Chapter Two

"Look at him" I said to myself tired from the forty minute walk to the hotel. I was lagging behind Maan so I knew he wouldn't hear me. "We've been walking for so long and not once has he said, Geet are you tired or hungry. But why would he? He never asks anything about me, all he does is yell at me or tell me that I'm never doing my job right. Haaye Babaji I haven't eaten anything since this afternoon, and I can't even tell sir this or else he'll somehow make it my fault too. Babaji please put some sense into Maan Sir." All I wanted to do at this moment was pick up the pebbles on the ground and throw them at him and yell Dusht Dhanav I'm hungry and tired, but if I wanted to see tomorrow I knew that would be a bad idea, instead I called out to him hoping that he would stop. "Sir...sir...MAAN SIR" I yelled trying to get his attention. "Kya hai?" he whipped around angrily. "Nothing I was just going to ask you to wait for me, but no no carry on, nothing will happen to a girl walking alone at night. Go go keep walking" I said knowing that either he would keep walking or feel bad and wait for me. "Geet don't make jokes like this you know I would never let anything happen to you....I mean who else other than me would put up with you and you're shenanigans? Now will you please hurry up we're almost there".

I could finally see the hotel in the distance and all I kept thinking to myself was that I couldn't wait to check into my own room and EAT, I could feel mice running inside my stomach. "OUCH" I said falling to the floor, thinking I should have paid more attention where I was walking that thinking about food. "What happened" Maan asked anxiously as he helped me up. "Nothing my stupid sandal broke, and these where my favourite ones too, they were so expensive" I said holding my sandal in one hand and the strap in the other. "Geet you're more concerned about you're broken shoe, are you ok?" Maan asked holding his hand out "Yah I think so" I said grabbing his hand and getting back up. "I'm ok let's just get to the hotel I'm tired of walking" as I started to walk I once again fell back on the ground. "Owwwwwwwwww" I cried in pain, "Great this is JUST great first my shoe breaks and now this stupid rock cuts my foot, this is not my day" I said as I threw the rock away from me."Haaye Babaji, let me just make it to the hotel in one piece" I said pleading out loud. "Chale?" I said looking at Maan's worried face. "Geet are you sure you're ok?" Maan asked still worried helping me up, and holding me by the shoulders. "I'm fine seriously see nothings broken, other than my shoe let's go" I said as I broke the strap off my other shoe to make it into flip flops and attempted to walk again, only to be stumbling in pain. "GEET STOP" Maan yelled "I'm not talking anymore chances" he said as he gently lifted me into his arms "You seriously are bad luck even to yourself" he said and started to walk.

"Sir please put me down" I exclaimed "I can walk there's nothing wrong with me, besides this is not you're big city if people see us like this they'll get the wrong idea" I said trying to plead him to put me down "Sir please put me down I can walk and it's only another minute or so please sir please. Sir please put me down" "Geet Chup, I can't stand to see you hurt yourself in front of me" He said and quickly looked away "But Sir I'm fine it's ok I can walk" I said this time softly not wanting him to ever let me go. "Geet it's ok, I'll carry you up till the door and put you down, that way I know you won't hurt yourself and no one will misjudge us. "Thank you Maa..I mean thank you sir" I said looking into his eyes not believing that I almost called him Maan. I quickly looked away trying to hid my feelings, I couldn't let him know how I really felt, my life was already complicated as it was, it wouldn't be fair to let him in my life and deal with the mess it already was. I started to look down trying to find my tears from him.

"Geet.." he said softly "Why are you crying? You know you can't hide anything from me. What's wrong?" he asked still in his soft tone. "Kuch nahin Sir, I just got an eyelash in my eyes" I said wiping away my tears "See I'm fine Sir" putting a fake smile on my face. "Geet can you please stop calling me Sir and just call me Maan? You're supposed to be my fiance and if people hear you calling me sir than they're going to doubt us, especially Dadi" Maan said as he put me down as we reached the hotel. "No one here knows that we're fake engaged so I can still call you sir here, when we get back to Delhi I'll think about it" I said knowing that I won that battle and was very proud of myself. "Fine do whatever you want it's not like you ever listen to me anyways" Maan said as he opened the door to the hotel.

"Good evening and welcome to our hotel, how can I help you" the chirpy hostess said behind the counter. "Um hi, I actually needed two rooms for the night, our car broke down so we need to spend the night here" Maan explained so no one would get the wrong idea. "Absolutely let me just see what we got here" she said as she looked furiously in her computer. "I'm sorry but we only have one room left, but it does have a king size bed, and a couch in it, if that works" she said as she looked at me "No!" I exclaimed "We can't share a room, is there any other hotels in the area we can go to" I asked "Sorry but there is a fair in town, so everything has been booked months ago" She said seeing how uncomfortable I was. "No its ok we'll take the room, it's fine" Maan said as he pulled out his credit card and looked at me. "But..." I said before Maan cut me off "Besides you're my fiance why feel shy around me "He said as he put his arm around my hip. "Oh you two are engaged?" the hostess asked Maan as he nodded his head. "You two make such a cute couple, here's your key you're room is just around the corner over there" she said handing Maan the room key and smiling at me.

I couldn't believe it! What just happened here? He made me his fianc here too! I couldn't believe it lying in Delhi was one thing but here too? "Geet shall we?" he said turning me around with his arm. "Sure" I said while giving him a fake smile in front of everybody there. "Geet" Maan said as he whispered gently in my ear, sending chills all through my body. I was glad that Maan was still holding me tightly or else I would have already melted by now. "So Miss. Handa I guess you'll have to call me Maan here now too since people think that you are my fiance" he said still gently whispering in my ear and giving me a grinning smile. That same half grin smile the signifies to him that this time I win.
