After dinner was over and the table was cleared, Armaan receded back to his room, wondering how his mother had found out about him and Riddhima... It had to be Atul, who else would tell his mother. That little brat of a brother! Slow torture would fix him up and teach him how to keep his big trap shut. Maybe he should wring his brother's neck? No, that was quick torture... Aha! An evil master plan developed in his brain. His brother would never open his mouth after this! Armaan grinned evilly.
At Safwan's house:
As soon as he stepped out of the shower, his mother seemed to materialize out of no where in front of him, holding ten sherwanis. "Acha, bolo... kaunsa pehenna hai? Yeh blue wala.. ya lal wala, ya peela wala, ya harya wala, ya..." she breathed deeply. "Jaldi bolo! Time nahi hai, shaadi ek haafte mein hai!"
"Ughh... jo bhi, shaadi ki theme kya hai?" He asked lazily.
"Shaadi ki theme... blue hai, mere khayal se..."
"Okay, phir blue, ok Ammi jaaaaaaan? Ab aap muhje jaane degi?"
His mother gave him a Did-I-Do-Something-Wrong? look. He brushed passed her into his room do get an ounce peace from the hyper environment in his home. But as soon as he entered his room, he found his neice in there, of course, to tease him, like everyone else... It seemed as though everyone's motive was to annoy the hell out of him. Before she spotted him, he ran away to the balcony. He wasn't in the mood to be around anyone.
At Riddhima's house:
Padma was extremely eager for her daughter to express her love for Armaan to her, but it seemed as though she was too shy, maybe? She had told Aarzoo, why not her own mother? She paced left and right in the hallway trying to come up with a conclusion.
"Padma?" Shashank had just entered the hallway, in order to get to his room, only to find his wife pacing here and there like pagal. "Kya hua?"
"Huhh? Uh, kuch nahi? Bas aise hi bechaini horai thi.. toh.. uhh, tum yaha... sone ja rai ho? Acha, good night," she resumed pacing.
"Padma, problem kya hai? Main tuhme achi tara se jaanta hoon! Jabhi bhi pareshan hoti ho, toh idhar udhar phirti rehti ho..." Shashank said, getting impatient.
"Wohh... Aarzoo ne muhje bataya.. ke Armaan aur Riddhima ek doosre se pyaar karte, likin Riddhima muhje bata hi nahi rai hai!" She whined like a child.
"Padma, relax! Give her time, maybe she doesn't feel... secure to tell you? Let her tell you, usse compel maat karna, chalo ab sone chale, muhje bohot neend arai hai!" He yawned widely.
"Haan... chalo," she said, walking with her husband towards their room. "Likin main uski Maa hoon!!!"
"Relax, honey!"
Malaika's house:
She lay on her bed, admiring her navy blue sari which she was to wear at Huma's, or as they all called her: Hummus di, wedding. The golden beads shimmered slightly. The soft material rubbed against her cheeks. She thought about what Safwan said... that Ifru jiju was his COUSIN! Meaning he would be related to her. How awkward would that feel? For a moment, she stared at the wall, in a dreamy state. Her mind seemed to be out of the world.
"Malaika?" Huma entered her cousins room to find her smiling absent mindedly and staring at the blank white wall. "MALAIKA?" She picked up a pillow from the bed and chucked it at Malaika.
"HUMMUS! You messed up my hair!" Malaika yelled, patting her golden brown hair down. "Itni mehnat se banaya tha maine, aur..."
"Whatever, it was already messed up. Waise kya soch rahi thi tu?"
Malaika blushed. "Kuch nahi... bas aise hi..." She smiled.
"Bolo bolooo.... kuch to tha," said Hummus, shaking her brows.
"Kuchh nahii!!" She blushed harder and giggled.
"Bolooo, batau! Kamini! Meri shaadi horai hai.. chalo batao muhje, chalo!" Hummus started tickling Malaika till she had tears in her eyes from over laughing.
The soft humming of Riddhima's cell distrupted her tender sleep, but as soon as she saw Armaan's number on it, her sleep vanished.
"Bolo Armaan," she said, in a flat tone, but laughing on the insides.
"Suno Riddhima, aaj main tuhme pick up karne au?" He said, all excited.
"Kya? Ok sure!" she said, but then all of a sudden,"Nahi!" She said, exasperated. She heard someone outside her door and was sure it was her mother, who was eager to know about her and Armaan.
"Nahi?" Armaan asked, dazzled.
"Nahi... baad mein, bye," she said and hung up, feeling bad.
"Yeh Riddhima ko kya hogaya?" Armaan said angrily.
At the Hospital:
They all gathered around Armaan who was looking really angry. Riddhima felt sorry for having done what she had done.
"Dr. Malaika and Dr. Riddhima, duty in the Trauma Center, Dr. Sapna with Dr. Safwan, pathology Lab, and Dr. ATUL, rectal examinations, we have about five patients for that job!" Armaan said.
Atul was shocked at his brother. No him and Sapna? What in the heavens name was wrong with him? He was behaving like a sour tart from yesterday night ever since their mother had found out about his chakkar with Riddhima. He grunted silently. Everyone reported to their duties except Riddhima.
"Sholly..." said Riddhima, looking into his eyes, which were full of rage. As soon as he set eyes on her innocent face, all the anger flushed away.
"It's okay, sweetheart," he said, walking towards her. He leaned forward and gave her a kiss on the cheek, not caring who was watching. His mother knew now, what did he have to worry about? Leaving Riddhima wondering about what had just happened, she smiled and looked back at him.
...
"Dr. Malaika and Dr. Riddhima, report to Trauma Bay 5! Dr. Malaika and Dr. Riddhima, report to Trauma Bay 5!" screeched the nurse's voice.
"Ufff... bulawa agayaa..." Malaika and Riddhima left the commotion in the locker room and rushed to the ED.
"Hurry guyss!!" Dr. Shashank ordered. Him and Armaan were wearing their scrubs and ordering the nurses about. Armaan tossed two scrub coats at Riddhima. Both the girls quickly put them on.
"Accident case hai, X-ray, MRI, aur CT scans karna parega, Dr. Riddhima, get the machines ready!" Armaan told Riddhima. "Dr. Malaika, prepare the files!"
The doors of the ED opened up and five EMTs came in carrying a bloody mess. The bundle was followed by an old lady screaming hysterically.
"Maa ji, aap please, bahar wait karye," said Malaika softly.
"Nahii!! Mere bete..." she started crying. Malaika sighed.
"Maa ji, aap yahi behtye, hume problem find out karna hoga, phir uske mutabik surgery karni paregi..."
Meanwhile, Riddhima had prepared the CT scan. They wheeled the young man into the machine. Pressing buttons here and there, images appeared on the computer screen (a guess, I have no clue how this stuff works :P).
"A kidney is severely damaged, Dr. Armaan.. I think we'll have to remove it," said Shashank.
"Hmmm..." Armaan agreed as he studied the damaged beyond repair kidney.
The young man's mother, who had heard the doctor's conversation, rushed over to them. "KYA? Koi aur tareeka nahi hai aap log ke paas?! Mera beta ek kidney ke saath... Ya Allah! Yeh kaisi sazaa de rai ho tum? Kya guna kiya humne?!?!" She raised her hands up, crying.
"Malaika, please call Dr. Safwan here for the surgery, you take care of his mother, she looks like she might pass out any moment," Armaan ordered.
Malaika took his mother out while paging Safwan. She set the lady on the two seater outside the OT.
"Everything alright, Malaika?" Safwan said, catching his breath.
"Dr. Armaan called you for the surgery..."
"Oh okay," he said, and quickly walked into the OT.
An inconsolable mother was weeping on Malaika's shoulder. Malaika patted her back and soothed her.
"Beti, yeh kaisi saaza mill rai hai hume? Allah humse itni nafrat karte hain..." she said.
"Maa, Allah doesn't hate anyone... It's all a test. All the hardships, all the suffering... See, when we go through hard times, it's not because Allah hates us or is punishing us! It's either a wake up call from Him, to make us realize that he is here for us, to turn to him. We tend to turn to him only during times of difficulies, or when we have no other solution, in fact, it should be the other way around. First Allah, then others. Or perhaps He wants to forgive your sins, because everytime we go through pain, may it be the prick of a pin or a slight headache, our sins are forgiven... Be patient... ???????? 15; ??????? ???????? 16;???? ... Allah loves the patient. Turn to him at this time. He's always listening to you, and always remember that he loves you seventy times more than a mother. Aur aap bhi ek Maa hai, you'd understand.." she patted her shoulders and left, hoping her words had an affect on the old lady.
