Behzaad Khan aka Brij of Geet – Hui Sabse Parayi on STAR One, is the latest bad boy of television. The actor plays a ruthless character who hardly puts his emotions at display. A doting brother he is, but would never let those kind words slip out of his mouth. He is there to take care of his sister and protect her from the bad world but in his own stern and rigid way. |
In real life, Behzaad is unlike Brij. He is a well-groomed guy who respects women and likes all the attention from the fairer sex. All those of you who are scared of him after watching his cold-blooded act on the show, must know that he is calm and composed in real life.
The actor shares his experience on the show so far and the response he is getting from the fans of the show…
How do you take Geet - Hui Sabse Parayi as your come-back show in the television industry?
It feels fantastic to be a part of Geet - Hui Sabse Parayi. This is a nice team and great concept to work on. The character of Brij is quite challenging and tough to portray and I am trying my best to keep up to the expectation of the viewers.
What kept you away from the arch lights?
I debuted with Doordarshan's Hawayein as the main lead, then show which was later followed by Balaji Telefilms' Khwaish. After that I took a two year break to pursue theater and sharpen my acting skills. I was also involved with Infinity Films as an actor, director and creative which consumed all my time. Somehow the film projects didn't take off and more so the television offers pouring in weren't too challenging and interesting until Brij happened to me.
How similar or dissimilar are you to the character of Brij?
I am not at all like Brij in real life. Brij is a fanatic, extremist and a strong fundamentalist. Behzaad is a calm and composed guy who will not go to the extent of murdering someone. I can't even think of slapping anybody. I love to live in my own territory and love my space. I am a hassle-free guy in real life.
Have you gone out of your way to get something done as per your wish, in real?
Not exactly or let's say not anymore. As a kid I was definitely stubborn and would go out of my way to get things done.
The brats of the industry surprisingly end up getting unexpected attention from the fairer sex. How has it been for you?
Honestly, I haven't got the time to enjoy the attention. My fans tell me that they are really scared of me and so I don't think I can be popular amongst the female fans. I wish they get a chance to see the real me to like me.
You play a cold-blooded murderer on the show on one hand and on the other a doting brother but can't express the same? Isn't it quite a contrast and how do you manage to play the variations?
This is an interesting question. As an actor the character is definitely challenging but I have trained myself accordingly. Once I am in that mode dressed as Brij, I behave like him. I am no longer Behzaad then. Brij has lived all his life like this and is very rigid. He believes that he has to guard the norms and values of his family. He is an over-protective brother and son of the family.
Were you apprehensive about playing such strong and negative character?
Not exactly. Brij is an extremely interesting character. When I was called for the look test and audition for this character and the moment I read out the first few lines, I instantly realized that this is going to be an interesting and tough role to portray.
What kind of response are you receiving from the viewers?
They really hate me which in itself is a compliment as this means I am doing my job well. People are getting what they expect from Brij. My character is associated with creating high tension and drama on the show and I am enjoying the phase. Though essaying such a character sometimes takes a toll as I am completely drained out once I am done with my shot. The character and the scene are alive with me for a few minutes even after the camera is shut. Brij is a strong character as it is shown furious all the time. With this character, I have got a chance to explore the actor in me.
Brij is an over-protective brother and at times hurts his sister's sentiments inadvertently. What do you have to say about it? How do you justify his stand?
Brij has been brought up in certain way where he believes that he is the one who has to protect his family. He is of the opinion that girls shouldn't go out and aren't supposed to be educated; such is the foundation for this character. I think Brij has been moulded like this ever since he was a kid and so has been thinking accordingly.
How will your character evolve on the show? Will you have a change of heart and will warm towards your family?
I really don't know what turn my character will take on the show.
What changes would you like to see in Brij?
After playing a hardcore fanatic and an extremist, I wish my character undergoes some sort of transformation. Probably, I would want my character to grow a little softer and expressive.
What do you have to say about such marriages that take place and the grooms leave their brides behind? Where according to you do we falter?
Such things should be stopped and eradicated completely from the society. Conservative or open family, one must approach the law of the country when they come across or face such an untoward incident. I will term it as an anti-social and criminal act. People out of greed get their daughters married to NRIs without investigating about them and their families.
Are you a family person?
I am very much a family person and I am closest to my mother. Mine is a big family and we are seven siblings, three brothers and four sisters.
Are you an over-protective and stern brother to them or caring?
No, I am a super cool brother to my sisters.
As seen in the current track, Brij wants Geet to abort her child and gets home a doctor. Geet however doesn't want to terminate the pregnancy and requests the family to pay heed to her pleas. Brij however forces her to have sleeping pills. The doctor refuses to abort the child after hearing Geet but Brij threatens her to do what she has been called for. Here Maan (Gurmeet Chaudhary) has developed a liking for Geet and is unable to get her out of his mind.
