Part 14
Pinky shrieked in excitement and ran to Geet's room after hearing the news that Geet had agreed to marry Maan. Dadima walked up to her grandson and gave him a hug and said, "I told you everything would be alright."
Pinky's dad shook Maan's hand and congratulated him. "I hope that you will take care of Geet very well.", he said.
"Of course Uncleji.", Maan replied with a soft smile.
"Okay then, lets have some sweets to celebrate.", Pinky's dad went into the kitchen to bring some sweets.
Geet came out to the living room. Maan and Geet touched Dadima and Uncleji's feet for their blessing.
"Geet, you have no idea how happy I am to have you as my bahu.", Dadima said in exhilaration.
Geet smiled weakly. She wasn't sure how she was feeling about all this. Was she really going to be Mrs. Maan Singh Khurana? The prospect scared her. But despite everything that happened the past few days, she finally saw a light in her path.
They all sat in the living room discussing the wedding plans. "I think the wedding should be next week Friday.", Dadima declared.
"Next Friday? But that's too soon. How will we prepare for a wedding in such a short period of time?", Uncleji asked in trepidation.
Geet began to panic. She didn't expect the wedding to be so soon. If the wedding was next Friday, that meant there was exactly one week left.
"Don't worry about the preparations. I have a full staff to do everything. Also I have a lot of contacts that can help speed things up.", Dadi explained.
"Why don't we do it a few months later?", uncleji said.
"We'll I was thinking that it would be better to get the wedding over with before the baby's arrival. Not only that I want my bahu home already."
"Well if your sure that everything can be arranged on time than I have no problem.", Uncleji decided.
At this point Geet wanted to say something, "Uncleji, Dadima, I don't want too many people at the wedding."
Dadima frowned, she wanted to invite everyone she knew to her favorite grandsons wedding. In fact she wanted to go all out with the wedding plans. Maan already knew what Dadima was thinking.
He replied to Geet, "Geet, you don't have to worry about that, it will only be some close family and friends."
"Maan, I want everyone to come…", Dadima began to argue, but then stopped at the glare Maan gave her.
Geet let out a sigh of relief. She felt really intimidated of the entire ordeal. Her becoming Maan's wife freighted her, and making the wedding a big affair would only make her more nervous.
Maan could see that Geet was nervous. He wanted to whisk her away right then and there so they could be alone. She would finally be his wife. He didn't know why he fought with himself for so long over how he felt about Geet. She felt like the most perfect women in the world. Yes, she was still crazy and would drive him crazy too, but she was the one person in his empty life that filled it with happiness. He wanted the wedding to be here already.
"Is it alright for Maan to take Geet shopping for the wedding tomorrow? I think we should begin the preparations starting tomorrow", Dadima asked Uncleji.
"Yes, as long as Geet is up to it.", He said looking at Geet.
"Uhhh…Do I have to go?", Geet asked.
"Well beta, I want you to choose all your things.", Dadima explained.
"It doesn't really matter to me."
"But I'm sure you and Maan want to spend time together. Shopping will give you guys some time to talk before the wedding.", Dadima said with a sly smile.
Geet blushed furiously, while Maan gave his grandmother a irritated look. Pinky giggled and answered for Geet, "Geet you need to get out of the house. I think you should go"
"Then it's settled, Maan will pick you up tomorrow morning.", Dadima declared.
They continued discussing the wedding details. Maan was becoming bored already. He didn't care how the wedding happened as long as he ended up marrying Geet. Anyways, he really wanted to be alone with Geet. Geet was actually very quiet, which irked him a little since she was usually a talking machine. But while his grandmother and the rest of them kept talking, he kept stealing glances at Geet. Then a few minutes later Dadima decided it was time to go.
"Manchanda ji, I will discuss the rest of the wedding details tomorrow with you. I'll also send a few staff members to help you here. Just let me know when you need them.", Savitri Devi told Pinky's dad.
"Thank you, I will.", uncleji replied.
As soon as Savitri Devi got home she began making phone calls to arrange the wedding. Maan shook his head at this, "Dadima, why don't you relax. Won't your heat rate go up now?", Maan said mockingly.
Dadima rolled her eyes, "Don't try to get smart with me. Your finally getting married, so all my sickness will be gone. Now I don't have to worry about you."
"I'm a grown man, you didn't have to worry about me to begin with.", Maan said in exasperation.
"Oh yes I do, I thought you would never find a wife with that attitude of yours.", Dadi said trying to annoy him.
"I only have this attitude because the women in my life drive me mad.", He said glaring at her.
Dadima shook her head and walked away blabbering to the staff about the preparations that needed to be done for the wedding. It seemed like the whole house was already buzzing with wedding arrangements. Maan decided to go to bed early, because he could not wait for morning to come when he would be able to see his Geet.
Geet lay awake most of the night thinking of the prospect of getting married. She didn't know why she felt so nervous. This wasn't her first time getting married. But the first time she was traumatized and she didn't know what hit her. This time she would be marrying Maan. This time it was her choice. What really scared her was that she would be with Maan all day and night. Every time he was near her, she felt a tingling in her stomach. She remembered their kiss. The thought made her go red. Then there was tomorrow, where she would spend her whole day with Maan. "Hai rabba, kaal main aur Maan akela, babaji, meri raksha karana.", Geet said to herself.
Finally the morning arrived. Maan quickly did his exercise routine and took a shower. Then he went to the mansion to check on Dadima. He was afraid she would have already invited all of Delhi to the wedding. When he saw her, she was on the phone talking to the decorators. "Dadima, I'm warning you, you can't invite that many people to the wedding. Geet doesn't want too many guest", Maan told her.
She rolled her eyes, "haan, haan, I won't. Abhi tak shadi bhi nahi hui, aur biwi ki baat pheli si hi maana shuro kardi to shadi ki baad kya hoga?", Dadima said mocking him.
Maan gave her a fierce glare and said, "Are you done talking all this nonsense? If so I'm going to pick Geet up. Give me the list of things that we need to buy."
"Oh don't be silly. I'm not going to make you do things for your own wedding. The shopping was an excuse for you to spend time with Geet. I'm doing the shopping myself.", Dadima said with a enormous grin.
"What? How can you do that? Now Geet will yell at me! And what if her uncle found out?"
"Don't you want to spend time with Geet?"
"Yes, but…", Maan began to answer, but was interrupted by Dadima.
"Then you can take a bit of her yelling. You don't have to worry about her uncle, I already told him about this. Now be quiet and just go." .
When he was about to leave she stopped him. "Maan I want to talk to you about moving back here form the out house before you go. I think since you are getting married now, it's time for you to come back to the house."
"Dadima, we've already had this conversation. I'm not moving back.", he told her and walked out.
Savitri Devi wasn't going to let him get away that easy. She would ask Geet to make him come back home. She knew Geet would be able to do it.
Maan arrived at Geet's house. He ringed the door bell and Pinky greeted him. "Good morning sir! Come in, Geet's almost done getting ready."
Maan waited for Geet. Five minuets later she came to the living room dressed in a white salwar kameez. Maan stared at her for a moment too long. She always looked gorgeous in white. He cleared his throat and said, "Ready to go?"
"Uh…yes.", She replied nervously. As they left Pinky gave Geet a wink while Maan walked ahead of her.
When they were finally in the car there was a moment of silence. Maan asked, "Geet why are you so quiet?"
"Oh its nothing. So, where are we going?", She asked trying to ease the awkwardness.
"Well…we're not really going shopping.", Maan said.
"What do you mean?", Geet asked confused.
"Before you blow up on me, just listen. Dadima sort of made a plan for you and me to spend the day together. So she made up the shopping thing.", Maan informed her.
"What?! How can you let this happen?", Geet yelled
"I didn't let anything happen. I only found out before coming to pick you up.", Maan said trying to stay calm.
"I don't want to go anywhere. Besides you'll probably just end up yelling at me sometime or another and I don't want to deal with it."
"Oh yeah, I'm hard to deal with, but it's a breeze to be in your company right? Ms. Hoshiarpur Express", Maan exclaimed.
"Don't you dare call me that!", Geet said pointing a finger at him.
"And what if I don't, what will you do? Ms. Hoshiarpur Express", He said pulling her hand and bringing her closer to him.
Their faces were too close. They stared into each others eyes for a moment. Then to Geet's surprise he gave her a soft kiss on her lips. Despite him being so harsh and cold, Maan's lips were so gentle. Geet lost complete sense of herself at the touch of his lips, and kissed him back. Then realizing what she was doing, she backed away.
She glared at him and said, "Stop kissing me!"
"Why? You seemed to have enjoyed it.", Maan said with a arrogant smile.
"No I didn't! Your crossing your limits. I'm serious, if you ever do that again I'm calling off the wedding.", Geet yelled.
"Fine! I won't. It's not like you didn't kiss me back."
"That's because I was confused.", Geet said trying to make excuses.
"What's there to be confused about? You know what, what ever. You women don't know what you want.", Maan said.
"There we go with again with the women thing.", Geet said rolling her eyes. Maan gave her a annoyed look and didn't say anything.
They both sat in the car fuming. Then all of a sudden Maan started the car and drove away with a enraged Geet in tow.
