*Part Three*
Ridhima sat in her room remembering those good ol' days she used to spend with her best friends. She remembered how almost every weekend her, Sapna, and Prachi used to go out to the mall just to hang out or go to the movies. While remembering those days she finally managed to fall asleep.
Sapna sat in the living room holding onto her phone thinking whether she should do it or not.
"Should I call her? I know I have to do it, it's the right thing to do. But what will I say, how will I explain it to her. She needs to know, Ridz needs her the most right now. Alright, I guess I'll call her."
But before making the call she went to go check and see if Ridz is okay. "Okay good soyi hai."
She started to dial wondering if she was awake or not. The phone was ringing...soon someone answered, "Hello?"
"Hello, Anjali di? it's Sapna"
"Arre Sapna, what a pleasant suprise, itni subhe subhe?"
Sapna thinking, "subhe? Oh yea Anji di lives in Bombay now, duhh" "Yeah di, woh actually kuch zaroori baat karni thi"
"Accha toh bolo, aur Ridz kahaan hai? us se bhi baat karao."
"Uhh actually di, maine Ridz ke baare mein hi phone kiya hai."
Hearing Sapna's worried voice, Anjali was getting tensed, "kya hua Ridz ko? Is she okay? You sound worried, is everything alright? Don't you guys have graduation in two days?"
"Yea di we do, and well Ridz..."
Anjali got extremely worried, "Kya hua meri Ridz ko?"
Sapna didn't know where to begin as Anjali was getting impatient, "Bolo Sapna, why aren't you saying anything?"
"Woh actually umm..." So Sapna started with Yash and Prachi and then told Anjali about everything that happend today.
"OMG Sapna! Tumne pehle kuyn nahi bataya?"
"I would have, but all of this just happened today, Ridz needs you di."
"I guess, but what should we do now?"
"I don't know, she really needs someone and I won't be able to stay with her. I'm going go visit Amit's family in California after graduation and I'll be there for an entire month. I can take her with me but, I think she'll feel alone and probably won't even come."
"Yea Sapna you go and have fun with Amit and his family. I'll take care of Ridz."
"So are you coming here then?"
"Nope, I can't, but she can. She really needs to get out of Houston, she's been living there for too long. Use India aaye hue saat saal ho gaye hai."
"Yea di! Thats perfect! But do you think she will agree?"
"Don't worry I will convince her somehow."
"Yea, I hope she agrees. But di, there are still some problems."
"What problems?"
"Well Prachi still doesn't know about the whole situation and what are we going to tell Ridhima's parents?"
"Hmm...well I think I'll talk to Ridz's mom and dad so don't worry about them. But Prachi, I think you should just let it be, don't interfere just let fate play its game. Just try to keep Ridz cheered up."
"Okay di, you're right. I'll try my best to keep Ridz happy. Oh and one more thing, when are you going to tell Ridz?"
"Well I was thinking on the day of your graduation when I call her to congratulate her, if I call her tomorrow she might not like it. And I don't think we should tell her that I know about this, it's better if she tells me herself."
"Yeah that sounds good. Okay di, mein chalti hoon, thanks di!"
"No problem, and take care, bye."
"Bye," Sapna hung up the phone and went to her room to get some peace after a terribly long night.
Graduation Day:
"Ridz please just listen to me once!" said Prachi desperate to get thru to Ridhima.
"No Prachi, I don't wanna hear it! Just leave me alone okay!"exclaimed Ridhima.
"But Ridz, atleast let me explain!"
"No I don't want to hear any explanations! Just go away! I don't want to ruin one of the best days of my life okay just leave me alone!" Ridz was getting frustrated but trying really hard to keep calm.
Prachi had been trying to get in touch with Ridhima for the past couple of days, but Ridhima was too angry to talk to Prachi.
"Prachi, Ridz is right don't ruin this special day for all of us." Said Sapna.
"Butā¦"
"No Prachi, she needs time, time will heal everything. Try talking to her after the ceremony."
"Alrightā¦"
Today is the day Ridhima has been waiting for. Today she will find out where she'll be doing her residency.
"Okay now that everyone has received their envelope. Do not open it yet! When I count to three you can open it," the Dean's voice blared on the mike.
"Okay readyā¦1ā¦.2ā¦and 3! Tear those envelopes open!"
Ridhima's hands were shaking frantically as she opened her envelope. On the envelope was written:
Dear Ms. Ridhima Gupta,
You have been selected to complete your residency at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston Txā¦.
Ridhima did not even care about what was written after that sentence. She jumped up with joy estatic that she got into where she always dreamed of working. Texas Children's is the number one facility for Pediatric care. Ridhima has always wanted to be a Paediatrician as she loves kids. She ran and hugged her parents forgetting all her troubles and worries.
"Mumma guess what I got in!!!" said Ridhima jumping with joy.
Tears were streaming down Padma's face as she watched the happiness on her daughter's face, while Ridhima was jumping up and down hugging her father.
"Ridz!!!!!" yelped Sapna as she ran to Ridhima. "Guess what? I got into Memorial Herman"
"Yayyyy!!! And guess what? I got into Texas Children's"
"OMG!" yelled Sapna so happy to see her best friend genuinely happy after so many days.
"Ridhima! Sapna!" yelled Prachi, "guess what?? I got into BenTaub!!!"
"OMG!!!" yelled Sapna and Ridhima and hugged Prachi together. The three of them were so excited they forgot all the conflicts in between them. But just then Ridhima realized what she was doing and pulled out of the hug, "that's great Prachi, I'm happy for you. Let's go Mom and Dad," and she left from there leaving Prachi with tears in her eyes.
"For that moment I was hoping she would forget everything Sapna" said Prachi.
"Yeah, me too, but she needs time you know that. Just give her a little time, she'll forgive you. You know she can't be mad at you forever."
"Yeah I know, but I'm scared."
"Don't worry Prachi, everything will be alright."
At Ridhima's apartment:
"So Ridhima, ab holidays mein kya karna hai?" asked Padma.
"Umm I don't knowā¦I was thinking-" but just then she heard some loud music, "When the sun shines we'll shine together told you I'll be here forever said I'll always be your friend take a note I'll stick it out to the end now that its rainin more than ever just know that we'll still have each other you can stand under my umbrella you can stand under my umbrella ella ella ay ay ayā¦" It was her cell phone and when she saw the number she shrieked with joy.
"OMG Mumma! Its Anjali Di! Hello di!"
"Congrats Ridz!" said Anjali getting happy hearing how excited Ridhima was.
"Thanks di! And guess what? I got into Texas Children's!!!"
"OMG! That's wonderful! So what are your plans for the summer?"
"Haha, Mom and Dad were just asking that and you called me. Well, I was thinking I would do a summer internship here at school. "Said Ridhima.
"Chachu and chachi are there? Give the phone to them later. And I was thinking you could come to India for the summer and get a break from all that work?"
"Umm I don't know di. What am I going to do in India? Everyone will be at work and then I'll be all alone."
"Well then why don't you do the summer research program here at Sanjeevani?"
"Yeah, but I don't think I have enough money in my savings to come."
"The research program pays you, so how about we do this, I send you the tickets and then when you make enough money you can pay me back?"
"Ummā¦I don't know."
"Come on Ridz I haven't seen you in ages, you haven't come to India in seven years. And I have a really big surprise for you also"
"Oo a surprise!! I don't know di-"
"No more of your 'I don't knows' you're coming and that's final, now give the phone to your dad and let me talk to your parents."
Ridhima knew then she had lost the battle with Anjali. She handed the phone over to her dad. Ridhima knew Anjali would convince her parents as her parents have wanted her to get out of Houston for once.
At the airport:
"Okay Ridz see you later and have fun. Ooh yeah what time is your flight landing in Mumbai?" asked Amit.
"Around 6:30 Friday morning and thanks Amit, thanks for everything, you guys went thru so much trouble for me," said Ridhima. Amit and Sapna helped Ridhima move all her stuff to her parent's house before going to India.
"Aah Ridz please, what are friends for." Amit knew he said the wrong words, just then they heard someone yell Ridhima's name.
"RIDHIMA!" They turned around to see Prachi running towards them. "Ridhima please wait!"
"No Prachi, why are you here? I have to go its time for my flight."
"No its not, you still have an hour till you board the plane. Please Ridz we really need to talk. More like I need to explain myself. I won't be able to live knowing we still haven't talked."
"Fine! What do you want to say?" asked Ridz anger showing clearly on her face.
"Hey guys, can I please talk to Ridz alone?" asked Prachi
"Alrite, bye Ridz and take care and call me when you get to Bombay," said Sapna.
Ridhima hugged Sapna and after they left she got ready to face Prachi.
"Lets go sit and talk?" asked Prachi.
"Okay"
"I'm sorry Ridz, I'm really sorry. I should have told you before I know but I didn't know how to face you. Ridz are you listening?"
"Yea, go on" said Ridz looking past Prachi listening intently.
"You know my Papa, you know how stubborn he is, there was no way out for me, for the both of us. And I don't know what happened, but I fell in love with him. I know you hate me for this right now, but I had no control over my heart. I don't know what happens to me whenever I see him. It's like I'm in a totally different world," said Prachi smiling thinking about her love, "I feel like myself with him, and it just feels so right. I feel all tingly when he is close to me. I know you love him too, and I will happily give him up just for you but, I want you to think, did you ever feel that way when you were with him? Did he take you to an unknown world? Did he take you to a parallel universe? Were you yourself when you were with him? Did you ever feel tingly or weird sensations when he was around you? Think about it Ridz-"
"Flight 757 now boarding to Mumbai, India."
"Oh looks like your flight is early. I guess you have to go," she turned Ridz face towards her and told her, "I really hope you think about what I said, and I really hope you can forgive me and Yash for what we did."
"Hmmā¦well you are right, and I have already forgiven you but it will take a while for me to forgive Yash, it's just hard to forget, you know that. Now that I know how much you love him, I hope the both of you are truly happy. You know the saying 'all is fair in love and war'" Said Ridhima smiling at her best friend.
"Really?" asked Prachi as Ridz nodded her head. "Oh thank you Ridz! I love you!" she said embracing Ridz and Ridz happily hugged her friend back. "Now go before you miss your flight and get stuck here."
"Okay, byeā¦" said Ridz waving at Prachi.
"Bye, and take care, and call me" winked Prachi as Ridz left boarding her flight to Mumbai.
As Ridhima sat in the plane she started thinking about all the things Prachi said to her. "I never felt that way around Yash, is that how love is? So what was it that I was feeling...I'm lost..."
"Hi ma'm what would you like to drink?" asked the air hostess
"Umm some orange juice please with ice."
"No problem and if you would like to watch a movie thenā¦."
"Okay thank you." Said Ridhima
"You're welcome, if you need anything else just press the button," with that the air hostess left attending the next passenger.
"Oh godā¦ I'm tired of thinking about the past week, I don't want to think about it anymore, hmmā¦what should I do?" thought Ridhima sick of reliving those sour moments. "Oo I guess I'll watch a movie then. Hmmā¦lets see what movies they haveā¦KANK, no wayā¦.Tare Zameen Par, to emotionalā¦something good, let's seeā¦oo Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa, nice I'll watch this one."
Ridhima started watching the movie and her favorite song came on, the one that always cheers her up telling her there's a lot more happiness waiting for her out there. Little did Ridhima know, Mumbai would change her entire lifeā¦
