Remember the scene when Brij and his gang was trying to kill Geet?
You might have thought that this type of thing just doesn't happen in today's time......I thought that too...... I used to think that "honor killings" and such were old fashioned....they just didn't happen anymore, but today I was looking at a friend's facebook wall and she'd posted this article up: http://www.marieclaire.com/world-reports/news/latest/honor-killings-in-america
And it just hit me how much of a reality Geet's story truly is....It is so upsetting to see such an atrocity being committed in today's time and in a country such as America....

i'm so glad the CVs decided to take on this topic, b/c everyone thinks this used to happen in the olden days...but honor killings still exist even in this modern and technological advance age...which is truly SAD!

I can believe that it happens in certain villages in India......but to see it happen in a place like the U.S. is just downright disheartening....the level that people go to protect their honor Ouch.........and the worst part is to see the mom supporting the father and trying to get him out of jail 😡

I agree with you 1000% Geet's concept may be different, but it does relate to a real issue and it is DEFINATELY sad to see something as horrible as honor killings still in practice 😭

I think this is much broader than honor killing ... as someone pointed out, it's also disheartening, rather shockingly heart breaking, to see the mom take the dad's side (or dad take the mom's side) in such decisions. Even staying silent about such a bit deal is agreeing to it.

But when I saw broader than honor killing, I'm talking about child abuse. We see it in the east quite a bit, but what ppl don't realize it is that there's a whole array of child abuse in the west also. And parents participate, or are silent observers, and sometimes just turn a blind eye because they don't want to face the facts.

Any which way - abuse is abuse, killing is killing. I shudder to think this, but it's true - it's ALL ABOUT oppressing the weaker.

CHildren can be killed, silenced, abused, because they're weaker. Women are killed with their husbands back home, abused, daughters still buried alive at birth. We shrug it off saying it's in the east, old days, poor villages, but THAT'S WRONG. If it's there, it WILL BE HERE TOO.

And now, IT IS HERE. THe concept of women being inferior to men is spread world wide. Abuse is spread world wide, and CHILD ABUSE specially. If the child is a girl, even more so.

I have a friend whose family lives in India. The things she tells me happen in the name of religion, amazing. I won't discuss coz I don't dicuss religious issues as it's a sensitive topic, but let me jus say - it's obvious it has nothing to do with religion, and all about honor.

If the girl doesn't marry young, ther'es something wrong with her.

If she can't keep her hsuband happy, there's something wrong with her.

If she gets divorced, there's something wrong with her.

If there's something wrong with teh child's upbringing, there's something wrong with the mother.

It's amazing the things we do, and say, and watch, w/o lifting a finger against injustice. Honor killing is another extreme of such injustices, happening under the banner of family, honor and religion.

So - don't say it's a shame it's here - it's BEEN HERE. Just do something about it.

The world has too many atrocities that go unreported. For every 10000 cases that go unreported, one case gets reported. Child abuse, honor killings, sadism, etc., exist every where in some guise or the other. We hear of mothers killing their babies, and recently about how a mother had a physical relationship with her biological (own) child whom she had given up for adoption.

There are too many shitty and crappy things happening out there. It is only the sensational things that get reported.

And these things have been happening for centuries, decades. Today, it is the wide reaching access of media that is making it possible for people to read about them, otherwise, these things are common practices in some societies, be it India or Botswana or cultured America. Barbarian mentalities are everywhere.

Just curious - how is murder, torture, rape, different than killing for honor? It's still murder, and brutal. Just as child abuse, se**al abuse, heck even psychological abuse.

@Bridget - agree. One other thing - today's internet savvy media doesn't report everything either. The powers that be control what gets reported and what doesn't, and even that, an edited version.

THAT, to me, is one of the worst kind of cruelty. To know something is wrong, and to not only watch silently and thus allow it, but to hide it so it continues ...
