Hello all you lovely Gangaa fans.
It's been a long time since I was here last, on this site, and that's because for the last many months, I was totally cut off from TV shows. Last time I watched a show with any sort of regularity was when I was watching Kunal-Siddhi in Parichay & then Mrityunjay-Tara in Ek Boond Ishq.
Gangaa I was always aware of, and have watched many pre-leap episodes too, for the sole reason that I found kid Gangaa really cute. So when I saw the first promo of a grown up Gangaa, and grown up Gangaa & Sagar looked promising in that promo, I decided to watch Gangaa regularly from there on.
And truth be told, both Aditi Sharma & Vishal are not only very fine actors, together as Gangaa-Sagar, they sparkle on screen. I hope the makers of the show realise they have got a great onscreen pair here with Aditi-Vishal as Gangaa-Sagar, and through all the twists & turns of a daily soap, they keep the focus firmly on the lead pair, because these two are the only ones worth watching in this show.
Of course, the show is not at all easy to watch coz the rest of the characters are very annoying. Madhavi is a psycho who for some unknown reason remains obsessed with getting Sagar married at the earliest. Also not clear to me is why she hates Gangaa so much. I mean, if she is in such a tearing hurry to get Sagar married somehow and wants a perfect daughter-in-law for her house, Gangaa should have been her first and most logical choice. Yet she can't stand Gangaa getting anywhere near Sagar. Inexplicable.
Also, since I have seen very few pre-leap episodes, so I'm not sure about it, but I think Pulkit is the adopted son of Madhavi or something like that, because his situation in that household is, well, bizarre. He got married just yesterday or so, after all that Saloni drama, is not well right now, and her mother is already going full steam on her life mission of getting her other son married, seemingly oblivious to this newly-married couple Pulkit-Supriya. In fact, Madhavi comes across so fixated with this whole marriage business that I suspect, given half a chance, she'll get married a second time herself.
Old Ammaji is no better. For someone shown to be sooo monumentally steeped in rituals and traditions, one would expect that a boy putting sindoor on a girl's forehead will have great significance for that Ammaji. Now from what I gather, Ammaji witnessed Sagar putting sindoor on Gangaa's forehead when they were kids. As far as the significance & symbolism of that act goes for an old school mind, a traditionalist Ammaji should have considered Gangaa wife of her grandson Sagar from that moment onwards. Okay agreed, Gangaa-Sagar have not gone through the entire Vedic Vivaah ceremony yet, but that act symbolises Gangaa-Sagar getting married, and traditionalist Amaaji should have been the first one to reach that conclusion. Yet, everytime she talks to Gangaa, she makes it a point to call her a widow. This is strange, to say the least.
Then there's Jhaanvi. Jhaanvi the character is doing what the vamp of a daily soap is expected to do, so no problem there. However the problem lies elsewhere. And I know that the fans of the actress playing Jhaanvi will wish me dead for this, but the actress can't act. There's no other way of putting it, she can't act. My apologies to all her fans but that's it. The only likeable thing about her are the dresses she wears, not the ones Madhavi keeps gifting her, but the ones she wears on her own accord. My favourite one remains the one she was wearing in the episode where Gangaa slapped Sagar & ran out of the house and Jhaanvi tried to catch Sagar.
Which brings me to Sagar. As I said before, Vishal comes across as a very fine actor, but right now, his character Sagar is more exasperating than all the Madhavis & Jhaanvis & Ammajis of the world put together. Why Sagar has to be shown so so so dumb, I don't know. Even a stone can tell that Sagar is equally in love with Gangaa, just as Gangaa is in love with him. Yet this young, supposedly intelligent lawyer keeps shouting stupid inanities like "I love you as a friend" with frightening regularity!! Ridiculous.
Which finally leaves me with Gangaa, the saving grace of the show, helped no doubt by the fact that Aditi Sharma is giving a top-notch performance as Gangaa, so more power to her. And here's sincerely hoping that makers too are clear in their mind that in Gangaa-Sagar, they have got a matchless pair, and so they keep the focus firmly on the love story of this superlative couple.
