, getting the set ready, finalising the script just to name a few) and have a bank of more than 20 episodes ... but then... after that if they want to continue with the story, they have issues like artists dates, future tracks, trps etc .. if they shoot a track before hand a keep, and start shooting for the next set and the trps of the previous set fall, then you cant do much to alter the story line for another month or so .. by which time others take over .. makers dont want to take a chance ... and at the end of the day at actors and the makers are humans roo .. they need to rest .. and the lack of rest has resulted in drastic outcomes and the same is for all of us to see... we wudnt want that would we?
also, as they start off with the shoot, they lose the bank, even then, they try their best to make a bank of episodes .. as far as they can ... like for example, they could shoot on a saturday and a sunday without a break .. then they get two extra episodes for that week .. which happened in this case as well.. the new promo aired on monday as already shot, which is why they could use bits of it last night, had they been shooting with Gurmeet only on tuesday then they wouldnt have had him at all in the episode ..
we should never discredit or underestimate the efforts of a creative team or ever presume they could have done better than this! i have sed this before ... we only lose out on a dose of entertainment .. they lose out on money!! why would they wanna run to their own downfall.. ???
it is not easy to be making a show .. there is too much effort that goes into it ...
a storywriter passes the script onto a screenplay writer and he to a dialogue writer and then whole thing is supervised by the creative head, who then sits with a director to get the scenes shot the way they had been written, the director here holds the discretion to shoot a scene as per the script or he might make changes as per the situation as well as the adaptablity of the actor.. if an actor fails to deliver in a scene, the entire scene has to be scrapped-now this time of an effort goes down the drain! so does the money that went into it ...
all of this then goes to the editor who has to decide between a good and an apt combination of close up scenes as well as long shots in order to make the scenes look effective ... then comes the sound mixing part ... where they have to decide which scene would have which song .. your which mahi vey were to suit which scene ..
now if all of this were to happen in a days time and the channel comes back and says, that particular scene in that particular day didnt register trps, hence scrap all such scenes in the coming episodes, what choice are you left with? you have to shoot those scenes all over ...
come contingency situation the way it did this time ..the makers also could have panicked like you and me, but what did they do instead, they smartly and quickly twisted the story, and made sure Gurmeet was present even last night, but titled the focus onto Geet and Dev.. media hype and other elements came into the storyline ..
guys, my only humble request to you all is ... please please please dont be mad at the creatives ! not atleast at a time like this .. it is our responsibility being fans .. to empathize with them and support them in their hour of need.. we want moments they give us moments, we want intensity they give it.. we want our fav song they pay heed to that as well ...in this hour of need the least we could all do is, watch the show, for the efforts they are making, so that, the makers arent forced to think this show actually would fall like a pack of cards with out Maan/Gurmeet ...
we know why he aint available, we also know now, why they dont have a bank ... so lets not blame them and support them and wish Gurmeet fully recovers and returns ...
think of the long run and the story line .. i think they managed brilliantly content wise last night ... give them the time to wrap the content based issues that we wouldnt otherwise wanna see with maan and geet around ( well i am a sucker for Maaneet romance, hence i speak for all)...
i hope you guys ... empathise and extend your whole hearted support and cooperation at this crucial hour towards a team that has neve disappointed us ... itna toh hum kar hi sakte hai na apne Geet aur Maan sir ke liye??
have a nice day!
love,
niha
