Part 13
What in the world was Maan thinking, coming to her house like that? She wanted to wipe that smug smile off of his lips. Oh how he infuriated her right now.
Pinky's dad looked at Savitri Devi in astonishment, "I'm sorry, did you just ask me for Geet's hand in marriage to your grandson?", He wanted to confirm that he had heard her right.
"Yes indeed. My grandson here, really likes Geet a lot. I think he is a very good match for her. What do you say?", Savitri Devi said.
He thought about it for a minute. "Well, I think the decision is in Geet's hands. She is like my daughter, but I can't tell her who to marry.", He said nervously.
"Thank you uncleji.", Geet said coming into the conversation. She turned to Savitri Devi and said, "Ma'am I don't want to be rude, but my answer is, no.", She gave Maan a triumphant look. He flared his nostrils.
"Geet beta, please think about this a little. Maan is…"
"No ma'am I have thought about it, that's my final decision. Now if you will excuse me, I have something important to do.", she stormed off to her room.
Maan stared after her. He knew this wasn't going to be easy. But he didn't care. All he knew was that he loved Geet and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
"I hope you understand why Geet won't agree to this. Her life isn't exactly like every other girls. Also all the things that happened with your other grandson doesn't make this easy on her", Pinky's dad explained.
"I know. But she needs to move on. Dev is in jail now. She can live her life. I know this will be hard for her but Maan loves her and I think she loves him too. Though she won't admit it.", Savitri Devi informed him.
Pinky gave her point of view on this, "Yes ma'am I think she does too.", she said with a big smile. Maan smiled at himself after hearing this.
"Maybe you are right, but how will you get her to agree?", Pinky's father inquired.
"If you mind uncleji, can I please talk to her?", Maan said abruptly.
At first he was hesitant, then he gave Maan permission to talk to Geet. Maan walked into Geet's room. She was sitting in a small sofa by the window and was intently gazing outside. "Geet", Maan called.
She looked up, "You still didn't leave? Just go away.", She said in frustration.
He went inside the room and sat down beside her. "Geet, you need to hear me out."
"No I don't. What part of stay away from me don't you get?", She said getting angry.
"I'm not going to let you punish me for something I didn't do. I don't deserve that Geet. I think our relationship means more than that.", Maan said calmly.
"What relationship? We don't have a relationship!", Geet told him. Her voice was rising.
"Tell me why you won't marry me?", Maan asked ignoring her question.
"Tell me why I should marry you?", Geet said avoiding his question.
"Because I believe that we were meant to be. Because when we're together we're happy, because I love you, because you love me…"
"I don't love you!", Geet said with ferocity.
"Okay fine, you don't. But Geet think about it. When we are together we feel like that's how it's supposed to be, but when we are a part something feels missing. You know you feel it too.", Maan said still composing himself.
"No I don't", She said without looking at him. She remembered the past two days and how restless they were, and knew he was right.
"Think about your baby. Do want the baby to grow up without a father?", Maan tried to argue a different angle.
"My baby doesn't need a father. She has her mother.", Geet replied.
"She? The baby's a girl?", Maan asked going off topic.
"No, I don't really now yet, but I feel like it's a girl.", Geet told him and her expression became a little brighter. Then she became quiet.
"A girl would be nice, but I want a son, who could grow up to be like me.", Maan said without thinking. He just realized that he had accepted Geet's baby as his own since the day he found out about it.
Geet looked at him in awe. "Your not the father Maan.", Geet said but regretted it instantly when she saw Maan's face fall.
"I know, but I want to be. It doesn't matter to me that I'm not the biological father. Geet, I want to be there for you and your baby.", Maan said softly.
"Why? Because you want to make up for your brother's mistake? Or because you pity the girl whose life he ruined.", Geet said as her eyes filled with moisture.
"No because I love you. How many times do I have to tell you that? Geet don't you get it? I'm selfish. I want you for myself because I love you and I can't live without you." Maan clarified.
Geet began to cry forcefully. She hated it when he did this to her. He made her fell guilty now. Maan seeing the tears in her eyes, wrapped his arms around her. At that moment, Geet realized how much she needed him. It felt like all her sorrows had disappeared. It felt just right to be in his embrace. She didn't know if she loved him but she knew that it was Maan, who filled a void in her life that no one else could. So she made up her mind, she was going to be selfish too.
She unwrapped herself form his arms and said, "Yes."
Maan furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and asked, "Yes what?"
"Yes I will marry you.", Geet responded.
Maan stared at Geet for a moment, unable to believe what he had just heard. "Really?", he asked.
"Do I have to keep repeating myself? I said Yes."
Maan's face lit up in a big smile. She had never seen him smile like that before. The smile on his face made her feel better. She gave him a slight grin. He whipped the tears off of her face, and she closed her eyes with his touch.
"I promise I'll always be there for you.", as he said this he kissed her on the forehead.
While Geet and Maan talked in her room. Pinky's dad was a bit concerned for Geet. He wasn't sure if it was a good idea for Geet to marry Maan. He wanted to make sure that she was happy. He expressed his concerns to Savitri Devi. She told him not to worry.
"I understand how you feel, but Maan really loves Geet and he will keep her happy. I have complete faith in him. Maan has a good heart.", She told him.
"But I worry about her, because of her situation."
"Maan will accept Geet's baby as his. He already has. Please don't worry. Maan and Geet are perfect for each other. After many years my grandson has finally found his happiness. I couldn't stand to let it get away once again, if he lost Geet. That is why I am here today.", Savitri Devi said with grief in her eyes.
Pinky's dad finally relaxed a little. They sat talking more about Maan and Geet. Savitri Devi apologized over and over again for what Dev did.
Back in Geet's room, she wanted to clarify something with Maan, "Maan I can't say that I love you, because I don't know if I do. I also don't know if I ever will. I don't want to bind you to anything that you'll regret, so I'm telling you this now."
Maan didn't need to think twice about this. He knew that Geet would love him as much as he loved her one day. He would wait for that day. Until then he wanted her by his side. "Geet I know what I'm doing. Its enough for me to just have you by my side for now. And don't worry you will love me someday.", He said with a sneaky smile.
Geet was about to argue with him, but Maan interrupted her and said he should go out and talk to Dadima and Uncleji and that they were waiting for a while.
"Fine, but before you go, I have one condition that you have to meet in order to marry me.", Geet old him.
Maan became anxious, "What's your condition?"
"You have to let me work after we're married.", Geet said.
"What? Your pregnant! I don't want you working so you an risk your health.", he bellowed.
"I'm pregnant, not disabled. There's no law saying pregnant women can't work.", Geet countered.
"I'm not going to agree to this.", Maan told her.
"Maan, my independence is important to me. The reason I came to Delhi is to gain my freedom. If you can't respect that then I can't marry you.", She said assertively.
Maan clenched his jaw and let out a deep breath. This girl was going to drive him crazy. "Alright you can work, but your working at Khurana Constructions. Agreed?"
"Agreed.", Geet said with an aura of success.
Maan stepped out of Geet's room. Savitri Devi began questioning him instantly, "What happened Maan? Did she say yes?". She became impatient as Maan hid his emotions well.
Then to her surprise Maan's expression brightened up, "Yes she did.", he said victoriously.
Every single face in the room lit up with a big smile.
